In a county where vegetarian food is not easy to find this is a great place to go. My husband and I have been going for a few years and seen a couple of changes of staff in this time. Currently there are always 2 excellent vegetarian main courses all home cooked and hearty meat dishes too. Soups are always great and are served with either cheese scone or a roll if preferred. There is a good selection of coffee house fare and the smaller bites are enough for a light lunch in themselves. Salads are fresh and come with a delicious dressing. It's always toasty warm on a cold winter's day in the main eating area. There is also an area with more tables and settees to take the overflow at busy times. Outdoor seating too for warmer days. Most importantly the tea is good!

Occasionally come here for meetings with friends or colleagues, for leisure or discussions. The new brunch menu is worth a special mention, delicious and well-priced, and leaving you with enough space to have a tempting cake, too. Friendly service, too.

There is so much this place could be recommended for but the standard of service is not one of them.
Post lunch service when the restaurant was barely half full - we waited for an age to be served, table remained uncleared for a long time, when the order was finally taken it took nigh on 45 minutes to serve the food from sitting down to arrival and even then the order was wrong!. Staff clearly had little idea of how to operate, there seemed to be no direction and no-one was taking charge in an attempt to organise 4 staff including chef.
Other couples walked out while we waited and we also left completely dissatisfied.

This place could be a little goldmine, but needs someone to take charge and organise!

We've just eaten at this small cafe restaurant in Kirkharle, Northumberland. The courtyard is quite lovely, with excellent art and craft shops and the location is stunning. You can sit outside under smart parasols and catch the morning sun. Swallows and swifts swoop down from the sky - it's a little haven of tranquility. We ordered tea and soup and sandwiches for the family. Tea was very good, but the food was disappointing (bread was dry/soup was tasteless and watery). It's not a cheap place to eat - the bill for 4 of us (soup and sandwich/tea and pop) was £35, so more attention is needed in the kitchen if the food is to match the stunning location. This could be a delightful place to eat, but the food lets it down we think.

I am very sorry to hear that you did not enjoy your meal and have passed your comments on to the chef. As you will see from the other reviews your experience is not common but I hope that you will visit us again and leave with a better impression of our unusual menu.
