Having stayed here in August 2017 and loving the well appointed Gite and superbly quiet location we decided to take a 10 day break in March.
Samantha & Alan where once again exceptional hosts. The price included a daily net of firewood. The fire made the gite lovely warm and cosy.
So once again we enjoyed a super relaxing break *****
We stayed at Fluer de Lys, a beautifully appointed gite. The gite is located in a fantastically quiet part of Finistere and we enjoyed perfect relaxed evening bbq's in the small garden.
The gite, although quietly located is central to a good selection of towns, supermarkets, coast and walking areas.
The gite has everything you need. Superb jacuzzi bath, lovely comfortable bed and a super comfy couch. Not that we spent too much time in doors.
The host family are lovely, not intrusive but there or there about if needed.
We loved this so much, we've booked again.
We were full of expectation when we booked this gite, having chosen it for it's description of being romantic and luxurious. Imagine our disappointment when we arrived to find a very cold appartment, with only the tiniest bit of heat on in the bathroom. The place was nice, clean and obviously new, but luxurious? The only things we found luxurious were the Jacuzzi bath (which we had to use to get warmed up!!) and the bed sheets which were very soft. The bed, with all its ostentatious carving, was not particularly comfortable - even an IKEA mattrass would've been an improvement. The welcome food pack was 2 packet baguettes which we had to try to bake in the oven, but we never were able to get them brown- we noticed that others have had the same problems of the oven not working well. There was a bottle of wine and some butter and cheese, which were welcome along with fresh eggs. Samantha was super friendly and told us to ask her anything if we needed to, but when I went to ask about the heat the next day she said they didn't turn on the heat in the summer and we were not offered any form of heat whatsoever - not even logs for the fire. She grudgingly agreed to put the heat on some, but only for a day or two!! And after 2 more days we actually felt some warmth from the storage heater in the living room - but not in the bedroom.
I hate to write negative criticism about anything, but feel if you advertise your place as luxurious and romantic you should surely want to make sure your guests are really comfortable and try to accommodate their needs. We've stayed in a lot of vacation rentals so can easily compare places - and with a little effort this really could become the romantic luxurious place it is meant to be.
We have had a wonderful two week holiday here. The accommodation is superb, really spacious and airy with an amazing ornately carved bed and large corner bath. There is also a power shower, well equipped kitchen and all mod cons. Samantha is an excellent host and supplied wine and breakfast items on arrival. Fresh eggs are available from her hens and it was nice to see the pony, dogs and cats. The setting is beautiful- really peaceful and quiet. It's ideal for chilling out and a true romantic retreat. Sam is lovely to chat to and happy to advise on walks, restaurants, etc. We had our own private garden which was lovely to relax in. There are lots of interesting places to visit nearby although you do need a car. We particularly liked walking through the enchanted forest at Huelgoat, visiting the chateau de Trevenez near Chateauneuf du faou and sunbathing on the beach at St Nic. Whatever the weather there is something to do.
Thank you so much Samantha we really enjoyed our stay. We are going home truly refreshed and relaxed. Would love to come again!
Our first visit to Brittany and we will certainly be back. The accommodation was lovely, very comfortable and provided us with everything we needed for a relaxing holiday.Sam and Alan were at hand if we needed anything.
The gite was in a great location to explore the many villages, markets and the Brest Nante canal. A wonderful retreat.
We have just returned from a week's stay in the Fleur de Lys gite. It was a wonderfully appointed accommodation with every possible home comfort. Samantha was very welcoming and helpful. Would thoroughly recommend this gite and the area.
Just back from our second fantastic holiday here - we stayed last year in the Versailles apartment (beautiful) and loved it so much that we returned this year to stay in the (even nicer!) Fleur-de-Lys cottage. If you're looking for a relaxing break from a busy life, I can't recommend this place highly enough. As others have commented, Sam and Alan are friendly and helpful - always on hand if you need anything but otherwise will leave you in peace to enjoy your holiday. The cottage and little garden area are comfortable enough that you could spend days just lazing around doing nothing, but equally you could find a lovely new town, village or beach to explore every day and barely scratch the surface of this beautiful region. The only drawback is you won't want to go home!
