This place is incredible! We were there for 4 nights and got to see many howler monkeys, capuchin monkeys, spider monkeys (my favorite to watch), toucans, scarlet macaws, and many other little creatures. We were in the Vista Mar room which I recommend, but only if you don't mind people above you because you WILL hear every step. One of my favorite things to do was to relax in the hammock on our deck and wait for the wildlife to come to us, which it did. The view from the room was stunning. The sun sets behind some trees that mostly block the actual sun, but that did not take away from the gorgeous sunsets.
Keep in mind that you ARE in the rainforest with bugs, especially at night. Right after getting cozy in bed with it being pitch black, I felt something jump on my chest...scared the living daylights out of me! After frantically searching the room with my heart racing, we found that it was a grasshopper. We got a good laugh one night because we heard the people upstairs all move suddenly in a panic. Clearly, they too experienced some kind of scary bug in their room. With that being said (from someone who freaks out at the smallest spider), it's 100% worth it!!! I don't mean to scare you, but feel it's necessary to mention it. It IS the rainforest, so it comes with the territory....This place is incredible! The service is some of the best we've ever experienced on vacation. We were consistently impressed with how friendly the entire staff was. The owners clearly make it a priority to hire people who genuinely care about making each guest feel welcomed. The food was great. I appreciated the variety which included many healthy options. Also, there is wifi in the bar. We never had trouble connecting. We were able to FaceTime our family back home a couple times with no problem.
For us, 4 nights was perfect. We would have been ok with 3 nights but that's almost cutting it too short. We spent most of our time hiking during 2 of the days, and 1 late morning relaxing at the beach at Playa Pan Dulce which I highly recommend. The Pacific Trail and Golfo Dulce trails are tough but worth it. The Titi Trail is much easier. We loved all 3 trails. Be sure to ask how much water you need before heading out. We underestimated how much water we would need on the Golfo Dulce hike which made for a very unpleasant experience in the hot and humid weather. One staff member did tell us to bring lots of water which we thought we had, but clearly it wasn't enough. It's hard to know how much to bring when you're not used to those conditions.
If you're a nature lover, come here. You will love it! I will recommend it in a heartbeat to anyone who says they want to visit Costa Rica.More
