“Delightful Surprise”
Reviewed 21 January 2012

I recently enjoyed a visit with family in Frankfurt and built in a getaway week to Prague. I used a travel agent . They recommended Barcelo in Old Town Prague. I checked it out online. The good impression was nothing to compare to the reallity. The hotel was beautiful, the staff so professional, and the location was perfect. Room service + inhouse restaurant excellent. A++ to me. I would return and will recommend.

Room Tip: Try for a higher floor to open window and avoid street noise.

Location is fabulous, close to everything. If you go for the Christmas markets as we did, this is an excellent place. The buffet breakfast has a wide variety of all foods, although the quality is basic, still fills you up nicely though. Our bed/s were quite hard and so not the most comfortable night's sleep. I say beds because a double is two singles pushed together, which is not very nice but I find that hotels increasingly do this for couples, very irritating. Bathroom and room are lovely, this hotel is so nicely decorated. Overall, good experience and will use this hotel, and other Barcelo chain hotels again.

My wife and I arrived at Barcelo not quite sure what to expect. We went into a beautiful boutique hotel and were greeted with a free, warming glass of mulled wine (it was near Christmas).
If you want a clean, classy, lovely hotel that you look forward to going back to then look no further.
The breakfast was excellent. Everything you could want. And for the brits, also a cooked breakfast.
The hotel is literally 5 minutes walk to the Old Square and 10 minutes, once you find the short cut, to Wenceslas Square.
The bar is very modern and chic but a bit pricey. However you will find no problem finding a bar in prague!

Situated in great location for visiting the old and new parts of Prague, the hotel is also a great find. Modern, clean and stylish. Staff friendly and breakfast is one of the best we'd sampled. Restaurant evening meal also very good. Highly recommend

The Old Town hotel is situated in a great location just minutes from the heart of Prague and a great place to start exploring the city. A good selection of food at the hearty breakfast buffet sets you up for the day ahead, and then it is easy to head out and straight into the sights and sounds.

The hotel has a lot of charm as it is situated in a typically for Prague, beautiful old style building but blended with modern architecture and fittings. The lobby, bar and restaurant are welcoming and warm, whilst the rooms are very well sized, well maintained and clean. The room we were in was large with lovely high ceilings and a very welcoming place to be. The bed was sumptuous and excellent for a really good nights sleep.

What also helps to make the whole experience complete is the excellent service from all the staff at the Barcelo. From the first greeting, with free glass of sekt, they are very welcoming and then always helpful with information during the stay. They were particularly good at sorting out little problems as they arose, and in particular the front office manager Tereza Sedlakova was very helpful with our individual requests.

Overall a really pleasurable stay in a warm welcoming hotel.

The hotel is in the perfect location for exploring Prague - in the heart of the Old Town - a short walk from both Old Town Square & Wenceslas Square.
We booked a Junior Suite and were upgraded to a Deluxe Junior - the room was fantastic - 601 - it was huge and being the only one in the attic felt kind of special too.
We stayed half board which was mixed - for 2 of the nights it meant we ate off the a-la-carte menu which was fantastic - the resturant is highly recomended. However on the middle night there was a buffet which was distinctly average. Apparently they decide based on the number of half boarders whether it's worth doing a buffet.
The car to the airport was expensive - about 20% more than the taxi from the rank on the way in - in hindsight I should have taken up our inbound dirvers offer of a discounted return....but we're talking a few pounds and in the greater scheme of things no big deal.
Free wi-fi in the room work well connection was seamless & speed OK.
Overall a very enjoyable stay that exceeded my high expectations

Room Tip: If you can get 601 it's fab

We booked this Hotel direct after reading TA reviews and were not disappointed, in fact it exceeded our expectations. Prior to our visit we had written to ensure we had a bath and Barcelo had confirmed that we would have a nice room on the top floor with a bath. On booking in I confirmed that we had a bath to be told we had been upgraded. Our room was a Junior Suite and was really great in all senses; it was quality and very large (24 paces long) with beams, walk in wardrobe, bathroom and separate toilet and a large lounge area with a second TV.
Every member of staff was friendly and helpful with a greeting every time.
Breakfast was very good with vast choice - hot "English" (with Czech sausages!), fresh fruit, fresh vegetables, cold meats, choice of juices, choice of rolls and breads (with a toaster). Hot drinks were from a couple of machines with several choices and tea was available.
We eat in the Hotel restaurant on our last evening and then regretted we hadn't done so before, it was very good and not over priced with a choice of wine or beers and cocktails and special coffees.
The location of the Barcelo in really very good being two/three minutes from the old square (via a pedestrian street) with interesting shops/ restaurants.the Charles bridge is about a 15 minutes walk away through interesting streets and alley ways. One tip when walking from the hotel use the back door occasionally ans also walk done the many alley ways to find "hidden" squares with more shops, cafes and restaurants. Walking the opposite way from the Square through the Powder gate you will find a large theatre and past this is a very large modern shopping centre (Palladium).
A downside of Prague to us were the good number of tramps and vagrants some of whom pester for cash or food.
Overall - GREAT.

Room Tip: Rooms on a high room away from the lifts.
