“Decent Hostel”
4 of 5 bubbles Reviewed 24 July 2014

I had a pleasant stay at Hostel Maribou. There were some great pluses, and a few minuses but overall the hostel was fine.

The hostel is in a great location, really easy to get to old Prague by tram and and bus, and is around a 30 minute walk if you're feeling up to the exercise. Getting to the hostel from the airport requires a couple of transfers but it doesn't take too long to get there. The only thing that's a bit further away is the Prague castle, even then is super easy to get to by transport it just takes a bit longer.

The free breakfast served at the hostel from 7-11am was great, one of the better free hostel breakfasts I've had. The staff were super friendly, accommodating and helpful.

The rooms were nice and clean, however, the beds were really hard and uncomfortable. For a short stay this is fine, but I can imagine it wouldn't be nice for any more than a few days. Another issue were the bathrooms - on my floor there was only one shower and three toilets. It was sometimes a challenge to get a shower in and because so many people were using them they were not the nicest. The wifi was slow in the rooms, but it worked. It worked better in the downstairs common area.

Before going to the hostel I had read some complaints about the basement entertainment area. It was a little bit damp but it was fine to get in a couple of games of pool in the evening.

Overall, the hostel was fine for a short stay and whilst there are some downfalls I would recommend it.

This hostel was okay. Good location and easy to get to. No AC which can be difficult during nights. The staff was very helpful and knowledgable about local information which was great. Also very cheap beer!!!! Beds were okay...

Upon arrival after midnight, we were greeted by a friendly staff.

The interior were pretty unique and funky. Not the cleanest place you would come across but what to complain for the amazing price?

The 16 bed sharing room is really huge. Don't go for this type if you are a light sleeper. You will get disturbed like all the time with other bunkmates snoring or people checking in.

There is only 1 shower room and toilet for each bunk room. However, I really didn't have to wait every time I wanna use them.

My main complaint is the slow speed of WiFi which is so frustrating. To make things worse, there is not enough socket to charge up your gadgets.

The best thing is probably the free breakfast which runs from 8am to 11am. A variety of cereal, breads (toaster provided), coffee and tea were provided. It is nothing fancy but at least your stomach is full before going out to explore the city.

Tons of information about the city can be seen around the counter. The receptionist will gladly answer any queries in English to their best also.

The hostel is in Praha 3 area which by itself is not as fancy as the old town. Walking to old town will take about half an hour to 40 mins. So it is convenient to just take the bus which cost like 40 koruna one way.

The entertainment area is as mentioned, moist and smelly. During my stay there, I seldom see people hanging out there anyway.

All in all, this hostel is a no frill accommodation. If you only settle for top level comfort, book somewhere else.

Thank god this was just the last night of our trip.
The hostel looks really nice on the website and on the photos... In reality it is not.
The idea itself is really nice but there needs to be done more than a lot to make it happen.
The lounge room in the basement is terrible.
It is so humid that it stinks extremely badly.
All the computers were broken.
Free wifi was the slowest wifi I have had since years.
Staff seemed uninterested, distant and cold.
You do not get an official receipt of your payment, just a small paper with a stamp with some different company name.
Our room was dirty and was not cleaned before our stay.
The bed was full with different hairs and the floor was really dirty.
We have booked a room with garden view but actually there is no garden.
It is just the view of the park beside the hostel.
Both of us have woken up often in the night due to loud guests and loud staff.
Not recommended for light sleepers!
So what was nice? Free coffee and the kitchen.
When we asked staff what the breakfast did include he could not give a clear answer besides "uuuuh cornflakes uuuuh uuuuuh" and looked stoned.
The toilet was dirty and next morning it was not cleaned either.
We checked out as early as possible.
This hostel is a joke.

After arriving at the hostel we were welcomed by a friendly greeting and gave us some great ideas of where to go and how to get DT.
We stayted there for 4 nights mainly becuse the price was unbeatable! I regret staying in a bedroom with 16 people though becuase one guy literally snored alll night every night so i slept with headphones in my ears which wasnt allll that comfortable.
They also told us there is this big giant gold horse behind the hostel so we went to check it out. they failed to mention that you are pretty much on the top of the city and can see the whole city up there. Truly an amazing view and made Prague our favorite city we visited.
Love the cheap beer the hostel offers.. not the best but you cant complain when its like 27 czech ( 1.10? canadian) amazing!

The only downside ( which i never expereinced) was their basement its SO muggy and they allow people to smoke down there which is just gross and disappointing. All the games are down there but they need to buy a dehumidfiyer

During our Interrail tour, we booked a double room in this hostel. On arrival, we got upgraded to an ensuite room. Didn't have a free beer though. The room was clean, even though the toilet paper in the bathroom had some traces of dubtful colour. Apart from that, the room is very quiet and big. The hostel has a pub, the beer was cheap, but had a very big head. Breakfast is free. The basement consist in the social area of the hostel. We met lively people from all over the world, which provided us with good fun.
The staff was helpful, when we asked for a place to eat in the area.
On the minus side, the hostel is quite far away from the city centre (a good 40-minute walk). Apart from that, I would recommend this place.

Me and a friend stayed for four nights at hostel marabou and had very few complaints. Not a place for families (bunk beds are the order of the day) but very friendly and chilled. All the rooms were clean, there were plenty of bathrooms/showers and the reception staff were very helpful (I think the guy was called Erwin?). Also, the reception sells REALLY CHEAP beer. Smoking area downstairs is a bit of a dungeon but, in my opinion, a hostel with a smoking area, kitchen, and a bar can't be all that bad.
A bit of a walk from the centre of the town but there are regular buses or take a taxi if you are willing to haggle. The location also meant that it was really quiet.
We stayed in one of the dorms and the price was pretty good too. Highly recommended.
