“The Most Amazing Place To Stay”
Reviewed 30 April 2014

Lapa Rios was just amazing, providing the perfect combination of luxury with natural environment. Rooms are beautiful and everything you can think of is already there. Not once did my wife or I say "I just wish they had this". The natural rainforest is right at your door steps with wildlife at every turn. The tour guides are very experienced, specially Vallerie with her degree in rainforest biology and he keen eye for birds. We did six tours in five days, and they were all well organized. Our favorite was the plane ride into Concorda National Park then a 4 hour hike - just like Jurassic park. All this, and you get three culinary sit down delights in the main lodge, nestle in the secondary forest. Not just one or two selections, but a wide range, including vegetarian. The attention to detail is well received and their staff is well trained and always willing to stop hand talk, or show you some wildlife. Thanks to the entire staff on a great vacation.

Room Tip: All the rooms are the exact same layout, just depends on the bed types. We had a King bed, which wa...

Dear KiwisinUSA,
greetings from the rainforest of the Osa Peninsula. Thank you for writing such a great review of your stay with us. We really appreciate your comment about how you think that we are able to bring "luxury" to a very wild and natural environment - not always easy as you can imagine. We will pass your compliments of the guiding staff to Valerie and the other guides and will continue to work hard to provide our future guests with the best wildlife interpretation. Your comparison of the Corcovado Tour with a Jurrasic Park experience made us smile, but you are probably right... just no dinos. Thank you for pointing out the a la carte restaurant experience. This sets us apart from many other lodges and we are proud of the great reveiws that our local freshly prepared food is receiving. Thanks again and please come back soon.

Our experience at Lapa Rios was amazing. We were greeted at the airstrip by our driver. On our 30 minute ride to the lodge, he pointed out owls, macaws, capuchin monkeys and a coati! We were enchanted before we even entered the grounds. As soon as we arrived, we were given refreshing fruit drinks and swept into the beautiful main lodge. There, we ate our first of many wonderful meals and were told about all of the possible activities we could do during our stay. After lunch we headed down to our bungalow, which was beyond what we could have imagined. The view from our room was so beautiful. We could see the Pacific ocean and lots of rain forest. There was a nice deck with a hammock, an outdoor shower and some chairs. From that deck we saw lots of birds and even some squirrel monkeys during our stay. The scarlet macaws were my favorite.

We did both the ridge hike and the waterfall hike with Guillermo as our guide. Both were wonderful. Without a guide, we would never have learned about so much of the rainforest. The family favorite was the waterfall hike because we were able to swim and jump off of a waterfall. My kids are still talking about that experience. After our hikes, we spent some time at the beautiful pool, followed by pure relaxation in our bungalow. We especially enjoyed the 4:30 PM delivery of wine and the early AM coffee/hot chocolate deliverys. Every meal we ate was phenomenal and the staff was extremely helpful.

It was a wonderful place to reconnect with nature and their was plenty for the kids (7&9) to enjoy.. I hope to return for another visit some day.

Room Tip: It is quite the climb back to the lodge from room 11.

Dear Nikkit392014,
Greetings from Lapa Rios Eco Lodge in Costa Rica. We were so excited to hear about the fact that your kids are still talking about the waterfall hike experience. We enjoyed very much taking you on this hike. It is a wonderful experience and we recommend it for every one of our guests. Thanks for sharing your family vacation experience with other travelers. We agree that Lapa Rios can be a great family desination for children above six years of age. It is almost like being in an outdoor classroom learning about the wildlife and ecosystems of the tropical rainforest. All the tours that Lapa Rios operates are included in the rate. Of course it helps that the parents are happy with great food, early morning organic coffee delivery and afternoon biodynamic wine delivery. Please come back or send your friends. Thanks again and all the best.

Lapa was truly magical. A serenade of 8-10 Scarlet Macaws were the alarm clock every day. The property was amazing. Nearby waterfalls, a good beach (albeit a tad rocky for surf & swim). Primary and secondary forest. The guides were lovely and truly invested in what they do, I got a much deeper connection with the jungle through their collective wisdom. The rest of the staff was amazing and warm. It is by far the most immersive wildlife experience I've ever had, with every corner moving, flying, crawling, leaping from branch to branch, etc. I truly came back different, possibly more animal; less wasteful human. We really need to get it together, People. And if you need that reminder, go here and live amongst the beautiful creatures and see why. It's probably the most important thing you can do. BRAVO LAPA RIOS!

Room Tip: If you can't do a million stairs, make it known. It's a crazy trek up if you are below a cer...

We loved our experience at Lapa Rios. From the moment we arrived and were greeted with fresh coconut milk to seeing the four kinds of monkeys, armadillos, toucans, macaws, poison dart frogs and so much more, to waterfall repelling, zip-lining, swimming, surfing, morning, day and night hikes; enjoying great food, and meeting the exceptionally sweet and knowledgeable staff, we did not ever want to leave. It was an adventure we will never forget.

Absolutely breathtaking!! A great vacation for any family looking to reconnect with nature!

From check in to check out the service was flawless. Marlon and Roberto knew our familie's names from day one. They were friendly and anticipated our needs with our young children. The food was exquisite and the beverages felt like drinking the tropics! The bungalows were immaculately clean and recently updated. The exotic animals where everywhere. Our children ages 12, 10 and 8 where mesmerized with the diverse and exotic wildlife, the hikes provided by Lapa Rios exceeded our expectations. The guides where extremely knowledgeable about the Rainforest and surrounding landforms and there wasn't one question that went unanswered.

Overall, it was the best family vacation!

Dear Vivian,
greetings to all of you from the Osa Peninsula. Thank you bringing your family to Lapa Rios and writing such a wonderful review. We are very happy to hear that we met the expectations of your 8 year old son as well as the rest of the family. Lapa Rios is a great destiination for families with children older than 6. It is like a biology classroom in the rainforest and a great way to see the real world and leave the i-pads and i-pods behind for a while. Of course we are very happy that you were also so impressed with the food, drinks, the bungalows and of course the service you received. We hope your review will inspire other families to come to Lapa Rios during their vacations. Come back soon.

A great lodge with great service. The guides and servers were outstanding. The views from the cabinas and lodge were breath taking. Watching the monkeys and macaws from above was just incredible. Despite being in the jungle, everything was very clean. No bug problems at all, anywhere. The only mark below excellent was sleep and that is because you are in the jungle literally. The Howler Monkeys set their alarm clock earlier than most people. But, you get used to it. A great vacation.

Go there for the sense of connecting with nature, in a pristine rainforest, with amazing diversity of animals and birds in the wild.
Comfortable screened cabins, all with views.
Fantastic pool overlooking the ocean.
Excellent guides for hikes.
Wake up to the sound of howler monkeys and remain undisturbed by technology (no cell reception, no wifi, no tv).
Service is very polite and attentive (although with few women on staff, betraying the Spanish-catholic influence to this day of keeping women at home...)
Outstanding attention to ecology: food leftovers are recycled into methane gas for cooking, for example.
Food is good to very good, always fresh, but this is not a gastronomic destination.
Only rate value as average because it is expensive.

Room Tip: All rooms have views of the ocean, but the majority also face south, so they get hotter during the d...
