Barcelo Old Town Praha
Ranked #89 of 646 Hotels in Prague
Certificate of Excellence
Reviewed 9 May 2011

I have been to Prague 4 times now (two business trips, one stag party and once with my partner), and have stayed in a variety of accommodation ranging from awful on the stag party to absolutely excellent with the Barcelo Hotel.

I found the Hotel Barcelo, Old Town, Prague to be one of the best hotels I have stayed in (ever!).

We travelled as a business group of 7 from 5th-8th May 2011. The hotel has to be in one of the best locations in Prague as it is conveniently only a couple of minutes walk from the old town square, but not too close to hear any noise at night.

My room (501- top floor) was fitted out to a very high standard and was big enough to have the feel of an apartment, but with all the benefits of staying in a hotel.

The staff were excellent, very helpful and always there if you needed them. Special thanks to Adela on reception for allowing me to keep my room key for an extra 1 ½ hours to keep my group’s luggage in until our airport bus arrived at 1pm.

There was free wi-fi in the hotel which I found very useful. I managed to get perfectly acceptable signal in my room on the top floor, but if you were having problems there are plenty of places around the hotel to sit out and relax with your laptop / iphone.

I did not eat at the Hotel except for the breakfast, but I found this to be to a very good standard.

Overall, I cannot recommend this hotel enough. My group have already stated that they found Prague to be one of the best cities they have been to, and combined with the Hotel Barcelo, you can be sure of having one very special and memorable city break.

We stayed four nights at the Old Town Barcelo. Location could not be better for ALL the tourist sites and the buzz of the Old Town. We walked everywhere -it's so accessible.
Staff were very professional and helpful. A technical hitch meant we stayed across the road in a 5* the first night and the staff were so apologetic, without cause, upgraded us...gave us a voucher for dinner and sent champagne to the room!! All for a slight inconvenience.
Rooms are very spacious, comfortable and spotlessly clean. Bathrooms very modern with superb shower...usual good range of toiletries.
Happy hour at the end of a tourism slog was much appreciated and needed!
We felt thet perhaps the restaurant was a bit overpriced (for us anyhow) albeit delicious, and we went in search of truly Czech food.
Overall our stay at the Old Town Barcelo made our holiday excellent and we would return in an instant and recommend the hotel.

Stayed here for 3 nights in March with a friend. Upon arrival staff were friendly and we were upgraded for free to a Junior Suite (originally booked a deluxe room via their website). Room was lovely and spacious, we had a very large living area and bedroom with ensuite bathroom. The room was spotless and well decorated, plenty of space to store luggage and there was a safe in the room. Wifi was free and available in the room - this was very helpful in planning our trip!

We found the breakfast at the hotel excellent. There was plenty to choose from - cooked breakfasts, cold meats and cheese, pastries, fruit, yoghurts etc. Breakfast was served up until 10am. Checkout was 12pm, but our flight wasn't until later in the evening. The reception staff happily accepted our bags for storage so we could enjoy another day sightseeing.

The location is great, 5 minute walk to Old town square, and a few minutes walk to the nearest metro station (Republisky). The area was very safe at night (in fact, all the areas in Prague we felt were safe) and quiet enough for a good nights sleep. Overall, I highly recommend this hotel!

Really well situated in the middle of the Old Town. Excellent service. Clean, comfortable, spacious room. A really good bed - one of the best in any hotel that we have stayed in. Good breakfast with plenty of choice. Very good free WiFi & we liked the welcoming glass of sparkling wine.Couldn't ask for anything more! We would certainly stay here again when visiting Prague. Highly recommended!

We stayed at the Barcelo Old Town in March 2011 with 6 friends for three nights and it was actually one of the finest hotels we have ever stayed in and we have stayed in some of the best hotels in every corner of the world. On arrival the staff were extremely friendly and helpful and went to great lengths to accommodate 8 middle aged experienced travellers and over four days and three nights we could not fault any aspect of this wonderful and luxurious hotel.

We went B&B and the breakfast was superb and again excellent service along with the bar in the evenings with the night staff going the extra mile. The rooms were tastefully and luxuriously decorated and very well appointed and room service was second to none. It is not often I write reviews but the experience was so good with this hotel it is on one of my returns lists and we have already highly recommended it to many friends and clients.

It is also probably the best area to stay in as well as geographically all the main attractions are on your doorstep.

I did email them beforehand to let them know we were celebrating our 30th wedding anniversary and we were greeted with champagne and chocolates along with free upgrades. We cannot thank them enough for all the trouble they went to and look forward to returning soon.

We made arrangements via extensive email conversations for our trip to Prague. We asked them to arrange two special things: 1) a pickup from the train station after our arrival on the night train from Krakow; and 2) a room with two twin beds (instead of a king or queen).

The Barcelo sent the driver to the wrong part of the train station -- instead of having him meet us in the arrivals hall (as they directed us), they told him to meet us on the platform. Worse, they told him to meet us on the platform for trains arriving from Slovakia, not from Poland. After waiting, searching and calling for more than an hour, we finally connected with our driver. On arrival at the hotel, they didn't seem to be very bothered by these mistakes. As a reminder: we arrived after traveling all night, and so we could have used much better service -- or at least a little more empathy.

When we checked into our room, we discovered that they had given us a room with a king bed, not the two twin beds they promised. We were moved to another, smaller, not-as-nice room on a lower floor, but only after having waited around for another 30 or 40 minutes to have them fix the situation. Again, the desk staff weren't very empathetic -- the attitude was somewhere between indifferent and angry. Nothing was offered to us (not even a complimentary glass of wine) to try to make up for these errors.

We might have been more understanding had we not written (and kept) a long chain of emails in which -- two months in advance of our trip -- we laid out our needs and had them confirm that they would fulfill them.

The room was fine, the location was very good, breakfast was hearty -- but the service was not good/consistent and the attitudes far from warm and welcoming.
