It was a fantastic stay, with superb room, nice staff and great food. The breakfast is one of the best I have experienced in hotels recently.
They have a very nice pool, what they didn't tell us at check in (neither at reservation) that it can be used between 1pm and 3pm with children under 15!!!

The hotel interior is very nice, very well kept. The room is old fashioned, with eclectic furniture solutions. The staff is professional but not up to the 5 star standard. We expected more hospitatilty from a 5 star hotel staff, not just professionism. No smile, sometimes they behave like a burden to work there. We had often the feeling they living from the golden days, but not want to keep it up. Because of this the hotel has a sad atmosphare. Otherwise it was nice, the spa is very good, we loved it.

Room Tip: Ask for a no smoking room.

Beautiful, charming hotel in a picture-perfect setting. The hotel has one of the prime spots in Karlovy Vary, just where the river turns. You can thus look down the valley in two directions. Try to get a corner room in the front looking directly down the river. The hotel’s facade is in a great condition, and it is nicely lit in the evenings.

The hotel’s layout is somewhat confusing, particularly in how it connects to the adjoining Park Hotel. But it’s worth finding your way through to the casino and ballroom - both very opulent.

The hotel’s irooms - while certainly grand - are not quite as nice as the exterior. Most rooms are large with high ceilings. Some look like they were very recently refurbished, while others have a rather sober, old appearance. It seems like a bit of hit and miss. Rooms are certainly comfortable. It is just that the grandeur of the exterior overpromises a bit. Service in the hotel is good though far from perfect.

Yet these minor points of critique can quickly be forgotten. In the end, this hotel will win you over with its charm.

Room Tip: Try to get a corner room in the front looking directly down the river.

Nice building and great location, its definitely a historical jewel, and you can tell that back in time it was the favorite destination of european aristocrats.

But currently the hotel is not well maintained, rooms look a bit old, and in general most of the services do not deserve 5 stars.

Nothing beats a classic and this is certainly one: one of the iconic hotels of good old Europe, the Grand Hotel Moskva during communist times, then - albeit cinematically relocated to Montenegro: even a James Bond location (Casino Royale). Knowing that my grandparents loved holidaying here, I was rather thrilled to finally experience it myself...
The entrance still has the old flair, but many of the common rooms are cluttered with tasteless furniture: a 90s TV set, items displayed for sale and rather strange plants. The restaurant and especially the ballroom are terrific: restored to its old charm - truly splendid.
The hotel rooms however, speak a different language: as if a Babushka from some remote verrry Eastern village was chosen as the interior designer. Wallpapers with roses, chairs with roses and cushions with roses (all different designs, of course). Cheap 90s wooden furniture and a small (color) TV. A pity as the grandeur of the architecture could have made an incredible room. Only the presidential suite (where I, after a string of highly unlikely events, ended up sleeping on the rather comfortable couch in the living room) utilised the building's magnificence to its fullest.
The service? Well, if you have been to Thailand, you will know that something such as a 'service mentality' does exist...The Czech mentality is at the other end of this very dimension. Pupp service, however, is surprisingly good, making the well-travelled guest only think about going berserk about once a day. There are limits to Pupp hospitality, though: for an unknown reason, the newly-renovated spa only opens at 4 pm and if you have breakfast included in your rate and decide to have it in your room, you have to pay it extra (not only a room service charge but the entire meal plus room service charge).
Ah, but you do get an idea of the beautiful old world, and an idea it remains.

Room Tip: Chose the old part of the building - that is the real Pupp!
