We just returned from our 6th trip to BdC. This is the place to go for the perfect vacation! Where else can you go and find beautiful beaches, amazing jungle, mangroves, fantastic fishing, hiking, surfing, and incredible viewing of wildlife and marine life. It just keeps getting better and better! This year, along with the dolphins, turtles and humpback whales, we were blown away by the sighting of a Whale Shark! What a beautiful sight! The whale shark came right up to our boat and stayed at the surface of the water, so his massive gray body, speckled with white dots was clearly visible. Wow!!! We also witnessed a troop of Capuchin Monkeys in a dispute with a troop of Howler Monkeys over some jungle territory. The Capuchins, the smaller of the species, were actually more aggressive. What a show! The best part is you get to experience all of this with luxurious accommodations, with the exception of air conditioning, ( You get the cool breezes from the ocean, so this really isn't needed. ) in one of the most beautiful places on earth. Bosque del Cabo is run like a 5 star resort. The food is delicious, and there's plenty of it. You will not find a better staff of people anywhere in the world. The staff at BdC is amazing. The warmest, friendliest, most accommodating staff you will ever be fortunate enough to encounter in your travels. We love them all! Carlos and Phil Davidson are the most knowledgeable guides in all of Costa Rica, hands down. We've traveled other parts of this amazing country and know this to be a fact. They are definitely the best! You also have many well maintained trails to explore, with an abundance of wildlife, so there is never a dull moment. Some vacations can be a little boring for children. This place just oozes excitement for the kids. They will love exploring the trails, and seeing the wildlife first hand. They will actually see the animals they have only seen on television or in the zoos in there own native habitats. It doesn't get any better than this. So go! You won't be disappointed. Bosque del Cabo has it all!!!!

I went to see wildlife and this review really only applies to those with that as their main reason for visiting.
This lodge is miles from anywhere but has a great variety of wildlife. Most unusually in my experience it makes no effort to attract creatures using feeders etc., but many creatures appear at ease even very close to the cabins and restaurant area. Monkeys were common as were various birds such as toucans and hawks, while macaws flew by. There was a pond fairly close (others at different spots) to the lodge centre that attracted many frogs even out of season. I saw a variety of creatures though for me I was sorry that it was not a good time for butterflies (apparently March April for them). A second pond had many dragonflies and I saw several mammals other than monkeys, two of which I had not seen previously.
There were various optional activities for those more interested in energetic activities and many places to walk.
The service was excellent. If like me you like seeing nocturnal creatures (including snakes which I also like) the night walks were great.
I was lucky enough to visit off season when I had the whole place almost to myself and amazingly good weather in spite of being warned by various sources that there would be a lot of rain. Apart from the lack of butterflies, it was a great place to spend 4 nights.

Room Tip: This lodge is organised in such a way that really price is the main factor as to accommodation. The...

Just read the reviews- it is pretty much like the reviews. This was our third time to C.R. and we were very happy. Skip the tourist areas and get to the real Costa Rica. You will NOT be disappointed! There is plenty of wildlife, flora, great food, great rooms, great staff, simply- perfect. This is a place for all ages and athletic abilities. Yes, it is off the beaten path but that is the charm and adventure of it.
We only stayed for four nights, that is just not long enough. It takes a couple of days to acclimate to the heat and humidity, keep that in mind when planning. We got some hiking in but were not done! We ran out of time. Sigh...........
We know next time to stay longer, yes, we WILL return!
Rooms- we had a room with a sunset and ocean view and absolutely loved it. We checked out the garden rooms while there to compare. These are more in the jungle and are more open- (open wall ), they have a nice outside shower as well. It just depends on what you want. The garden rooms are more rustic for sure.
Anyway, this place is unique and is being preserved which is so crucial for biodiversity to be able to continue. Thank you and Pura Vida!

This was our second visit to Bosque del Cabo and we were not disappointed. For a more detailed review of the lodge, please see my review from last year. You simply will not find a another eco lodge that can match the extremely high level of customer service, amenities, and delicious gourmet food coupled with unsurpassed wildlife viewing. The grounds of the lodge and views of the ocean are spectacular. Now there is a white lipped peccary that has taken up residence on the grounds of the lodge. It was great fun to see her while we were eating breakfast and lunch at the open air restaurant. Bosque has a great variety of guided tours and activities available, but what we really like is the miles of trails on the property that we can hike on our own. Must do tours are the 4 hour primary rainforest tour given by Philip, the naturalist, birding tours with Carlos (he is amazing at spotting birds), night tours with Philip (great for seeing frogs, snakes, bats, and spiders), and the sustainability tour for a behind the scenes look at how the lodge operates. Philip, the resident naturalist, is a huge asset to the lodge, he is ALWAYS available and willing to look at a picture of some animal or reptile to help us identify it and has great tips on what trials to go on and what to do. What always amazes me is how much wildlife we can see without ever leaving the grounds of the lodge. Phil and Kim Spiers are to be congratulated on creating a beautiful 750 + acre forest reserve and I love their commitment to conservation and sustainable tourism. We normally don't go to the same place twice, but Bosque del Cabo is on our list of places to return to year after year! We WILL be back!

Room Tip: The garden cabinas (a little further walk and over the suspension bridge) are open air and a great w...

Coming from the cold of Canada what a journey. Outdoor showers, challenging trails with surprises along the way, masses of green foreign plants. And animals right at your feet. 100% humidity in the forest and cooling breezes on the cliff at night teasing the netting surrounding your bed. Meals to satisfy the most elegant palate in the most relaxing setting. Wish I were back!

I've stayed in a lot of places around Costa Rica, Bosque del Cabo is a must to add on to any stay. Getting here it's recommended to fly to Puerto Jimenez where they will pick you up for the drive in.
The Cabina's are 5 star ... comfortable beds, screened in.... with hammocks on your porch for dozing or watching the amazing wildlife.
When there I saw 6 toucans in a tree outside my cabin.. and spider monkey's playing every morning right outside my door... coffee in hand ...it was magical entertainment.
There are beautiful landscaped grounds... (this is not a "jungle"). for those of you who might be apprehensive.
Every night we all ate together . Amazing food prepared with local ingredients, that the chef and cooks will tailor if needed for special diets.
The hikes are tough... so not recommended for anyone with handicaps.. but the grounds are all flat...
There is electricity and they will give you flashlights for evening ...
Keep in mind..it is early starts and early to bed....to get the most out of the Rain forest... get up early... do the bird watching... watch the monkey's... and all the other critters that forage around.. NO Worries, nothing will "get you"!!
This is Costa Rica as it should be seen. The owners have done the most spectacular job of keeping the lowest footprint... be sure to read about or even ask... about the history of this piece of paradise. I recommend the dry season, so you can get out and about... but even if it is rainy... it is mild .

Room Tip: maybe get a cabina on the lodge side .. not over the bridge... if you do not want to walk in the dar...

From the pick up at the Puerto Jimenez airport, to our drop off a week later, this could not have been a better week. Went with my husband and two adult kids-20 and 21. Stayed in the Aracari, upstairs, which is an open to the ocean view cabin with a king bed and two twins, full bath. There are many choices, some with food included, others not. It is a 4 minute walk to the main dining/lodge/pool. Not sure where to start..Food: It is a good thing there is so much to do, or you could gain weight! Meals are outstanding and healthy! Breakfast and lunch off the menu, changing daily. Dinner is a buffet with community seating to allow good guest conversation. My son, who is not an adventurous eater, was able to get "sandwich queso" (grilled cheese) every day and my vegetarian daughter found "special" potatoes without meat and fish prepared just for her the night two meat dishes were served. A gluten free guest found gluten free lasagna one night. They will do lunch to go for activities that take you out during the day. Great bar...try the "tico sours"! Daily activities are up to you. We/the kids tried paddle boarding and surfing (great instructor), zip line/rappelling, bird walks-morning and late afternoon, night tours (spiders, snakes, frogs, bats), hiking different trails, even a boat trip to Golfo Dulce to see dolphins, swim, visit an animal sanctuary-which is GREAT-and to go through the mangroves to see birds, monkeys and other wildlife. Your schedule is all up to you. The beaches are more for walking/playing/surfing, as opposed to swimming. They have great guides/naturalists (Carlos-who can find birds with his eyes closed and Philip-who leads a morning tour, night tour and zip line), or you can do things on your own. Staff will help with transportation/scheduling. Small pool, great for cooling off after hiking before afternoon nap. As for wildlife, we saw all species of monkeys, had a sloth with a BABY!! right outside out balcony, birds, birds, more birds. No quetzals (they are north). But GREAT birds to see and photograph. The staff are terrific...EVERY one of them. Language is not an issue, but I tried using my Spanish and am now a bit better. They are friendly, accommodating, welcoming. The entire property is well cared for, with attention to protection of the environment and community. Owners Phil and Kim have created a great property/destination. Note the reviews...all excellent. Now the question is how soon we can return.

Room Tip: We liked the ocean view. Others look over gardens. All depends on what you are looking for and how m...
