“Secret Harbour: Great location-Beware of Phone!”
3 of 5 bubbles Reviewed 11 June 2007

Nice beach and good location. Close to Red Hook and the ferry to St. John. Condo's are very tired and simple. If you're looking for upscale you won't find it here. The kitchen was a big help as we cooked some and everything worked.
Most staff were helpful when you got used to their Island attitude.
(don't these people know they would be unemployed if we weren't there?)
Beware: We used our room phones with our phone card purchased through orbizs and had a $100 charge as we checked out! Front desk lady claims it was AT&T. It was niether them or my phone card. The reciept for the phone bill simply has our calls made. She couldn't confirm who had charged me? My advise: don't use their phone.
If you want a quiet, cleanish, place at reasonable price with nice views this is not a bad place to stay.

My wife and I stayed at Secret Harbor Resort (SHR) near Sapphire Bay in St. Thomas last June for several nights. The resort has an excellent beach front with lounge chairs, palm trees and snorkeling on site, as well as boat trips that can be commissioned without leaving the resort. The restaurant on property (I think it was called Blue Moon?) was excellent, although a little pricey, but breakfast and lunch were excellent (we found a coupon book nearby that helped with some two for ones).

Finding the SHR is the hardest part. You will need a rental car, as Sapphire Bay is across the island from the airport. Get lots and lots of directions, and keep the phone number of the resort on your phone. (We found that AT&T/Cingular works fine on the island.)

Since you are so close to Red Hook, you can catch the ferry for an excursion to St. John - highly recommended, although I would book an excursion if you are not familiar with St. John. The driving there is crazy!

The rooms at SHR were very nice - older, renovated, but certainly 3 star. If you are looking for 4 or 5-star then you'll probably wind up at the Ritz Carleton and pay a lot more. SHR also has an excellent pool that has a beautiful view of the ocean, with hot tub as well.

Poolside bar was very nice also. Once you find the place, I think you'll enjoy SHR!

My fiancee and I decided to get married in St. Thomas, and our families came down for the ceremony and stayed to make a vacation out of it. All 30 of us stayed at Secret Harbour in various rooms, and not one person had a complaint about any thing in the rooms. (Our ages ranged from 2 to 87.) The rooms were clean and well stocked (with towels, pillows blankets, etc) and each decorated in its own style making the resort more homey.

We all ate breakfast and lunch in the rooms and ate dinners out. The kitchens had all the basics, with the basics and there is a grocery store just a few minutes away) . Blue Moon, the restaurant at the hotel was good. We had several dinners there, and while a little on the pricey side, and not having the largest portions, the quality of the food was very good. They also handled our rehearsal lunch, and it could not have gone better. Kudos to the staff.

The beach was beautiful - quiet and relaxing, and the water and snorkeling was amazing. (Make sure to save an afternoon for a long nap in the hammock.) Each afternoon we would get a very short rain shower, but they ended as quickly as they came, and always left us with a rainbow.

My husband and I are planning to go back for our anniversary, and we've already decided to stay at Secret Harbour. We wouldn't even consider staying anywhere else.

I researched a place to stay that was close to the Marina where we were chartering a yacht. We only stayed one night. We were in a beach front unit which I would highly reccomend. Our unit was a studio with a kitchen. The property is about 30 years old and our unit was not updated. It was old and dated but clean and we had a beautiful view that looked over the beach on the third floor I really liked being up a little. Every unit is different if I were ever going to stay there I would call the resort directly and ask for a newly redone unit.

The setting is very quiet and the one meal we had was good. This property is a prime location the beach is pristine with hardly anyone on it. If you like a quiet laid back atmosphere this is the place for you.

Secret Harbour is made up of 64 individually-owned condos that the hotel rents out. Each condo is either right on the beach or up a hill
with great views of the water. Each condo has a complete kitchen and a balcony.

The resort has a restaurant, a nice pool (that no one uses), and lovely tropical plants everywhere. It has a convenience store and a little dive shop that never seemed to be open.

But the absolute best thing about the resort is the beach, which has white sand and is right on a little reef. We saw sea turtles, rays, tons of fish (including parrot and baracuda). All right on the resort's beach. Incredible.

We found the staff very friendly. We LOVED the Secret Harbour and highly recommend it.

  • Liked — The snorkeling and the calm beach
  • Disliked — The bed was really hard.

Secret Harbor is a wonderful small property and is right on the beach...something you don't get at the four and five star hotels in the area. Note that these are individually owened condos so each one will have different furniture and amenitites.

The snorkling is wonderful and saw rays and turtles. It's a great small beach and one of the best places to snorkle. The Blue Moon Restuarant was great. Excellent service and very friendly staff.

You can't get any better than this if you want a beach front hotel. I would choose this property over any other hotel on the island and would highly recommend this for families as well.

My husband and I stayed here 2 nights (3/7 to 3/9) before departing for St. John and enjoyed the casual atmosphere, beautiful view and lovely accommodations. We had booked a one bedroom but upon checking in, were given a spacious two bed/two bath unit that was nicely furnished and exceeded our expectations. Had a great meal in the Blue Moon restaurant one night, breakfasts were also very good. Lunch was a bit lackluster although the conch fritters were fine. Resort staff was mostly very friendly and helpful. Our unit was close to the pool which we enjoyed in near solitude (except for a large iguana who came down the pool steps to cool off). Grounds and beach area were well kept. All in all, an enjoyable stay and we would definitely return.
