I stayed at this hostel for 4 nights in the female only dorm. Being my first solo travel hostel i was a bit apprehensive but this hostel turned out to be fantastic. Staff were great, the other travellers were great, it was nice and quiet at night so you could sleep. The kitchen facilities are awesome and is always kept clean, laundry is cheap and beds are comfortable. The only downside was when i took the stairs at night to the third level (the elevator was in construction), halfway up the lights would turn off and i'd be walking in practically pitch black. The bathroom also doesn't have a bench to out your things but thats ok. There is not a power point to each bed so it's a first come first serve. There were 3 power points to 8 beds.

Location was excellent and really close to everything including a mini mart just downstairs and a tesco right down the road

I really felt at home towards the end and was really sad to leave. What i loved most was that they organise activities every night so if you're a solo traveller it really helps!!!

My 2 adult kids and I stayed in a 5 bed room with private bathroom on the 4th floor. We were aware of the lift being out of order at the time of booking but when we arrived we were then informed that the kitchen area was also under construction and there was no means of self catering, adding unexpected costs to our stay.
In addition to the hostels construction, there is also works going on over the road that started between 6.30 - 7.30 every morning.
Overall I was a bit disappointed (but I'm sure it will be good when everything is finished)

However the hostel is in a good central location, easy to get to bars, shops, attractions etc. Everything is walkable from here. Free wifi, clean and basic rooms. They will store your luggage for you, before and/or after you check in/out.

My friends and I stayed in a 3 bdroom w/private bathroom for 3 nights.

Pros: Good central location, easy to get to bars, shops, attractions, right off the main road. Everything is walkable from here. Helpful staff, free daily guided tours. You get to know the other hostel travellers quickly. Very strong (free) wifi connection. Clean and basic rooms. They will store your luggage for you, even after you check out.

Cons: Construction was going on the week we stayed-- VERY noisy, especially during the early mornings and throughout the day. Elevators were out of service, kitchen and common room were closed. Shower water varied between tepid to warm.

Negative:

When we arrived to the hostel we were told there was NO kitchen facilities at all - No fridge, kettle, microwave, cooker or even cutlery. This was due to a week of reconstruction in the hostel. We were not informed about this when we made our booking a week earlier. This made if difficult and expensive for us as we had to eat out all the time. We should have been warned about this as we were warned about the broken lift when we made the booking, but not the lack of kitchen.
We were told breakfast would be provided because of this but were only supplied with stale break, cheese and jam that was left out early in the morning and taken away after a while.

The hostel is located on a main street, which is handy but was extremely noisy. Loud roadworks that started at 8am made it hard to sleep, and trams and lots of people outside were constant noise. With no air con or fan, we had to have the one window in our room open at all times which made it very disturbing.

Shower facilities were a nightmare. Freezing cold water coming slowly out of a push pump shower made it horrible to use, and only having 2 showers caused a queue for the shower to form. Lack of privacy in the bathroom was also an issue.

Costing us 20 euro a night each for a 4 bedroom and shared bathroom was definitely too much to pay for what we had. Very strict on noise - definitely not a party hostel! not a social hostel at all. Would not visit this hostel again in a hurry.

Positives:
Quiet
Spacious rooms
Good location
Clean
Tesco is close by which had cheap food unlike in the rest of the city.

Room Tip: Avoid rooms on the first floor or at the front to get away from noise of streets

Dear Ciara, thanks a lot for your comment and feedback. We really decided to close our kitchen for reconstruction for last 10 days (from 15th of April till 25th of April) to provide to all customers huge and modern facilities to cook as you like. Yes you are right we have not informed you about this fact before (my fault) but we have tried to provide the best services we can without breakfast. We invited our guests for free dinner to legendary Svejk restaurant U Karla every day from 15th till 18th of Aprill and provide free basic breakfast from 19th till 25th as well as free coffee, tea, sweets and apples during whole days. I can see that most of the people understand and accept this unpleasant solution because of more comfort in future. But I can understand as well as you and I am really sorry for it. We would like to be party hostel (i am sure we are already social hostel - lets check the others reviews and tips for our events) and this was the reason why we decided to reconstructed the kitchen and common room to provide you more space and better facilities. And the reconstruction is going to the final now and in Hostel Downtown we are going to open a new & fantastic & huge & modern kitchen/common room on Friday 26th April 2013! Lets come and cook with us on Friday after a 14-day reconstruction!
---
I would like to add also some more comments: there are 4 showers on the first floor (2 for boys, 2 for girls) where we have 23 beds in total so the average is about 1 shower for 6 prs and i feel its comfortable enough for hostels accommodation / most of our rooms have private facilities so you can choose as well as these ensuite rooms. Push bottom - we have decided to use this technology because of eco-savings reason and we can see that it saves really lot of water. But its not connected with the temperature which is OK during these days (as well as the weather in Prague - fantastic 25 degree).

Yes, you are right - we are really not offering the cheapest beds (rooms) in Prague but I hope the prices are adequate for fantastic location in Old Town. Dear Ciare, I will be very happy if you will give us still one more chance to show you our hostel without any reconstruction…

Really good location, we did all the attractions walking ( old town, castle, shopping, clubs ).
IMHO you don't really need to take a bus ticket to visit Prague.

Staff was really kind and rooms were clean.
