“Fantastic Apartment despite the name”
5 of 5 bubbles Reviewed 6 October 2011

This apartment was recently renovated and offers huge living space. Very clean and a good kitchen on offer. The receptionists are very friendly and helpful. The location is perfect and the views of the town were nice. I would suggest they need darker / thicker curtains to block out light and noise as it is very noisy at night.

the location of the place is as excellent u can ask for . the aprtments are pretty big . the residence is just near all the old town attractions including the chapel bridge and is looking just opposite the famous clock tower.

there are plenty of cafes in the sarrounding area .the tram station is just across the area and the metro just atram station away.

Negatives: 1. the lift is very small and it needs at least two trips to get your luggage in place
2. the main supermarket Tesco is al liitle far by walking .

We booked well in advance (2 months) through Booking.com and 10 days before our departure (scheduled for Easter time) we got a call telling us that they were overbooked and had to cancel our reservation without giving us any another solution.
Booking.com also did not help us. They told us to wait for the hotel to do something about it but nothing happened. Finally 2 days before our departure Booking.com suggested an hotel. It was far from the city center and cheaper, so neither Booking.com nor Malostranska Residence would lose money. A very disappoining experience.

I can definately recommend this Residence. Wonderful location, right on the street leading towards the Charles Bridge. Was a bit worried about noise, but the Lesser Square ( Mala Strana ) is not a party part of Prague and most tourists leave around 9pm.
We had a smaller apartment but totally sufficient for a 3-day stay. Newly refurbished with modern kitchen and bathroom.
I have visited Prague many times and I am aware of many Post-Communist tourist scamps and traps but this Residence is NOT ONE OF THEM.
They offer airport transport - I recommend taking it, costs EUR 25,-. Taxi would cost you appr. the same. Advantage ; with a late arrival, reception is closed and the driver can let you into the building and your apartment.
Breakfast is offered for EUR 6,- in the nearby restaurant - we did not take this option. There is a Starbucks opposite the Residence, but it's very expensive.
I recommend using the apartment kitchen to prepare a small quick breakfast for yourself and then head towards the Old City Centre and enjoy nice breakfast and coffee in one of the old-style cafes; CAFE LOUVRE, CAFE ORIENTAL, CAFE SAVOY etc.

The Malostranska Apartments are in a beautiful old Prague building very close to Prague Castle and within a few metres of the Charles Bridge. It is a very busy street as throngs of tourists move between the Castle and the Bridge.

The building itself is very elegant and full of character but the apartment is tiny. It is listed on various sites as being a "Luxury Apartment for Two Adults" but that was hard to accept.

If you were in Prague for a visit on your own or say attending a Conference then having one of these apartments to yourself would be excellent but for two adults it was very cramped.

Nicely furnihed and decorated with good quality fittings but very small and less than comfortable for two.

On our second day our room, which faced the internal courtyard, rather than the main street was rocked to its four walls when a digging machine started up at 09.00 - the noise of this compressor would have woken you up in Berlin so whether we liked it or not we were getting on the tourist trail early that day as the noise from this machine was unbelievable.

These apartments do not have air conditioning you so you are counting on opening the windows to get some cool but that is hard with what felt like a 1000 decibel machine blasting away below you.

Old Prague itself is beautiful to look at , and to the Malostranska apartments credit all the main sights are right on your doorstep but the city is expensive and less than customer friendly city.

In fact it was a huge disappointment.

It is a long time since I have been in a city where i felt so "ripped-off" everywhere I went to.

I wonder why so many tourists flock to the place. It is beautiful and in many ways romantic but there are dozens of other European cities offering that without them fleecing you dry in the process.

Like the Malostranska apartments themselves the city is all style over substance - a huge let down if truth be told.

Room Tip: Book a bigger room if you can

We stayed at the Malostranska with a group of 12 and were extremely happy with everything and would not hesitate to stay again. The rooms were on the fourth floor and were beautifully decorated and very spacious. The location was absolutely perfect; we were a 2 minute walk from the Charles Bridge and a 10 minute walk to the castle.
The staff was very helpful and friendly and went out of their way to make our stay as pleasant as possible. The rooms were very clean with modern amenities that fit in seamlessly with the history of the building.
This hotel lived up to all the raving reviews it has received and we highly recommend it.

Not our first choice but we ended up with a much better located hotel. Right on Malostranska Namesti with plenty of restaurants and bars right on the doorstep. An easy walk to the Castle and 5 minutes to Karlov Most and The Old Town. The room was spotless, warm and imaginatively decorated to say the least! The trams passed the front of the Residence making travel to all parts of Prague effortless. Fantastic blues/jazz clubs locally too. Highly recommended.
