Buddha-Bar Hotel Prague
Ranked #48 of 646 Hotels in Prague
Reviewed 13 July 2012

Got tired of the rain and dark skies here in Norway. So I decided to go to Prague, the most beautiful city in Central Europe. Through TripAdvisor I found that the Buddha-Bar Hotel in Prague got very good reviews, so I booked my stay there.

The hotel was amazing, all the decor and everything was so well thought through. From color schemes to bed spreads. I loved every bit of it.

And both the Siddartha Cafe/breakfast room and the real Buddha Bar blew my mind. Had my first ever sushi date in the Buddha Bar on tuesday, and loved every bit of it.

And got to see Bruce Springsteen at the Synot Tip Arena, that was a bonus.. What a show, what a venue.

Prague is really a nicer, cleaner, friendlier Paris.. It's just that simple...

I have just stayed at Buddha Bar Hotel for 7 nights and it was a great experience. Very central (less than 5 mins walk to Old Town Square and closest metro)and great rooms with fantastic funky chilled out ambience in the room. Separate room with toilet, and another huge bathroom with overhead rain shower, separate huge free-standing bath and double sinks. Even has a tv in the mirror so you can lie soaking in the tub and watch a movie! I disagree with the previous reviewer that the staff let the place down - they couldn't have been more helpful at breakfast and on the front desk. Bed was massive and very comfortable. This hotel is deservedly ranked as among the best in Prague - especially if you want a funkier and slightly different hotel experience from that offered by most of the chains.

Just returned from 5 day break in Prague to celebrate our wedding anniversary. As a treat my husband booked the Buddha Hotel as a surprise and it was well worth it. The location is superb, literally few minutes walking in either direction will take you to the majority of the major attractions. Prague is magical and we were blessed with fabulous weather too! We had pre-arranged an airport transfer with the "Prague Airport Transfer" company and this was easy, organised and well worth it. Thank you to David the return transfer driver for all his information on Prague for future visits.

On arrival at the hotel check in was calm, smooth and efficient. We were checked in by Martin who was very pleasant and professional. The whole hotel carries the dark red and buddha theme throughout. It is very mystical and you need your room card to activate the lift, which is a great idea and a comfort knowing non-residents could be walking the corridors. On exiting the lift on your designated floor the theme of the hotel continues with the corridors kept dimly lit and only the room numbers being displayed by up-lighters from the floor! Very mysterious. On entering our fabulous room the pictures from the website become real - the luxurious fabrics, the great patters and of course the signature mosaic dragon on the side of the sunken bath tub! Our bathroom also had a rainforest shower and a separte toilet with remote control beday. The room cannot be faulted and we were greeted with a complimentary box of chocolates and a welcome cocktail - very nice! The only downside, if you could call it that, was that there are so many controls for all the lights, gadgets, curtains, toilet it takes some working out, and when you want to just go to sleep after a long day and a few cocktails of course, you end spending considerable time getting frustrated not being able to switch off what you want to go off! Not a big deal, but a bit of a pain. The room temperature was a pain though. Even though we had the AC on full power, it was noisy but not effective. We heard another couple at check out refer to a similar problem. The room therefore looks amazing and whereas has lots of expensive gadgets, the AC is something that needs attention.

First morning down to breakfast greeted by lovely staff all very pleasant. We were informed about how breakfast works with the partial cold buffet (help yourself) and also the hot stuff from the menu to order. Unfortunately this is where the hotel really lets itself down. The breakfast room was about half full, there was one member of staff standing at the door meeting and greeting, about 4 other staff mulling behind the bar area and then one waitress going from table to table in robotic motion taking orders and creating a lengthy list. It became obvious the waitress was completely out of her depth and even though trying hard was getting the basics wrong. We ordered black tea, one omelette with bacon and one round of scrambeled egg with sausage. After about 40 minutes the order arrived, which was at the disgust of the guest seated next to us as he had already been waiting 45 minutes and not received his breakfast. The food was fine, but the hotel had run out of black tea so decided to give us an alternative of some herbal tea without any discussion. On questioning the waitress she tried to say we shouldn't worry as this was the most expensive tea they had and was actually better than black tea!!!! The chaos continued and in the end one couple walked out without eating and others were having to shout out to the waitress what they had ordered as she couldn't remember. The service seemed to get a little better over the next few days, or maybe we had just become accustomed to the regular show at breakfast. By the end it was quite amusing in a silly sort of way, as the waitress was so pleasant it just went over her head. In her defence we couldn't understand why they had so many staff yet there was nobody managing the situation and nobody seemed to have defined rolls. Bad crack really for a hotel of this standard and price!

After a long day sightseeing we headed to the Buddha Bar for cocktails. Staff in here again very pleasant and very helpful in reminding me what our welcome cocktail was so I could have all over again (white lotus), now my favourite cocktail and will definitely be making at home!! Since our trip was only for 5 days, Thursday to Tuesday, and our actual anniversary was on the Saturday for which we went to the opera (am-az-ing!!) we planned to eat in the Buddha Restaurant either on the Sunday or Monday. Unfortunately when we went to book on the Sunday morning we were told these are the two days of the week the main Buddha Restaurant was closed. We were massively disappointed. For a hotel of this status and sorry to mention again, but price, we couldn't believe the restaurant was closed and especially over a weekend in the summer months. Maybe this is a knock on effect from the poor service at breakfast??

All in all we had a great trip, Prague is beautiful by day and by night. The Buddha Hotel is great and could be fabulous. Reception and bar staff impecable and deserve a pat on the back. Breakfast room and waitressing needs attention. If this was rectified then the hotel would be five star. Currently the rack rate is unjustified so very glad we got a great deal. I would recommend this hotel for its location, very pleasant staff, unusual decor and overall experience. Obviously this is just my opinion and what we experienced while we were there. The daily drama at breakfast didn't spoil our trip and if anything added an extra smile to your day (once we got over the initial shock)!

Room Tip: Prague has so much to see and do, all rooms are great, spend your money on seeing the sights!

Hotel was incredible!.... it's a pitty i can't give it a 5!, it would deserve it if it would not have such employees... specially at the bar and room service.. they really can't put a breakfast together, or a simple coffee... but for the rest the hotel is simply amazing... lights, colours, music makes you rest from the moment you are coming in.... It's hard to go out and visit this amazing city after this experience. LOVED IT! ... DON'T GO WITH KIDS!...

The gorgeous decor of the whole hotel was warm, romantic and very relaxing. The staff were very friendly and level of service surpassed expectation. Their attention to detail from the thoughtful choices of lighting, gorgeous bed and music to the small delivery of chocolate to your room daily with a printed weather forecast and an exotic flower was very touching. My girlfriend and I will most likely be back. Some feedback from other guests commented on the breakfast not being up to standard but we felt this was spot on with it's choice. Overall it was like staying in a very thoughtful and romantic piece of art.

Stayed in Buddha Bar hotel in June 2012 with my entire family (we booked 8 rooms) and everyone loved it! We booked the advanced purchase rate, and my family commented how incredible the hotel was for the price. Wonderfully quiet (even though I was on the 2nd Floor), very spacious, with luxurious bedding and a great bathroom. Right next to Old Town Square and very convenient to pretty much everywhere we wanted to visit in Prague. Internet was included in the price, as was breakfast, which was always fresh and tasty with a great selection of breads, pastries, cereals, etc.

My one nit pick which has also been mentioned in other reviews (and easy to fix) is the enormous and confusing array of light switches in the room which required a ritual 2 minutes of running around trying to turn everything off every night before bed. Even the TV was nearly impossible to turn off, as it has no physical power button and the power button on the remote is unlabeled and tough to find. The showers also have no doors and thus the bathroom floor gets wet when you use them (though this is really more the maid's problem than the guests').

Room Tip: The suites are not much bigger than the deluxe rooms, so probably not worth it. Deluxe rooms are aw...

My short note relates to Siddharta Cafe of Buddha Bar Hotel in Prague and the great service I came across when organising a corporate event with these guys.
My feedback is very positive in all aspects of the organisation - the staff, the Manager, the premises.
During the organisation, SC Manager was very promt in replying and meeting our company's requirements - he was able to find the perfect fit for every request we had.
The premises were of course amazing, very professional and it wasn't a problem to re-arrange the standard layout of the room according to our expectations.
Staff was professional and able to solve any issues.

Our top clients had a great time and were enthusiastic about organising their own events with SC in the future.

Thanks a lot guys, looking forward to the next event with SC!

Best,
Adela
