Everything about this hotel is excellent. We were met with a 4x4 at their office in Porto Jimenez for the 45 minute transfer to the lodge. The staff could not have been more friendly and welcoming. Our cabin was superb - large, private, comfortable and with a stunning view (monkeys, scarlet macaws and toucans just above us, and one day a whale cruising by just offshore). The food is good and the guided walks by resident biologist, Phillip, were some of the best hours of our holiday. There are lots of lovely walks around and we saw masses of wildlife, including sloths and an armadillo.

Room Tip: We had Mariposa which was farthest away by quiet and private.

Bosque del Cabo exceeded our expectations for this visit at the end of February. This is a jewel of a lodge located on the Osa Peninsula in the south west of Costa Rica. The lodge has everything you would want on a natural history holiday with a good bit of comfort. It is located on the edge of the Corcovado National Park and is surrounded by spectacular primary and secondary rainforst with outstanding flora and fauna on your doorstep. We stayed at the Congo cabina with great views of the Pacific and lots of wildlife on view from our deck. You have to be patient and the wildlife comes to you with early morning and late afternoon as the best time for viewings. But what makes this lodge so special are all the other ingredients that make a holiday memorable. The staff are outstanding - perhaps they all feel a sense of ownership of the property. They are friendly, helpful, extremely flexible and make you feel wanted without overwhelming guests. The food is terrific and Maureen and her team really use lots of local ingredients and fresh fish when it is available. We really looked forward to the cocktail hour before dinner and then the super buffets with the other guests on long tables where you could exchange sightings and experiences. There are many interesting hiking trails and both the resident naturalists, Carlos and Phillip, are terrific guides and provide a wealth of knowledge on the birds, insects, reptiles animals and plants/trees of the rainforest. We have never been to a resort with so many like minded people, guests, owners and staff, with similiar values and sensitivities. We felt at one with Bosque del Cabo and the dawn chorus here is so special - it was an inducement to explore. We hardly ever consider going back to the same place but Bosque del Cabo is on our return list. It has been tastefully developed with a genuine concern for the environment/habitat and the richness of the wildlife and the very special people that work here make it a memorable resort.

Bosque del Cabo exceeded our expectations from the moment we arrived. This is truly a magical piece of property filled to the brim with amazing animals, plants and primary and secondary rainforest. It was everything we wanted Costa Rica to be. We stayed at both Tucan and Congo cabinas and we loved them both! Beautiful, clean, comfortable and integrated with its surroundings perfectly. The views of the ocean at Congo were amazingly beautiful and scarlet macaws dine on the almond tree right outside your room! Of course, you must love nature. We had a bat fly in our room a couple nights, which added to the experience, so was positive for us!! What surprised me most, was the wonderful staff. Such genuinely kind people who go above and beyond to create a truly unique and memorable experience. The owners are hands on and really made us feel taken care of. Everyone there was wonderful: knowledgable and hospitable. I have special dietary needs and they always took such good care of me and kept my belly full! Bosque has it all-rainforest, beach, great trails and hiking, delicious food and drinks, amazing people, great tours and a genuine experience that left us in complete bliss! I have to say, Phillip, their resident biologist, was excellent and his Primary Rainforest tour is a must for anyone wanting to understand and appreciate what is happening in the forest. I loved it. I highly recommend Bosque for nature lovers and cannot wait for my return trip someday. Pura Vida!

We have stayed in a lot of exquisite hotels and resorts in a variety of locations, but our five night stay at Bosque del Cabo in January 2014 has placed this rainforest retreat at the very top of our list. There are many qualities that make Bosque del Cabo so special: the extensive trails that one can explore on one’s own; the constantly in-your-face (in a good way) wildlife; the excellent guided tours that are extremely informative –Phillip, the resident naturalist, is particularly good; the service that is genuinely friendly and warm – one feels the staff are treated very well and they seem to thoroughly enjoy their work; the privacy and beauty of the cabinas; the genuine caring of the owners who are very much present on the site and their genuine stewardship of the land; the ease and efficiency of the reservation process and the follow-through when things change; the quality of the clientele (a large percentage of whom are return guests – many of them four or five times) and the friendly rapport that develops at cocktail hour and at dinner – I felt, for one of the few times in my life, that I was with a group of people—owners, workers, guests--who shared my values,

This was our first trip to Costa Rica; it has not been high on our list and we don’t tend to return to the same place, there being so many places we want to see. But on returning from this trip, we immediately made a reservation at Bosque for next year—this time for a week. It is very selfish in this world to want to have it all; Nevertheless, when I rough it on a vacation, I love the closeness to nature, but miss the comforts of luxury; and when I travel into luxury, I both feel guilty and miss the intimate contact with the natural world. For once, at Bosque, del Cabo, I got to have both -- without guilt. Well, without much guilt.

Room Tip: Sol is not a deluxe cabina, but it has a lot of wildlife activity compared to some of the other cabi...

My husband and I found Bosque del Cabo almost 10 years ago on a trip through Costa Rica. We have always remembered it as a special place and we waited until our daughter was old enough to go back with us. This time we decided to spend the entire vacation here as it is unique and magical place. The lodge gives you the rare opportunity to be close to animals in their natural habitat, explore nature and have some exciting adventures all in a beautiful location with great accommodations, delicious food and an excellent staff that are warm and welcoming and go out of their way to make your trip amazing.
Our cabina overlooked the Pacific ocean and we would greet each morning on our deck watching the monkeys, scarlett macaws and hummingbirds play around in our trees. We did daily hikes sometimes to the beach to play in the tide pools and waterfalls. Some through the forest to see the animals. We also zip lined, tree rappeled waterfall rappeled and went on a dolphin/snorkeling trip which was also incredible.
For our daughter this was a paradise, she could explore, see animals, learn from some incredible guides (Philip & Carlos) and have some unique experiences. She thought it was the coolest place she has been (and she has traveled a lot in her young 8 years) and rated this her favorite vacation ever.
As other people have written, Phil & Kim have created a place that does feel like family and is such a special place it stays with you long after you have left. We already are planning when we can go back. This is a must experience for families or for couples.

Room Tip: We have stayed in Manglillo and La Palma. Manglillo has a loft which is great for families as it has...

Stayed 5 nights around New Year in this unbelievably beautiful luxury lodge on peninsula Osa. Location is marvellous, cabinas with excellent seaviews well furnished (open air showers), gorgeous pool, breakfast and lunch great, buffet style dinner mostly good.
Staff hospitable, friendly and motivated. Helpful and charming owners.
Well maintained self- guided trails belonging to the property, good chance to spot spider monkeys, howlers, scarlet macaws..........
Stayed first 2 nights in a classic cabina (Bambu), but changed for the rest of 3 nights to a deluxe cabina (Tucan). Little bit more expensive, but much better sea-views and better equipped as well- well worth to spend the little extra money.
Definitely loved our stay at this lodge!
But they have an interesting price- and reservation policy. We booked the room in spring 2013 and they offered us - as it turned out- high season price 2012/13. We accepted and booked the room. In summer 2013 according to the agreement they asked us for a 50% prepayment- but with an increase of price of 20 (!!)% for the same high season days around New Year. A remarkable price policy!
And if the guy at the reservation office of Bosque del Cabo in San Jose is telling you that you should plan your Corcovado- N.P.- activities not in advance, but after arriving at the lodge- don´t believe him. Believe the Bosque del Cabo- homepage which recommends doing it well in advance. We planned our flight to Sirena (with a guide) and our daywalk from La Leona to the N.P. with the support of a small travel agency in Puerto Jimenez called Osa Wild- recommended.
When booking it via Bosque del Cabo, expect to pay higher prices. It´s a luxury lodge, folks.............

My wife and I spent recently spent a week at Bosque. We rarely repeat a vacation but Bosque is the exception. This was our second time there and we are getting ready to book again for December 2014. It is truly a special place. You begin to get the “feel” for the property as you enter the long jungle driveway and chances are you will see wildlife before you even see the lodge.

The lodge, which is where the meals are, is located in an open area where animals are all around. We never had a meal without seeing all sorts of exotic birds, animals ect. Toucans flying everywhere, at one lunch we counted 15 in a single tree. While a “white lipped peccary” wandered around.

The food is terrific with an abundance of fresh vegetables at each meal. Really varied menu choices. It is a fun atmosphere at breakfast with the guests all starting various adventures and then again at dinner when everyone returns and describes their day. A very small cozy bar, perfect for cocktails and meeting new friends before dinner.

The staff is very friendly and helpful in every way. You get the feeling that you are in the middle of a family and that feeling is sincere. I believe this is a reflection of Kim and Phil, the owners who take a hands-on approach to running the lodge. They are always present to assist or recommend a hike or resolve any issue that may arise. They treat the staff like family and it is so evident in how the staff relate to the guests.

We are both hikers. We have flown into the Sirena Station in Corcovado Park and hiked all through the park. I must tell you that we saw more wildlife and had more enjoyable hikes at Bosque than at Corcovado. You can easily spend a week just on the property trails and never get bored. Hikes to the Pacific, the waterfalls, tidal pools, really never gets old.

The rooms we have stayed in are terrific. Casa Teka is remote and across the suspension bridge. An adventure getting there but you are alone in a large meadow with exotic birds, a black sky with unbelievable stars and of course howler monkeys. Orchid Cabina is more central to the lodge, new and beautiful. The deck has a view of the ocean and it seems like it is on an animal highway. All sorts of wildlife would wander below the deck.

So if you are reading this you must be considering staying at Bosque. My advise, make the reservation. You will never regret it. The only bad time at Bosque is when it is time to leave.

I’m happy to answer any questions you may have.
