The hotel was probably a very grand hotel in its heyday. The communal areas are a little shabby, but my room had recently been refurbished very well. It was extremely clean and comfortable and the decor matched the building and style of the property. The location of the hotel in unbeatable, on the edge of the old town only 2 minutes walk from the main square and the right side of the city for access to the train station which is a 10 minute walk away. The reception staff were polite and the breakfast was pretty good by eastern European standards. All in all for the price of €51 a night a very good choice.

We stayed at the Hotel Continental for 3 nights while on vacation. Centrally located just one block from the main square and within walking distance to the Pilsner Urquell Brewery, we could walk everywhere. A classic/ historic European hotel - feels like you are in a movie. Down comforters, crisp clean sheets and comfortable rooms - newly refinished bathrooms with great water pressure. Free WiFi available in the rooms, nice breakfast, bar/lounge and good restaurant. Easy walking to a variety of restaurants and attractions.

This was probably the most interesting of the hotels we found on our one-week road trip in early March, 2009. When we checked in, we had parked in a lot nearby, and after returning to the lot for the luggage, a cheerful older man in a faded blue car stopped next to us and offered to take our bags for us. Not knowing who he was, we waved him off and wheeled the bags back to the hotel ourselves - and discovered after arriving that he had been sent out to assist; we now saw the hand-lettered hotel sign behind his windshield. Afterwards, he led me in his car to a small, locked and fenced-in lot a few blocks from the hotel for secure parking, and then drove me back to the hotel.

In the hotel's better days, a number of WWII American generals, Jack Benny, and John Malkovich were guests, and the nice lady at the desk gave me a copy of a 1990's news article from Stars and Stripes that covered the hotel and its owners' history through WWII and the communist era to the return of the hotel to the family. When we were there, the hallways were being renovated (new carpeting and painting) - but this didn't seem to cause any problems for guests. The room was large and comfortable (also a large bath), "old-fashioned" but well furnished - with the usual, single bedside lamp that doesn't work and seems to follow me around the world. Also included was a small balcony which overlooked the garden area. The included breakfast was pretty much like most of the others we received at Czech hotels - cheeses, sliced meats, cereals, fruit, juices, etc. - and was good. Near the front desk there's a small lift for the lazy and baggage.

The hotel is just off Plzen's main square (good for sightseeing); and just off the other end of the square is the historic Restaurace U Salzmannu, an old "beer hall" dating from the 17th century, where we had a reasonably priced lunch and dinner. The brewery is about a 20-minute walk (great brewery tour).

The hotel's staff were extremely caring! The food was excellent. Location is very convenient. My friends and I stayed here for 3 weeks while we attended a summer program and we would definitely come back. The staff even asked us how our final exam went which was really sweet. I was very concerned after reading some of the reviews previously noted. We had no problems with the facility at all. The lady at the front desk is self conscious about her English so that could be why she appears cold. We had laptops with us. We did lock them, though.

This hotel has been owned by the same family for three generations. Though parts of the hotel are old and somewhat plain, the rooms have been remodeled and the grounds and the setting are excellent.

Most everything is within walking distance. The hotel is located only about a block from the river and the lush lawn and flowers in front of the hotel reportedly grow in a filled in moat or river channel. Restaurants with outdoor patios are within two blocks or less, as is the town square and cathedral (296 steps to the top of the bell tower as I counted them). The Pilsen brewery is just over the river, a short walk over a nearby bridge or one short streetcar stop (I took the streetcar and when I realized how close it was I walked back). The train station is about the same distance away over a different bridge perhaps three or four blocks distant.

This is a partly restored classic old hotel, but it would be boring for young people. No disco or anything like that. It has an old smoke filled bar and a plain dining room that had good food.

What I enjoyed were the people I met there, the well restored room and being close to everything. Very competent staff.

5 rooms of our group were robbed in little less than 2 hours. Incredible, no forced entry whatsoever, the thieves had time to search all of our luggage. The security camera had no tape, looked like a master key work to us. No response from their insurance company, either. Terrible experience!

This hotel was very pleasant and obviously was a top class hotel back in its hey day. We got a very spacious room with nice views outside. The bathroom and bedroom are very clean with lovely old style furniture. The elevators were very old and small, which added to the atmosphere - loved all the high roofs. The staff at the front desk were very friendly and helpful. The location was perfect, as well as the cheap rate obtained through booking.com (65 euros).

Recommended.
