We traveled here with kids aged from 11yrs to 2yrs old at the start of June 14. Their was something for everyone, nice pool maybe a bit on the small side for July/aug but perfect for off peck times.
We stayed with eurocamp in a classic plus mobile which was sited near reception.
Noise was low went being so close to the action. The eurocamp reps were great, esp Luke the manager who couldn't do enough for us.
We stayed 11days and didn't get to do everything so were coming back next year for longer.
Wifi was the only thing that let the place down. We own a business which needs to be checked on everyday despite holidays and the wifi wouldn't connect to our laptop or iPad, but was no problem with my iphone. Reception didn't entertain anyone with issues regarding this. Even the two iMacs in the cafe didn't work on some days.
Would prefer to pay for a reliable wifi service then to have a poor free one. But again we were on holidays so not a deal breaker

Travelled for 11 nights, family with 3 kids - 2.5,6.5, 7.5 with Eurocamp, first time camping but would be hard from our chat with family and friends to find a better site, this was top class. The minute you drive into this site there is a feel good factor.

Good site philosophy - quiet and spacious, owners Eric and Anna are involved in the operations, this site i would suit 0-12 years of age, i think maybe older kids would get a little bored with the water slides etc... there are a lot of activities to do on site ( check camp website ) and with Eurocamp you had kids clubs most of the time

We also had a family day out at Puy du Fou. It was just brilliant but WARNING !!! bring your own food / picnic. The on site shop is great for baguettes and croissants first thing in the morning as well as stocking the same range of goods as a small convenience store. We also shopped at Super-U at La Mothe Achard - about 15 minute drive away ( also Lidl in La Mothe Achard ).

Overall this was a brillant 11 days at this site, will definitely return.

Having stayed on other Castel campsites I can't imagine why this is given a 5 star rating other than it has a reasonable restaurant and big pool complex.

Upon booking we were asked if we needed electricity and as we didn't we found that we had been placed on a single pitch in the middle of what could only be described as a 'shed shanty town'! Once we had set up our tents we had a look around the site and discovered where all the other tents and caravans were, in lovely lush green pitches with electricity. If it had been explained to us that by not paying for an electric hook up (which was only a few euros extra), we would have to put up with a sloping sandy (all the grass had died) pitch next to the most basic of toilet blocks (last updated in 1960 by the looks of it) we would have paid the extra.

The toilet block as previous said, could not have been even serviced since the 70s. The space was shared with a bunch of aggressive nesting birds which constantly flew overhead defecating in the toilet area and showers - not very pleasant at all.

Our 26th time to this most amazing campsite and everything is still perfect. Friendly staff, great facilities and planned activities. Large individual pitches, wonderful restaurant and take away. Lovely pool and bar area. Everywhere is very clean and very well maintained. We will be back. Thankyou to everyone for making our holiday so happy.

We have just returned to the UK after a great week at La Garangeoire. We booked with Al Fresco, but in truth, any of the operators on the site seem to do a good job of keeping the accommodation clean and looking after guests. Some (Keycamp / Eurocamp) also lay on extra activities above the ones that the site runs.

It is important to understand the site's philosophy which is laid down clearly (perhaps sternly) by Eric at the welcome drinks on Monday. Essentially, the site is deliberately quiet and spacious and for the enjoyment of adults as well as children. A great play area is provided for children so that they don't have to be disturbing adults having a quiet drink in the beer garden. Free evening activities for children are laid on so that parents can enjoy dinner in the restaurant or drinks in the bar without disturbance.

Eric says (without a trace of irony) "you have come to France on holiday so you must be able to speak French"..."my staff will greet you primarily in French and only some of them will be able to switch to English if you persist".

There is a small amount of classy entertainment. Thankfully no bingo, noisy kids games in the bar, suggestive adults games, and hits from Grease belted out by an onsite all singing/dancing/acting entertainments team. Instead, how about an evening of wine tasting, crepe garden party, English pub quiz, and an excellent guitar duo. There was a kids disco on one night but again it was held in a marquee in the beer garden and not too loud.

Eric and Anne own and manage the site and live on site in the chateau seen on all the site's advertising. Their hands on management and engagement with the guests is definitely part of the charm. My highlight of the week was a 2 hour walk with Anne round the estate. It included a lot of history of the site, but also of the Vendée and a lot of behind the scenes knowledge accompanied by a fair amount of humour. Anne also pops up later in the week to deliver a really enjoyable beginners french lesson.

Staying at the site gives you access to walking routes in the rest of the estate. Nearby the Lac du Jaunay is great for a stroll and a nice cream at the lakeside cafe. Aside from that, you can drive to the coast just about anywhere and find miles and miles of perfect beach. We also had a family day out at the Grand Parc at Puy du Fou. It was just plain brilliant.

On a more practical note, the site shop is great for baguettes and croissants first thing in the morning as well as stocking the same range of goods as a small convenience store. We also had a single trip to the Super-U at La Mothe Achard to buy everything we needed as we largely self-catered.

I say "largely self-catered" because we also ate out at the site restaurant on some nights. The trick is definitely to feed the kids a self catered meal first and then book them into La Guarderie - the child minding service where they make stuff and watch films. The food in the restaurant was excellent. The service was unhurried - so unhurried on one night that despite being seated at 7:15 we hadn't got our main course by 9:00 and my wife had to pick up our two older sons from the Guarderie and send them over to the kids play area before returning for her main course. While I am used to "unhurried" French service in restaurants, most British and especially North Americans would consider this "slow".

In all, this was a brilliant holiday experience, and in a week we were only able to scratch the surface of everything we could do on site and in the region. We are already talking about going back for two weeks next year.

my husband and I have just had the most fabulous time at this camp site booking with Euro camp ! a beautiful place set in a stunning woodland location ! our mobile home was clean and comfortable and had everything we needed for our stay and that was due to the hard work the reps do to keep these mobile homes ready for the next occupant so well done your work is appreciated !
There are so many places to go for a walk through the woods and all with coloured arrows to show you the correct paths to take ! we had many a long walk let me tell you ? the pool is a nice size and has a covered pool for the "little ones" to use and plenty of loungers to relax on ! there's also a huge playground which is very well equipped for the children to use and a big area where they can run around safely and get rid of some energy ! a nice shop for any items you need and also a nice bar area where reasonably priced food is available !!
Lots of places to go and visit and the Zoo in Le Sable is a must ! a fantastic day out for the family and very reasonable price wise !
this is classed as a 4* site and well deserves this rating ! a very friendly site ! with lots of privacy between mobile homes as they are not all crammed together ! a strict "Quiet time" is observed between 10pm and 7am so no loud noises keeping you up !
all in all we had a lovely time and can definitely recommend this site to you for a camping holiday !! Well done Eurocamp !

We stayed at La Garangeoire for a week in May with Europarcs in a 3 bed caravan. The site was lovely, the caravans were nicely spread out and well maintained. The camping pitches seemed large as well with good toilets etc. We were there as a couple so didn't use many of the facilities, but there seemed to be lots to do for kids . There is a lake for fishing and boating and a great pool complex with water slides. There is a pool bar and restaurant but as we were there in low season they were quite quiet. There is also a shop which seemed to be quite well stocked, although we went to the local Lidl in Aizenay or La Mothe Achard to stock up on our food etc.
The reception staff were very welcoming and helpful regarding places to visit etc and overall it was a nice week. The owner of the chateau came round one day to trim the hedges and the family were eating in the restaurant one day , a good sign.
The Europarcs reps Ian and Carol were lovely and very welcoming.
The weather was pretty awful, with monsoon type rain most days we were there but apart from that it was good.
Places we visited included Nantes (to see the Machines D'Ile) , La Roche Sur Yon, Les Sables D'Olonne and the coast. They were probably lovely in decent weather but not great in the weather we had.
It's unlikely we will return to this part of France, but if we did then I would stay here again.
