try to avoid this during the tourist season. Gets very busy but well worth a visit, and take plently of fluids as it gets very hot in the summer (approximately mid 30s)

This place is definitely for castle and history lovers. The interior of the castle is right from medieval movie and collection of arms by Franz Ferdinant is simply outstanding and very rich. Well worth the half day trip and the tour, you won't be dissapointed. To get the tickets you would need to get to castle inner yeard and then take the guided tour.
One of the best preserved castles in Europe, don't miss it.

We drove to the castle from Prague in winter. It was a nice drive not too long. The castle is spectacular, very well. Drained and loafed with art and history. The armory room and the hunting trophies are astonishing. The restaurant in the castle was simple yet so good. It was the best meal we had on our entire trip. Highly recommended!

Communication was difficult as we found no one who understood any English. The tours were in Czech and while they do have audio which is helpful, the audio description ended long before the guide finished speaking. The interior of the castle was lovely particularly the chapel and learning more about Franz Ferdinand was very interesting. his collection of armour and weapons was magnificent. Perhaps it was the time of year but the rose gardens were bedraggled and there was an air about the gardens that spoke to financial difficulty. Behind the castle on the way to the gardens, they have an area where live birds of prey are kept shackled on a very short tether. Many of these magnificent birds were trying to fly and were calling out. We found it very distressing.

I have been to Konopiste twice. Both times by day trip on Martin Tours, they depart in front of the Municipal House. I travel a lot arounnd the CR by bus or train solo, but these tours are well worth the money and are painless and stress free. They do not allow you to take pictures inside the castle, but thats a small negative. The arms collection that Franz Ferdinand had is unequaled anywhere in my book. Many are in a nuseum at the Hofburg in Vienna also. There are so many stuffed animals from all over the world covering the walls, it is easy to see what his past time was. This is a good day trip, into the quiet Czech countryside. The tour stops at the Kozel brewery as well. Good day trip Czech it out if you are looking to get out of Prague for a day. The trip there takes about 6 hours maybe from Prague by bus, the tour, brewery tour, and return.
