“Great Hotel”
5 of 5 bubbles Reviewed 2 March 2011

We stayed here from Friday 25/2/11 to 1/3/11-we were greeted by a friendly receptionist & a glass of sparkling & advised that we had been upgraded to a junior suite!
First impressions were great-hotel immaculate, very friendly staff, very good breakfast buffet with as much as you could eat.Room cleaned thoroughly every day, clean towels, free wifi. Location is excellent, central to all the main sites. Would very highly recommend this hotel both for location, amenities & friendliness of staff.

We stayed to celebrate our engagement, and as a little treat to ourselves. The location of the hotel is amazing for the old town square. We used the chaffeur service from the airport and this is highly recommended.

Our room was not available on arrival, (2.30pm) which was a bit disappointing, but a glass of wine helped that. The room was amazing massive bed, nice bathroom.

The only downside was the reception staff none of whom could speak much english, which whilst I appriciate that I am in Prague, from a international hotel. This made asking for anything a real chore.

On the whole a good hotel in a nice location.

This hotel was perfectly placed for seeing Prague - everything was in reasonable walking distance. The breakfast was great - good quality and a very wide choice. The rooms were spacious and well equiped, with tea and coffee, a minibar and a safe which was free of charge. The room was quiet, and the bed extremely comfortable. You're also greeted at check in with a glass of sparkling wine, which I've never experienced before.
I'd highly recommend the hotel, and the city of Prague is beautiful. We had four days which wasn't quite long enough to do everything, so we'll definitely be going back.
One word of warning, we found some excellent bars and restaurants at very reasonable prices, but avoid the 'al fresco' tented cafe right opposite the famous clock. It charged four times the price of a beer at everywhere else we went, and then took a 15% tip without asking. Stick to the places that show the price of food and drink clearly outside. It just proved you're never to old to get fleeced!

We stayed in the Barcello from the 17th Feb 2011 for 4 days travelling with 3 other couples to celebrate a 40th and 50th birthday. The rooms were spotless and we were all located next to each other which was grea tand our room in particular was very spacious so was an ideal meeting place. We were left sparkling wine fruit and cheesecake in our rooms as a birthday suprise which was a very nice gesture. Would definately go back to that hotel again next time we visit Prague. brilliant location but no noise at in the nights. Staff all very friendly. Thanks we had a wonderful time.

We stayed at the Barcelo from 17th to 21st February. Our first impression of the hotel was that it was very modern light and airy and generally immaculate, we were greeted warmly at reception and offered a complimentary glass of local sparkling wine. Our room was on 3rd floor, like the rest of the hotel it was spotlessly clean, with a very comfortable bed (and pillows) and a modern bathroom with high quality towels and fittings. The mini bar was well stocked and not overpriced.
The buffet breakfast included a very wide choice of hot and cold options, the service was quick and efficient.
The hotel is in a superb location just a minute's walk to the main square.
We recommend booking a taxi to and from from the airport with prague-airport-transfers.co.uk, at 550 CZK each way (total 1100CZK ).
We really enjoyed our stay, the hotel is superb, we could not fault it.

My girlfriend and I stayed at the Barcelo over Valentine's weekend. We booked our trips and restaurants through PragueExperience.com, including a chaffered car (£24) to the hotel, which I'd thoroughly recommend as driving in Prague is pretty difficult.

I'm perhaps a little biased in my review, as it was Valentine's after all and we were staying in one of the 4 Grand Suites. However, the room was simply amazing, and probably bigger than my house!

The entrance hall into the suite housed wardrobes and a small hall table. moving forward, there was a bar area with the main room and bathroom leading off.

The bathroom with separate toilet was simply huge. Oddly, the windows were not frosted, so you have to leave the 15 foot blinds drawn whilst using the room. A raised hot tub and jacuzzi takes centre stage in the centre of the room, with an walk-in-walk-out wet shower room on one of the walls. The his and hers sink unit completes the functional aspects.

The hotel leave candles set up for you around the jacuzzi, and we relaxed amongst the bubbles before going out each evening.

Onto the main room, split into two by a wardrobe/furniture unit. On one side is the large, comfortable bed which overlooks the balcony. We visited in winter, but I can imagine it must be brilliant having the French windows open and listen to the tourists buzzing around below.

Next to the bed is a 4-seat round table, then a writing desk. The other half of the room is taken up with sofas and chairs nestled around a coffee table, ideal if you want to host your own in-room party.

There's a small CD player, but no IPOD connection which was a shame. The room is very large, and somewhat on the cold side. The air conditioning had a heat setting, but seemed to have a mind of it's own, to the point where you didn't seem to be able to switch it off, so it rumbled on all night.

On a similar front, the light switches were simply annoying. Trying to work out how to dim the lights, as well as switch things off and on was insane. Many of the switches didn't seem to do anything. Still, the mini bar was amply stocked and reasonably priced, so we didn't dote on it for too long.

As for the rest of the hotel - breakfast was good, with plenty of choice between English breakfast, continental, cheeses, fruit, etc, etc. The reception and dining areas were neat and tidy, although perhaps clinical.

My mark-down for the hotel has to come with the service. For the cost, I would expect a porter for the luggage as a minimum. Most of the staff were pretty miserable, especially the restaurant girls in the morning. They're obviously underpaid and over-worked. One girl dropped a tray of dishes onto the floor, than 15 minutes later did the same again and was obviously hacked off by then. The spills that she'd made were never cleaned up, with every waiter simply walking past.

Similarly, when we checked out, we asked to leave our luggage in the Baggage room. Rather than the receptionists putting them in there (they had very little else to do), we were told to 'hold on and I'll unlock it for you'. We returned back and waited 15 minutes for the only person on reception to come off the phone to serve us. Clearly she was chatting to a friend, and didn't want to seem to hang up.

I would definitely recommend the hotel, as it's of a very high standard and located in the perfect place to explore Prague. We'll certainly end up going back there at some point, but I think I'll let my girlfriend pay next time!

Arrived on early flight and were able to check in to rooms on arrival at 10.15am, very welcoming. Room comfortable on 5th floor and split level - bed a bit too close to edge of upper level and felt with one wrong foot you could fall down steps, also had to duck down every time went round one side of bed as likely to hit head on eaves. But saying that did like the layout and style. Bed extremely comfortable. Breakfast excellent, everything you could require. Location perfect for old town only minutes for square. Would definitely return.
