“Heavenly restful”
5 of 5 bubbles Reviewed 8 October 2011

We stayed for 7 nights at end September and although a little windy, it was mostly welcome due to the heat. We had a beach side villa which was roomy with a huge bathroom/changing area and the outside shower in its own bamboo garden was delightful. The bed was enormous. The villas are very well designed and the outside shaded day bed on the verandah is the epitomy of restful!
The staff were friendly and always many around to bring you iced water to the pool unasked.
There was building work but we did not hear it at all, and they provided tasty afternoon tea as compensation.
The food was good although you need greater choice for a 7 day stay.
This is excellent place if you want to chill, read, bathe and sleep, dont come here for lively evenings or looking for lots to do. We really loved it and will definately return.

Room Tip: The pool villas appear walled in and miss the views, chose a beach side villa.

I feel a bit churlish giving this place only 4 stars as there were no real tangible faults - just a feeling that it lacked that hard to identify something - that turns somewhere really lovely into somewhere truly special. It was almost as if they were trying a bit too hard - they'd followed the recipe for a stylish boutique hotel to the letter and the quality and layout were hard to fault. I guess what I'm saying is it lacked a bit of soul. All the ingredients were there and in the right place, but it just lacked a bit of spice or imagination to give it real character. Not something you can just acquire with expensive interior design and outside showerooms with your own personal bamboo forest.

That said we had a lovely stay - a beachfront villa with comfortable outside lounging area and plenty of privacy. The rooms were spacious, beds comfortable and the bathrooms generous. The grounds are beautifully maintained and there seems to be plenty of loungers - so no unseemly battles over prolonged occupancy! We spent our time, swimming, reading and identfying the honeymooners - of which there seemed to be a preponderance. Sparkly diamond rings and loved up coules were the order of the day! Not many kids running amok, which someone else was complaining about in a previous review. I guess it depends on the time of year you come. Everyone seemed to keep very much to themselves - but not in an unfriendly way. It's not a place to go for wild nightlife - most nights we were the last ones in the restaurant at around 9pm...

The building work was still going on, and I can imagine if you were staying in one of the back row villas, it would be very annoying, but it didn't really make much difference at the front. The hotel occupies a site on a currently otherwise empty cove a couple of kilometres to the north of Sengiggi. The beach is small but swimmable with a good pair of reef shoes (borrowable from reception) and a snorkel. We were there at a particularly windy time, so it did get a bit too rough and the red flags went up several times, but the pool is a really decent size and has a jaw-dropping view out over the sea to Bali. Sunset drinks were really memoreable.

There's not much within walking distance, but we hired a scooter one day and pottered up and down the coast to see the limited sites. Sengiggi itself is nothing to write home and seems to be suffering a bit from receding visitor numbers - but the bays to the north are beautiful and not yet covered in big resorts. Now that the airport has moved to the south of the island it will be interesting to see what happens to the development here.

The spa was good - perched on the hill overlooking the hotel and the bay, it was also located just beneath the coast road - despite this we were totally unaware of any traffic noise and were soothed by the lap of the waves rather than the roar of motorbikes!

Food was a slight disappointment. There were very few vegetarian options on the menu and it took a little while to discover they actually have a separate vegetarian menu you had to ask for. This looked really promising - with a good variety of choices, but having stayed 4 nights and tried something different each meal, they were actually all just a variation on the same small family of vegetables! A little more imagination and variety would have been good.

The other problem, mentioned by an earlier reviewer, was the wind. Probably not an issue most of the year, but when we stayed there was a really strong wind blowing straight off the sea and into the unprotected restaurant - everything on the tables had to be weighted down or it blew away and hot food quickly grew cold. The views were admittedly fantastic and I'm not sure how they can rectify this problem without masking these slightly. No one lingered very long and they may have missed out on some coffee and dessert orders in people's haste to escape the chill! However, the staff were friendly and chatty, all keen to improve there English or French or German...

Altogether it's a lovely place and maybe it's me that's become a little jaded rather than the resort that's at any fault. Certainly if this was my first experience of a tropical boutique hotel I think I would have been bowled over. You can hardly blame a hotel for getting everything right but just being a little bit anodyne about it. Don't let it stop you from going and having a fantastic time - I expect to get a little bit of flak for being such a mean-spirited grouch!

Room Tip: Choose a beach front villa to get away from the building noise.

In august 2011 we went for 5 nights to Jeeva Klui and we had there a wonderful time.
We had a suite with seaview just beside the restaurant and swimmingpool. The suite was very comfortable in a beautiful style. A nice big bed (we are 1,92 tall) and a bathroom (shower) outsight. The staff, especially from the restaurant, was very nice, friendly and helpfull. If we visit Lombok in the future, we certainly will return to Jeeva.

We stayed at Jeeva for five nights as a couple with a young 2yr old son, completely satisfied with our choice of hotel. The reviews say it all. The pick up service from the airport was efficient, the architecture was modern but in keeping with an Indonesian style, the outdoor shower was amazing, views from the terrace too, there aren't too many guests for it to feel crowded, free wifi, the service was warm and friendly, the infinity pool delightful...all in all, very nice.

What stopped it from getting five stars = thought the food was average at best, not much choice and not tasty or refined for 5stars (and I love Asian food). The beach is largely man made and the sea isn't that great for paddling, and was a bit choppy. Nothing major to be honest, and you won't be disappointed.

Also, unlike previous reviewer, we think it'd be a bad idea to ban families with young children. Our 2yr old is well behaved and who wants to only go to hotels with other couples?

Enjoy.

Staying at Jeeva Klui is certainly among the very best experiences we've ever had. The grounds are beautiful as are the rooms. We had a pool villa, where the outdoor shower and bath are bigger than most hotel rooms. The outdoor part of the villa is maybe three times the size of the indoor space. It is very much like renting a small house. The view from the restaurant is especially stunning - looking out over the infinity pool to the ocean below. Breakfasts are included but served a la carte, which is nice and unique. The food is great.

The most impressive aspect of the hotel, however, is the sense it gives you of being by yourself. At the beach, on the grounds, it seems rare to see other people. Another way to say that is the property is large for the number of guests, and it was full when we were there.

Visitors should know what they are getting, of course. This is not a place with a million things to do. It is not within walking distance of anything else. The pool is lovely, the beach is certainly big enough although not great for swimming - most of it is rocky in the water. You are at a beautiful resort with whoever you came with, and the views are the thing. Especially impressive are the sunsets when Bali's volcano is in silhouette.

Small things: Construction should be done in about a month, looking at where they are now. It is a little annoying depending on how close your room is. It would be good to have some things simply written out for guests, such as what sort of transportation is available (it is possible to rent motorbikes, cars with drivers for the day, the hotel car per hour, e.g., but this isn't obvious). The language ability of the staff varies a lot, but there is always someone who can explain things.

My wife and I have just returned from a 2 week stay at the Jeeva Klui.
The resort is absolutely stunning and spotlessly maintained.
The food in the restaurant was excellent and very well presented.
All the staff couldn't do enough to help.
I can't remember all the names, but a special mention goes to Ayu, Beital and Dedi in the restaurant, and also to Syamsul in Housekeeping.
We will definitely be returning.
