What can I say about Casa Bambu but fabulous? I’ve stayed in Matapalo before but Casa Bambu was so relaxing! The expanse of yard out to the beach with agoutis, the spider and squirrel monkeys and macaws every evening in the trees, the beautiful beach out front. Wow! We had such a great time and the house was so comfortable. The breezes coming up from the beach were enough to put you in trance all day sitting on the deck. The kitchen facilities were wonderful with everything you would ever need to make any kind of meal. It was so much fun to sit around the dining room table at night and talk about our experiences from the day. Lyn and Kirk know how to do it right providing all the information you need to make your trip a dream. William was wonderful and our night hike with him was quite grueling but we saw so many cool things. He entertained us with his night jungle stories! He is so nice and caring and will bend over backwards for you. He even brought a green/black poison arrow frog to our porch since we hadn’t seen one! He also took us to Puerto Jimenez on our last day since our taxi driver never showed up. The weather was the best in 13 years I have been coming to Costa Rica and it was made even better by staying at Casa Bambu!

We also enjoyed the little brown stray dog that stayed by our side for the trip. He was so sweet and loved us to death. I hope the locals take care of him. I would have brought him back if I could!

I have been dreaming of visiting Casa Bambu for years, so my expectations were HIGH. I was still blown away by how magical it was. We awoke every morning to the sounds of crashing waves, howler monkeys and macaws. Lynn was so helpful and friendly, she arranged everything from facials & birthday diiners to getting us a new GPS for our drive back to San Jose. You MUST go hiking with Williiam, the hikes are spectacular. Tell him what animal you are hoping to see, and he WILL find it for you. On a side note, avoid stopping off in Jaco on your way back to San Jose! We were there for approx 30 min. And we had our passports, ID's, cash, cameras & more stolen. Of course this can happen anywhere, but between our hotel and the US Embassy, we met 12 other travelers who were getting temporary Passports so that they could leave the country...who were also robbed in Jaco Beach. Costa Rica is such a beautiful country, I would just avoid a known trouble spot. I wish that everyone could experience a stay at Casa Bambu (or Casa Linda), it is simple, beautiful and life changing!

Dive with dolphins, groom a monkey, catch your own dinner from an ocean kayak, learn to surf, swim in a jungle pool fed by a magnificent waterfall, all brought to you by the gracious and caring hosts and staff of Casa Bambu. It was not hot, there were few if any mosquitoes - a nice change from NC in August! It is an adventure well documented with solid information provided by Lyn and Kurt; helped along by William - a trusty guide, and comfortable surroundings insured by Leda. The houses are wonderful examples of green living. Go if you can!

If so, this is the place for you. Our group of 6 spent a week in Casa Linda. We hiked, scaled waterfalls and strangler figs, swam with dolphins, woke to the sound of howler monkeys (ok, this was a bit early in the morning), and read on the porch to the sound of crashing waves. It was a very special time and a wonderful vacation.

Casa Bambu is one of 4 rental houses in the Matapalo region of Costa Rica's Osa Peninsula. In order to experience all that Costa Rica has to offer, you really need to spend time on the Osa Peninsula. In 2005 we spent time in Puerto Jimenez. This time we wanted to be a little further off the grid. (Casa Bambu is essentially on the beach, has solar power, and is open to the outdoors.) Casa Bambu certainly did not disappoint. Monkeys and Macaws galore - exactly what we had hoped for. And, as promised, not very buggy at all. The set-up on the beds should set the standard for rentals in Costa Rica. The mosquito netting surrounds the bed on a frame, rather than just hang above the bed, so it is out of the way. The light and fan are inside the net, which is very smart and makes for a very comfortable night's sleep. The girls' who work for the owners can be hired to cook using whatever groceries you have. Their cooking was fabulous and they were so kind to do our laundry. They cleaned the house on our 3rd day and it was pristine. The beach was a bit rocky when we were there, so a bit tough for boogie boarding, but I understand the beach conditions are constantly changing. The surf was fairly slow compared to the more populated areas of the Nicoya Peninsula, which was perfect for learning and helps contribute to the laid-back atmosphere of the area. Almost any walk in any direction from the house leads to sightings of howler monkeys, white-faced capuchin monkeys, agoutis, and all kinds of birds.

We all miss the Osa and it's people and wildlife. The boys miss the surf. I miss having Dennis drive us around and teach us about the area. We loved the boat trip and we all 5 adored Carol and Hannah at the Sanctuary. We hope to make it back to Casa Bambu in the not-too-distant future.
