This was our first visit to Prague, and we found the hotel to be very reasonably priced. It is within a 5-10 minutes walk of Wenceslas Square, and 5 minutes from the nearest underground station.
The breakfast was modest but decent. The rooms were clean and well-appointed. The free wifi was reliable and fast. The receptionists all spoke good English and were friendly and helpful.
The hotel is also reasonably convenient for a few of Prague's more popular gay night-spots, which was handy for us.

We couldn't fault this hotel. The breakfast was great, the restaurant next door excellent value with a wide choice and the location was perfect - just a few minutes away from Wenceslas Square. Staff also very helpful.

Just recently spent three nights at the Arkada while in Prague. We found this to be a good hotel. Our room was reasonably large and nice and clean. Breakfast was fine (though not the best on this trip to Europe where breakfasts can be fabulous). Location is convenient and the neighborhood quiet. We liked the fact that we were away from the hustle and bustle (and crowds!!) of center city, but could still walk to them quite easily. We also liked that this hotel is quite convenient to the train station (you can walk). English speaking visitors should know that we found we were the only English speakers on the premises (despite what Lonely Planet says about an English-speaking staff). We didn't have a problem w/ that, but some might. Also, one note ... room descriptions said there was air conditioning, but that did not appear to be so in our room. Overall, we found this to be a good hotel (although they advertise themselves as 4 stars, I'd say it's more like a very good 3). I would add, too, that Lonely Planet over-rates and over-praises it. Oh, one catch -- we could only pick up the wireless internet downstairs in the lobby -- not in our room.

Stayed for four nights with my two sisters and a girlfriend. Helpful staff quickly arranged an additional room but I did wonder why all three rooms had to be on three different floors when the hotel was not fully booked.

Rooms are spotless and beds comfortable and all linen really clean. Trouble is that they are also extremely dark with big, heavy wooden furniture and fairly dreary soft furnishings. In a way it is a minor gripe as we didn't spend much time in the rooms, but they were a little depressing to return to and, come night time, they could also be extremely noisy. Reckon the default on police cars and ambulances is for the siren to scream the minute the vehicle moves - or there's a lot of night crime in Prague . . . not sure, but be warned, if you're a light sleeper the racket from sirens could be an issue.

Whether it would be the same anywhere, I am not sure. The hotel is in a fairly rundown part of the new town, and although we never felt unsafe and it wasn't too far from Wenceslas Square, it is by no means the best hotel in terms of location. On the upside, Arkada's position, meant we did use the trams and the underground - all part of a city experience.

Finally, on the breakfast buffet - it was adequate. Not outstanding but there was always something to eat. One type of cake always seemed popular and could have been replenished more quickly. But seriously, you would have to be very fussy - or simply not hungry - if you couldn't find something that you liked.

+ Clean,
+ renovated and well-equipped,
+ friendly staff,
+ reasonable price,
+ free wifi and wired internet.

- breakfast is ok but nothing to boast about,
- the rooms are not very much sound-proof; you can hear some noise from the corridors and outside,
- the staff speak some English but not much,
- it is ~20-30 minutes walk to the town.

Stayed in Hotel Arkada for 5 nights. Room was clean ,beds comfortable. Hotel appeard to have been recently renovated and was in excellent condition. Some staff were fluent in English, others spoke limited English. All were willing to help and offer useful tips on costs for taxis, which can be a real scam in Prague. Breakfast offered several options which was mainly Czech fare. Hotel located in New Town on small quiet street- Balbinova, but a five minute walk to Wenceslaus Square. Nice location away from busy square.

When I searched for an appropriate hotel to stay for my weekend trip to Prague, I explored all kinds of accommodation with the following criteria - a safe ,clean hotel close to the main railway station. Especially as wished to walk back and across from the train station, and not waste time/money on taxis -which I'm warned are unreliable in Prague.

Let me tell you that I found 3-star hotel options available on the internet for 20-30 euros ,inclusive of breakfast !! I was tempted , but gleaning through traveler experiences specifically for those hotels didn't appear very convincing - some had bed-bugs, and some were in not-so-clean...I finally settled for a Hotel Arkada ( a 4-star property about 0.7kms from the train station) for 45 euros (inclusive of breakfast) on the HRS website. Interestingly, on the day I booked , the website of the hotel had the same room available for 90 euros (double the price!!). I wish I could explain that , and so I quickly went ahead and booked the room.

The walk from the rail station upto the National Museum ( you can also take the metro in case if you have heavy luggage - its the first station ) is about 500 metres and the Arkada is tucked away in a quiet lane(Balbinova) behind the Museum and behind the Oracle building. Of course, you run the risk of getting distracted once you reach the Museum where the huge expanse of Wescenlas Square beckons- I struggled for some time getting the direction right.

Once I reached the hotel, it was just what I expected. A very clean ,small hotel with free wireless,TV and clean sheets and bathroom. Even the toiletries were quite adequate and nice. And, once you freshen up- it takes just 4 minutes to reach the Wescenlas Square and about 15 minutes of sauntering to the majestic Old Town Square. Its so near to where the action is in Prague, and yet its far from the noise in a nondescript quiet lane...

The breakfast was adequate with scrambled eggs, sausages, different kinds of bread, tea/coffee/milk, cornflakes, yoghurt, fruit etc.

Go for the Arkada- its just 10 minutes away from the Praha n.l.
