Stayed here towards the end of April 2012. As can be expected with a heritage listed property, there was no elevator which I already knew about. However when I booked I specifically asked in the email if they could assist us to the room with our bags as we had booked the castle view suite on the 3rd floor. I was assured in the reply that this would not be a problem.

On arrival there was a girl at the counter who was very grumpy and unfriendly and when I asked for help with the bags I was told "no help. there is only me." As my husband and I had been travelling Europe for several weeks, we had larger sized luggage and it took the two of us 3 trips up and down the 3 winding flights of stairs to be able to get the bags up there. (we repeated this exercise 2 days later when we left). We never got to see the manager (who was apparently away) to complain about the service.

Once we got there, the room was quite good and the views were wonderful towards the Castle and Tower.

The breakfast which was included was fairly ordinary, and the staff in the cafe at the back of the hotel (where breakfast is served) had the same demeanour as their colleague at the front desk.

The hotel is in a great location in the centre of town. Walking around the town and castle is quite simple. We arrived by car transfer from Prague which took us directly to the door. I would not relish the thought of dragging luggage along the cobble stoned streets.

On arrival I noted that they advertised that if you booked on the internet you got a 10% discount, so when we went to pay and we were asked for the full amount I mentioned this (to the same Miss Grumpy) and got the expected grumpy response, and she then grudgingly took the 10% off the amount she had requested we pay.

Overall, I would say that there are plenty of other properties in the same area, so if you are travelling early in the season as we were, pick and choose, walk in and see what response you get from the receptionist and ask to see the rooms before deciding.

Room Tip: Rooms with a castle view are best. We had room 9 with an excellent view and it was very large, but b...

this is an amazing hotel. the location is spectacular with views of the castle and river. the only downside is some of the old rooms have creepy, old time pictures, but just face them down on the desk or lock them in the safe! overall, wonderful hotel.

We stayed at the Alchymy Riverside Mon 5th+6th Sept. in room 6 with FULL castle views from our windows on the 2nd floor. It did NOT break the bank. The room was large with seating as well as sleeping areas and furnished in an Arts and Crafts style. The beds are comfortable, shower a bit splashy and breakfast adequate. This hotel is all about riverside situation and castle view both day and illuminated at night. Don't arrive by train. If you take the bus from C.Budejovice. get off at the bus station and follow the sign at the far end of the bus park, even though it appears to be nuts to walk up away from the town at first.
Finally - stay 2 nights to get maximum benefit.

Room Tip: Ask for Riverside views. Rooms 5 and 6 are good. It defeats the purpose of being there to stay in...

Stayed here only 1 night. Perfect location. Room huge, for any standards, but particularly European. View incredible. Host helped carry our luggage upstairs. Liked that you could pick the room you wanted from the website. Breakfast was good, not exceptional. Had to pay extra for espresso which didn't know until paying the bill (not a big deal; not expensive). Servers not overly friendly and had to seek them out to ask for coffee. But eating breakfast outside, along the view of the castle with the sound of the running water besides us was just outstanding and a perfect way to start the day.

Pavel was a perfect host. Thoughtful and generous with his time. The room was large and very comfortable, contemporary styling was great. Excellent location in the centre of the old town. Fantastic bathroom and lovely breakfast.

The surrounding riverside area of Cesky Krumlov is full of hotels/pensions, most boast view of the castle/tower. This one must be one of the most modern, being completely refurbished only recently. It had key-card entry/power switch, clean and new bathroom and a good size bedroom. We inspected the room before we made the decision to stay so was able to select which view we would prefer to have from lying on the bed. The downside is no lift for the ~40kg luggage but then I bet most other pensions around had no lift.

The service was exceptional with the manager eager to help out with regards to every aspect of our request. We felt very at home indeed. We enjoyed the included buffet breakfast; it had only a small selection of hot and cold food but it was very pleasant nonetheless. It was close to most tourist attraction and at night fall while some tourists walked to the riverbank underneath the hills, we stayed atop of them in the comfort of our room enjoying the spectacular view.

I think this hotel is still on the improve: it seemed at time short-staffed, having to manage a cafe/restaurant on site, the mini-bar at the room we stayed had empty bottles not restocked and the fridge initially wasn't functional. The manager needed to come up to our room to do some maintenance a couple of time.

Overall, we thoroughly enjoyed the view and the much modern facilities, especially having stayed at another accommodation here in Cesky Krumlov, the comparative value of this hotel was exceptional.
