“A good experience IF you avoid room by the road”
Reviewed 4 February 2014

As other reviewers have mentioned, Puri Mas has two locations: the resort and the spa. You can stay at either one. We chose to stay at the resort, as it was on the ocean. Take note, however, that there is not a sandy stretch of beach between the hotel and the water. It is literally ON the water, and when we were there, the waves were fairly rough, so we enjoyed the pool (a very nice infinity pool that looks out onto the ocean). We requested one of the least expensive “garden view” rooms and were given bungalow #11. While we were initially enchanted by the little porch, the bed with the beautiful netting draped around it and the outdoor shower, an hour in our room proved the location of our bungalow by the road to be incredibly noisy. (You wouldn't think this area would have a lot of traffic, but it does!) We requested to be moved, and were shown an alternative room at the same price point, which was decidedly less spectacular than our bungalow (it was a standard room on the second floor above the check-in desk, not a bungalow like the rest of the accommodations). We then saw a room that was one price point above ours, and although the hotel originally tried to charge us extra for moving “up”, we countered that they billed themselves as a peaceful and relaxing luxury resort, and they were not delivering on their promise. With a little attitude, the staff person approved our move at no additional cost. We spent the night in bungalow #5, very similar to our initial room, although MUCH quieter. The restaurant served solidly good/ more-than-good food. However, the breakfast buffet left a lot to be desired. The landscaping around the rooms was enchanting—with flowering plants, quirky statues and winding stone paths. Overall, a very good experience if you can avoid the cheaper room by the road.

Room Tip: While we were initially enchanted by the hotel, an hour in our room proved the location of our bunga...

Hi marco172

Thank you for your review.

We are happy you enjoyed staying in one of our Classic Queen Garden View rooms - yes they are very beautiful especially the long terrace with the day bed!!

All of the properties in Mangsit do back onto the road, but perhaps during your stay there was more traffic or some special ceremony as we have very little comment regarding road noise in our resort.

Thank you for choosing to stay with us, and we look forward to enjoying your company again in the future.

Best wishes

Sara

Had a great stay in our Quirky Garden Room recently. Very spacious and cool a/c for those muggy nights. Huge outdoor bathroom with tub and shower, ample sized bedroom with comfy bed and a bonus outdoor reading/chilling area!

The setting is truly incredible. Lovely gardens and ponds. Best location of any hotel on Mangsit with the waves literally lapping up against the restaurant.

We found the included breakfast to be excellent. Lots to choose from, local dishes, eggs to order and an abundance of delicious fruit. Those people complaining about the beef bacon... um hello? Lombok is around 95 percent Muslim. They don't dine on swine. So why the heck would it be served here? To those other reviewers singing the praises of places like the nearby Qunci Villas, keep in mind those resorts will cost you approximately $200 more PER NIGHT.

It should also be mentioned that Puri Mas' no children policy is a most welcomed bonus. Especially for me and my parter who are both school teachers and need a break from kids!

Can I also say that Sarif the Bagus diving dude was awesome. So friendly and accomodating and sorted out a fantastic snorkling trip around the Gilis for a good price and with minimal fuss. Probably one of our best day trips.

Additionally, we had the pleasure of meeting Marcel who was nothing short of charming. Saw some great dancing in the Presidential Villa and met some very talented kids who I am assuming are his students.

Can we make one small suggestion though? We noticed each day that the 'fresh' towels were noticibly musty smelling, as if they had not been laundered properly. Other than that. Everything was great.

Thanks again guys! See you again!

We stayed there for 7 days. Both the Beach and Spa resort have it's merits. To experience a beautiful sunset be at the swimming pool. They have a wide range of services in terms of honeymooner, birthdays, anniversaries with a special meal.

We took the birthday package as spouse and me is only 2 days apart. The special meal was really nice. They were comfort local meals. I had all my meals in the resort, imagine that's how good it is.

The room is big and comfortable. I did not get to stay at the villa as it was fully booked. From what i see, the villa is a nicer option if you value personal privacy. If you see the owner, be sure to view the Presidential suite. He took much effort to decorate it and is a amazing experience for those who like to view art work. As for the other rooms, it may seem open but Puri Mas has taken a lot of effort to plant many trees and cactus to give everyone their personal space. The botanist who plan and maintain did very well.

The Spa had a very extensive menu to choose from and the couples will have the best time of their life. The masseurs are genuine in making sure you have the best massage service. From start the pick up from beach resort to the welcome drink, the massage routine and to the with fruits and juice offered. The whole process is well thought through. This part is very well done.

I particularly enjoyed the animal display. For some, it may be not easy to see a caged animal. However Puri Mas has given the best feed and care for all the animals. This part can be a double edge for customers.

The art pieces that had been brought in, shows an eye for the originality of Javanese art. The statues are collected from all over Indonesia whenever the owner travels and see a nice piece.

Though i wanted to decorate the room on my own as its a birthday bash, the staff supported by providing all the materials like flowers of different colors. The rose bouquet which i paid for is very nice too. Pity is at the airport customs, it is confiscated as plant species are not allowed. So do not buy any flowers for loved ones while you are there.

The gym is the only down side. Please create a proper gym or if not, just remove it. So as to ensure there isn't a single flaw in this beautiful compound. The whole experience is great, for some who are into fitness may be a huge letdown.

Puri Mas is a self run establishment. They take a lot of effort and have pride in giving the best experience to every guest. This mental model is not created overnight. It takes a lot of planning and continuous training to ensure staff are as good as their business concept.

Happy staff means happy management. A genuine smile is a day of joy for everyone.

All these did not come cheap. Be prepared to pay when you want the best, if you are willing to splurge, you will receive a top notch experience that lasts a lifetime. USD is at a low now and everything charged is in that currency. Be sure to capitalize in this.

Overall, Puri Mas is a thumbs up destination.

Room Tip: Stay by the beach.

We stayed at both the Beach and Spa Resort. The Spa was a late addition and our hand was forced as the Beach Resort was full. So glad it was. We loved both properties and when I return this June to Lombok I am likely to stay at both because they are both special in their own way. The property has a certain a je ne sais quoin. I think largely resulting from the owner actually having developed both resorts. He resides a the Spa Resort and this adds to personalised feel not experienced in chain managed resorts. His very capable Manager clearly keeps the resort humming along nicely.

The Spa resort is serene, private with few villas making for a peaceful experience. The Beach Resort is beautifully presented with a big variety of villas and room types joined by carefully and exquisitely maintained gardens. The beach itself is very ordinary as is the case with most beaches along this coast (I am spoilt coming from WA). From the resort landscape this is not noticeable. Its when you take a walk along them and discover debris and drains leading to the ocean that spoils Lombok. It was worse at Jeeva Klui.

The Beach Resort is on the main road which is the case with almost all of the hotels. We stayed at Jeeva Klui where we experienced a lot of road noise and the hard to handle very early morning prayer (0415 for 45 min) from our villa but this was not the case at Puri Mas. Our villa was located closer to the beach but they also shield the resort with walls and the reception area.

The staff were friendly, attentive and professional. They understood and spoke excellent English which meant ordering meals resulted in getting what we asked for!. The menu was adequate. We ate all our meals at both resorts as the notion of hopping in a cab to Sengiggi would shatter the serenity and peace we craved.

Its hard to recommend at particular room type. We were fortunate to be upgraded to Room 1, a villa with views to the ocean. It was delightful. But they all looked cute. Obviously the more you pay the more you get in terms of space and location.

We loved the big day beds in both locations. Both pools with great. I would have no hesitation in recommending this resort. It is very well managed, a great location, delightful surroundings, attentive staff and good value.

We are mid way through our stay here and just love it.
Right from the check in the staff have been open and welcoming , they enjoy having a chat and practising their English( which is very good) they are slowly teaching me Indonesian.
Our room has a lovely four poster bed with an outdoor rain shower which is delightful.
Breakfast is sufficient and I enjoy looking out to. The ocean and the outline of Bali while the waves lap up against the sea wall.
The infinity pool is spectacular and the hotel is exactly what I expected from the description on tripadvisor. The gardens are lovely and peaceful and you are in a tranquil place.
The beach is long but narrow and you can watch the surfers only 100 metres away.
It is only a 20000 rupiah( less than two Aussie dollars) taxi ride to Sengigi where there are some excellent eateries.
We cam in the wet season but have not seen much rain , it's not sticky and humid but a pleasant 31 degrees during the day.
If you want to be picky you can always find faults in a place but for me it's the whole relaxing experience you want and Puri MAS certainly delivers.

Room Tip: All rooms seem nice and you can choose different luxury levels, we went the second level and were mo...

We stayed at Puri Mas for 3 nights (17-20 October) and had the most fantastic time. The holiday was very last minute with it being booked just 3 days before we arrived however this was no issue for the hotel and they quickly organised our airport transfers for us. This was very important as we had never been to Lombok or Indonesia for that matter before.

Our villa was beautiful, very luxurious feeling and clean/tidy. The garden in the villa was beautiful and well kept and the private pool was lovely. We found the food to be very fresh and the menu quite varied so you could try the traditional Lombok delicacies or stick to more traditional meals such as salads, pizza and pasta dishes. The staff were so friendly and helpful particularly in the restaurant every day they greeted us very warmly.

The gardens in Puri Mas are quite spectacular and you could easily spend a morning walking through them and exploring the beach below. We also did spend a morning at the Puri Mas Spa which can reached via a short car transfer provided by the hotel. The spa is even more spectacular with breathtaking gardens.

Overall we could not fault the trip and it was a much needed relaxing and carefree holiday.
We will definitely come back.

Room Tip: We booked the romantic villa with private pool - this was just the best decision as allowed us to fu...
