Keleti International Resort

Keleti Resort sits at a great spot, overlooking a coral reef and from there to the open ocean. It has a small private beach perfect for snorkelling during low tide or just wading around or digging in the sand, with blowholes just behind it. The best thing about the place are the really lovely, warm and helpful people running it, and the restaurant food was great, too. We overnighted there coming into Tomga, and spent a full day between a domestic and international flight going out from Tonga. The accommodation feels a bit run down (or not yet done up). But maybe that's a good thing. Mozzies were a bit of a nuisance, take an insect repellent, and take care for the night.

The staff were extremely friendly and very helpful. The rooms were clean and the resort location was amazing! We even saw whales swimming by from one of the outside tables at the resort which over looks the ocean. The food in the resort restaurant was lovely and I honestly can't say a bad thing about this place. I would highly recommend Keleti Resort to anyone and I would definitely go back if I return to Tonga in the future.

We initially booked just 1 night at Keleti but ended up staying 4 - it's such a wonderful spot! It's very reasonably priced and the accommodation is just steps from the ocean,, with a small private beach and great snorkelling right below the restaurant. Vini and Liz are really sweet and went out of their way to show us Tongan culture, including inviting us to their church and a community feast. We saw humpback whales from our patio!
Being able to hire the bikes and ride into Nuku'olofa ( 8 km each way) was great, as the resort is a bit isolated. The nearest shop is about 2.5 kms away, so be prepared to take your meals in the restaurant (which is a bit expensive) or stock up before you get there.
The location is really stunning, perfect for people who want to get away from it all. It's very relaxing to fall asleep to the sound of the ocean! The staff are really friendly and were great about preparing vegetarian meals that weren't on the menu.
We really enjoyed our stay and would highly recommend a visit to Keleti for travellers who prefer character to luxury. It was a better value and location than anywhere else we stayed in Tonga.

We headed down to Keleti resort as we had read the reviews saying it was a nice spot for lunch and a bit of a swim at the beach down below. We were absolutely blown away when we arrived. The view from the restaurant is simply stunning and we could've sat there all day watching all the waves crashing onto the rocks. We were the only ones at the restaurant and the entire resort seemed pretty deserted at the time which was a bit of a shame as it is in such a desirable location. The elevation also means they have a great view of any whales going by, and we were lucky enough to watch one swimming just beyond the reef.

Lunch itself was excellent and very reasonably priced. I had fish and chips whilst my partner had some french toast. After enjoying the view for a while longer we headed down to the beach which was even more special. The crashing waves were so close and the water itself was beautiful. We were the only ones there so the privacy added to the experience. We had timed our visit for high tide as we heard that was the best time to go, but with the strong waves and movement of the water we didn't stay in for very long for a swim as we didn't feel too safe. Confident swimmers probably wouldn't have a problem.

We definitely feel going for lunch and then a trip down to the beach is must-do whilst in Tonga.

We were recommended the keleti resort, because we had to overnight in Tonga Tapu on our way to Haapai. After initial enquiries that relied to very promptly we booked all all out transfers were organised for us very efficiently. It's about a half hour drive from the airport. Initial impressions were that it was a little run down, but work is being done to improve things and we couldn't fault the service and friendly helpful staff.
The rooms were clean and tidy and the beds comfy.
The beach and outlying rocks are spectacular, with stacks of pancake rocks and busy blow holes, but just 5 minutes walk to the left takes you to a beautiful sandy beach and lagoon for swimming.

In response to some of the other reviews - we stayed at Keleti for 4 nights in July and never saw a single cockroach the whole time. Also we enjoyed swimming and snorkeling at the tiny private beach. Low or mid tide is best. The rocks are great and Vini and his family were really friendly and helpful.

We stayed at Keleti in July, and whilst the weather wasn't to good a great time was had by all.
Keleti is by no means a 5 star destination but what it lacks in luxury and amenities it makes up in charm and great people. Vini the owner went to great trouble to organise a comprehensive tour of Tongatapu by enlisting the help of his sister Pina who makes a great tour guide and showed us a great day out.
Our room was basic, but it was bright, airy and above all clean. the separate Fale's were spaced well so you were not disturbed by other guests, and a short walk from the main guest area. Eating breakfast on the balcony over looking the surrounding reef revealed one of Tonga's jewels...... Humpback Whales breaching and tail slapping less than 500 metres from the breakfast table, pretty special.
