We had a wonderful 2-night stay in Pension Barbakan. Fantastic location. Really friendly receptionist who spoke fluent English. We were fortunate enough to have a car park directly in front of the main building. Highly recommend.

Room Tip: We had a room to the rear of the hotel. Beautiful view, and no problems with noise :). An early mor...

There is maybe a hundred hotels and B&B in Cesky Krumlov. Most of them are very good and considering the extend of downtown, all close to the castle. This one is in my point of view one of the best value locations, because it's directly opposite (over the creek) to Hotel Ruze, with no doubt the most exclusive one in CK. You can drive right there (unlike the "real" downtown places) and with some luck, even park in front of the entrance (just 3 places available!). Rooms are nice and well fitted into this lovely old houses, remember all of the are UNESCO protected. Breakfast was nice, service kind, I would return anytime.

Room Tip: Street (read castle view) rooms can be a little noisy place, but has some unique touch

Last September my mom and I stayed 2 nights at the corner unit of the 2nd floor, facing the river and bridge downstairs. We loved the room! It was spacious, nicely decorated in red color, and I loved the antique furnitures, too! The staff couldn't be more helpful and nicer... We were recommended to try a fish dish at the downstair restaurant and it was one of the BEST! Give it a try - I guarantee you wouldn't be disappointed! I can't spell the name of the dish - the staff wrote it on a piece of paper and I showed it to the waiter. :)

The B&B is well located at the entrance of this beautiful, storybook-like Cesky Krumlov. My mom and I had so much pleasure taking our time roaming around the horseshoe-shape town and admiring its beauty. Give it two days to immerse in CK's peaceful beauty. Don't forget to check out the Castle - the view from the top is stunning!

We enjoyed our 1 night stay. The room was clean, bed okay, lamps rather dim. The room we were in Number 1 looks right out on the street so it can be and was noisy. The host and hostess were very nice people and the breakfast was quite pleasant. I would definitely stay there again, in a different room.

Room Tip: I would ask for a room in the back of the house rather than up front

As always, booking sight-unseen on the internet is a bit of a gamble, and there's always the odd bad review mixed in with the good ones. But we were very happy with the result at Barbakan. Location turned out to be ideal, it's an easy walk from the bus station (how we arrived from Prague), and technically just outside the old town, but the old town is so small everything is in easy walking distance - in fact it's an advantage to be a little away from the centre and any possible late night revelry.
I've seen some good/bad comments about the staff, our host Petr couldn't have been nicer. He spoke excellent English (lived in England for some years), was full of information about where to go and what to do, and was just an interesting person to chat to. On our last morning we had to leave early for Vienna (bus picked us up at the front door!), before the scheduled breakfast time, so Petr offered to pre-pack a meal for us to take on the bus. And he even arrived early so we could have a hot coffee before we left!
The room was also very good, larger than many we stayed in on our trip in the region, and very clean and comfortable. By the time we booked there were no river-view rooms (our preference) available, but our room on the top storey still had a nice outlook over a few rooftops and local fields and hills etc.
We didn't eat in the restaurant below the Barbakan (which, despite its name, is not run by the Barbakan), but found an abundance of choice in the old town - many excellent restaurants, most very reasonably priced.
In summary, Cesky Krumlov is a great place to visit (we stayed 2 nights to give us a full day in the town), and Pension Barbakan is a great place to stay while there!

The Barbakan is a very nice hotel in a great location. It is only a couple of minutes walk to the centre of the Old Town, but far enough away to escape the crowds.

I would like to make special mention of the lady who was at the reception desk and attending the breakfast room. She made us feel so welcome. She gave us a map and pointed out the main sights and how to get there. We had a lovely dinner at an outdoor restaurant at the rear of the hotel overlooking the river.

If we ever return to Cesky Keumlov we will certainly at the Pension Barbakan again.
