Vlkova Palace
Ranked #44 of 701 Speciality Lodging in Prague
Certificate of Excellence
Reviewed 4 July 2014 via mobile

We stayed at the Vlkova Palace for three nights. Let me start by scolding those that ranked on this place because it's far from a palace. It is clear from the pictures this is not a castle, nor any sort of palace. What is clear from pictures is that you are staying in clean apartments that are well finished and suited perfectly for a stay in Prague.

My boyfriend and I received an apartment which had a two person bed (2 separate mattresses put together as found in most of Europe) and a single bed if needed. The beds were fine, nothing special, but we both slept comfortably.

The bathroom was small and definitely couldn't hold two people unless one was in the shower, but for one person it was just fine. The hot water in the shower does take a minute to kick on, so brush your teeth if need be while waiting.

The kitchen is fully equipped for your needs-- minus an oven. They supply many utensils and cooking tools. The owners also left a basket of goodies in your room, which included snacks, a bottle of water and coffee to use in the machine on the counter. They just ask that you clean up after yourself in the kitchen, which is understandable.

The area is safe and there are lots of places to eat around. The hotel is also one stop from the train station- using the 5 or 26. If you are a beer drinker take the 5 up five stops or the 26 up to Dhoula and on that street is a place called the Prague Beer Museum (not a museum but a Pub). 30 Czech craft beers on tap.

Finally, the staff was wonderful. They are not there for long on weekends, which was fine, but they leave you w a plethora of information. Exact train rides to the castle and much other useful information. They also leave their cell phone number in case of an emergency.

Overall, for those who book a $60 a night hotel you get your money's worth and more staying here.

Dear Mrs Dmama1314,

Thanks for your review.
We are Vlkova Residence as written outside our door, some websites called us vlkova Palace (for us is the same). Anyway we are happy that your stay during your Europe tour was fine. Regarding bathroom we know that our studio apartment (smaller and cheaper room) has a bathroom not so large like all other apartment in vlkova anyway is composed of shower box 90x70, window, standard sink and WC.

Best regards,

Simone and Klara

The Vlkova Palace is a great place to stay for good value basic accommodation. It's within easy reach of the centre of Prague, either via a downhill walk of about 20 minutes (to the Powder Tower) or a couple of minutes by tram.

The apartment was clean and airy with a large front bedroom with TV and 3 beds and a smaller rear bedroom with two beds and views into the courtyard. The kitchen is small but functional and the coffee machine was a godsend! The welcome pack of coffee pods, tea bags, milk and biscuits was a lovely touch.

The area is pretty good too - seems to be populated by students and there are some decent bars and restaurants around. I would recommend Restaurant Sklep for good quality local food and beer.

A couple of other tips:

When getting the tram back to the apartment from the city, if you're happy climbing a steep hill then get off the tram at Husineska. If you'r prefer to walk a little farther, then get off at Lipanska which is further up the hill and come back on yourself. A longer walk but pretty flat.

If you like a high pillow, then ask for some extra from reception when you check in. The pillows in the apartments are small and flat.

Not quite the 'Palace' that it's name suggests, Vlkova is short tram ride from the train station; but it can be a little confusing especially in the dead of the night.

The acco was quite functional, with a kitchenette and a TV in the living room. There is also a box shower in the bathroom. No receptionist - but in Prague at around 30 euros, I'm not sure if one can expect too much more.

Dear Sid42,

We thanks for your review and we regret that your expectations were not met.
Our property is a Residence (apartments) and not a hotel as so many often confuse. We are a 10/15 minute walk from the historic center or 2/3 stops by tram from the important points of the city. Hopefully in the future can stay in one of our facilities and that your expectations will be fulfilled

Stayed here for 2 nights with 2 friends at Room 31, that had 3 single beds (as per our request), clean bathroom, and a small living/dining/kitchen. Free wifi. For the price we paid (total of 124 euros), it was good value for money, no frills. A bit far from Old Town, but near the Husinecka tram stop, though it would require a 5-minute steep uphill climb. We also arranged transfers and Jan (the receptionist) and driver (didn't get his name) were eager to accommodate our needs. Note that this is not a hotel but an apartment, so there is no receptionist/staff to assist you 24/7. But overall, it was a good stay in Prague.

Short walk from city centre, but well within reach, bus stops at the end of the road too. Apartment clean, spacious, staff very helpful. Organised our airport transfers. Also made good restaurant suggestions close to apartment - better than any restaurants we went to in centre. Recommended!

We, a group of 10 lads on my stag have just got back from Prague/Vlkova Palace. Well i'll start off by saying the gaff is everything you might expect for a 4^ Clean, warm and nice. We had 3 separate rooms, 2x6, 1x2. I stayed in 1 of the 6 berth rooms which had 2 separate rooms 1 with just a double bed in the other had a double and a single. Then you have a pull out sofa in the kitchen area. As for Vlkova Palace location. It was about a 15 minute down hill walk to town. there are an abundance of restaurants, and bars within a few minutes walk. We ended up staying this way as we found a boozer that sold beer for 62p a pint, BARGAIN!!! T

Room Tip: Visit a bar called FUBOR which is only a 3 minute walk down hill. Great prices and a great couple th...

stayed at vlkova palace 4-7th october 2012. apartment is located 3 tram stops from wenceslas square with regular running trams. girl on the reception was very helpful and took the time to show us a map and give us hints and tips in terms of bureau de change and atms etc. we were in the ground floor apartment and it exceeded my expectations (for £47 euro a night) there was a double bed, single bed and sofa bed in a 2 person designated room.and the staff make up a very thoughtful welcome pack for you which consists of milk, water biscuits tea and coffee. our room opened out onto the patio area which was nice to sit and chill in. there was free wi-fi too which was a great bonus. there are an abundance of restaurants and mini supermarkets within a few mins walk. apartment is up a steep hill but if you walk towards the church the incline is less, plus you get a lovely view of the church! thoroughly enjoyed my time at vlkova and it made for a fantastic base to explore prague, would definitely stay again!! :D

Room Tip: ground floor (basement) room give u access to patio area and is very quiet
