“So relaxing”
Reviewed 10 June 2009

My wife and I came to the same conclusions, it was an excellent trip and we enjoyed every moments at the Lodge.
The environment is exceptionnal and the wildlife amazing.

Make sure you get a massage in the jungle, very nice and so relaxing

No T.V., no phone, no computer and no radio....The perfect set up to focus on the essence of life and enjoy the surrounding nature.

Not only did we enjoy our stay but we learn so much thanks to Philip and the guided tours.
Food was excellent, even managed to add a few kilos.

The walking trails are userfriendly and the indications are good. We managed to hike at least 1 trail a day.

The staff is very friendly and dedicated.

Diner is always interesting since you meet other guests and can get to know people from different places. Everyone we met were friendly and very nice.

Like someone mentionned in an other post, it is a tropical lodge so do expect to see insects, animals....It is the point of being there so be open minded!!!.

We will most certainly go back to Bosque, many thanks again to everyone.

What can I say? You have probably read it all. Philip was an incredible knowledgeable tour guide. The food is incredible. The wildflife phenomenal. We had a great time hiking. I recommend timing the Pacific trail far enough from high tide that you can make it to the waterfal. It is beautiful, but the tide does come in quick and you can't make it back to the trail at high tide. Staff is so friendly and knowledgeable. I will never forget this vacation.

My one criticism is that while there are screens on the windows, all of the doors on our cabina had wooden slots, so that critters could easily crawl or fly right in. As fabulous as our stay was, it did force me to confront my fear of insects (which I expected). But if a visit from a large spider, or a scorpion, or other things that crawl will destroy your vacation, then this isn't the place for you. But if you are willing to push past your fear, it is well worth it.

We (me, wife and 13 year old daughter) spent 10 days in Costa Rica and 6 of them at Bosque del Cabo. I won't repeat what others have said--it's all true. A wonderful--and in our experience, unique--place to spend a week.

I want to note that we almost passed it over because the web site does not begin to do it justice. More than anything, it was the reviews here that led to the booking.

i really wasn't sure what to expect with this lodge - the reviews were all great but the website didn't really convey the luxury of this place well so we took a chance. my husband and i really enjoyed our stay at this little eden. the lodge has been developed with love and passion and the cabinas and restaurant areas are beautifully presented, comfortable, clean and sit sympathetically into the surroundings. there's lots to do but our favourite activity was lying on the hammock on our veranda staring out at the ocean views and watching all the wildlife (we saw macaws, toucans, monkeys, humming birds, agouti, coati and more just from here). would highly recommend for a get away from it all escape (there's no way of communicating with the outside world from here!). Food is wonderful too and we really enjoyed the 'communal' dinners where you get to chat with the other guests - everyone we met was lovely.

For anyone looking to enjoy the beauty & tranquility of Costa Rica Bosque del Cabo is the place to go. Everything from our thatched roof cabin to the gourmet meals we were served was perfect. The lodge is built in a way to experience all of the wildlife & birds that live in the Rainforest. There are many beautiful trails for hiking as well as a guide to explain everything. The staff are all wonderful & eager to assist with whatever you need. The best vacation we've ever had.

I was a bit skeptical and didn't think BDC could live up to my expectations since I'd read so many glowing reviews about it. It exceeded my expectations. We stayed 3 nights in late March in a deluxe cabina with loft. Kevin met us at the airport and offered to take us to the store for anything we wanted. What a wonderful guy! He attempted to talk to me in simple Spanish that I could follow and encouraged me to respond in Spanish. He talked all about what we were seeing as we drove the 1/2 hour or so to Bosque. He was continually looking for wildlife and stopped the truck several times for us to look at something.

All of the employees at Bosque were so friendly and accommodating. Their service rivals that of a Ritz Carlton or Four Seasons in my opinion.

Our first afternoon there we watched a troupe of howler monkeys in the trees from our cabina balcony. What a treat - to swing in your hammock overlooking the ocean and to watch monkeys in the wild right next to you. What an experience!

We hiked many of the trails at Bosque and saw howler monkeys, spider monkeys, capuchin monkeys, squirrel monkeys, agoutis, coatis, blue morpho butterflies, scarlet macaws, bats, leaf cutter ants, and poison dart frogs . Other guests saw peccaries, anteaters and sloths.

The food was outstanding. Every single thing we ate we loved. Breakfast and lunch are served at your own table and you order from a small menu which changes every few days. Dinner is served buffet style and you sit with other guests. It was really interesting to talk with others and hear about what they saw and did. Bosque does seem to attract a lot of really interesting people with unique experiences. We talked with a retired couple one night who had quit their jobs and traveled the world for one year on two separate occasions. If you don't feel like visiting with strangers they set out three or four tables you can request in advance that you don't share with others.

Highly recommend the guided primary forest tour with Philip and the shorter nightime tour. The day tour took about four hours so I wouldn't do it with kids. The nightime was only 45 mins or so and would be great for kids. We learned so much from Philip. I came away with such an appreciation of the rainforest and its complexities and an understanding why it's imperative we preserve it. I would suggest that Bosque make it more clear that the guided hikes are not free. They're listed on a board with the times, but no indication of a cost. A cost wasn't mentioned when we showed up either. It was simply added to our bill at the end. I did notice later, the in room booklet of information mentions the fees for the tours, but it would have been nice to be aware of the cost prior to taking them.

Used the pool a lot. It's small, but feels so good as a relief from the heat and humidity.

Be sure to bring bug spray and flashlights and/or headlamps. It's dark by 6:00 and you need light to get to your cabina after dinner. I also liked having it to find the bathroom at night. Earplugs were great too to help mute the noise of the fan on the headboard of the bed. Also helpful to sleep in the morning when the howler monkeys start doing their thing at 5:00am.

We had a few ants in our room and the biggest gecko I've ever seen. Maybe 8 ins long. Two other guests reported scorpions in their rooms and one told us of a frog in his. You're in the middle of the rainforest so this is to be expected. Simply something for people to keep in mind when considering staying here.

I commend the owners for their commitment to wildlife, rainforest conservation, and environmental consciousness. They've created an upscale lodge in the middle of the rainforest and are not simply interested in making money, but in preserving the environment and educating others.

Truly magical place...
