Sifnos was our final stop on our island hopping holiday in July 2012, upon arrival at the port we had to get a taxi to Ano Petali (Appollonia), the taxi cost around €9 or so. Upon arrival we were taken to our room, and some minutes later Mrs. Geronti scuttled along with a tray of cakes and juice to welcome us, which was nice.
The room was nice, clean and spacious. The only downside was the abundance of mosquitoes in our room (apparently there's a lot of them in and around Sifnos), i think we counted 40 or so in our room, this was soon remedied by a can of teza from the local shop. The rooms have a kind of open, shared balcony with a very good view out across Apollonia that you can enjoy. The air con is very effiecient, got the room cold very quickly.
To get into town for either the bus to the beaches or to wander around time involved a hike of around 157 steps (we did actually count them at one time but I've now forgotten the exact number), bear in mind this does takes some doing but it is fun, not with two suitcases in hand though!
All beaches require a bus ride to get to them, bus fare is relatively cheap and the buses run every hour to the main ones. We preferred the beach at the port (Kamares) as it was long and the sea was shallow, also there was a stunning gyros place there which served very large beers too and gyros' at around €2 each!
The main town near Geronti Pension was down the many stairs and through a very small alley that deceptively hid the winding streets of Apollonia. There are plenty of bars in the area yet we found the restaurants to be a bit of a disappointment. There is a very nice bakery just down from the pension, that serves a wide variety of different savory and sweet pastries and cakes.
One highlight of our holiday was my girlfriends birthday when the Geronti family bought a fruit sponge cake and a bottle of white wine, as well as a card, and put it out onto the terrace with candles; this was a nice touch and thoroughly appreciated.
Overall, this was a nice accommodation in a nice part of Sifnos, if we ever go back to the island we would definitely stay again.
