...Artel would be it. Not only do they have gorgeous crystal in many colors (both neo-traditional and proudly modern), not only is the shop a lovely, comfortable space and the assistants ever friendly, but nowhere else will you find such an eclectic collection of luxury, silliness, chic and charm.

I am a repeat customer and keep an Artel wish list in my head, but the rotation of displayed/available items is such that each time I go, I am charmed by something new. I have bought: glassware (bowls, glasses, a vase or two - I am especially enamored of the Finch pattern), clever/cute greeting cards, a toy or two, costume jewelry, a watercolor kit, books, and more.

Both stores are very nice (each is different) but as I am partial to Mala Strana, that's where I go. Love. It.

“Shopping at Its Best in Prague – Don’t Miss This One!”
Reviewed 30 May 2011

I lived in Prague for four years until recently. My favorite shops for unique gifts were the beautifully-designed Artel shops run by American ex-pat, Karen Feldman, who has the best eye in town for the unexpected, the traditionally sublime or pure high-end luxe. The shops are conveniently located – one near Republic Square, the other at the Castle-end of the Charles Bridge. Both shops feature Artel’s signature mouth-blown, hand-engraved Bohemian crystal in an exclusive and stylish array of gently-updated traditional patterns as well as a line of sparkling Bohemian crystal bling at very reasonable prices. In addition the shops are stocked with a changing display of antiques, decorative arts, textiles, fashion jewelry and children’s toys, all hand-picked by the owner and bearing her spot on sense of style and whimsy. Prague is awash in tacky souvenirs; so if you are looking for a beautiful gift for someone back home, or that memorable Czech-made piece for your dining room, mantelpiece or jewel box, be sure to browse both Artel shops in Prague. Customer service is not always a priority in Prague, but at Artel everything is done to make your shopping experience convenient and productive, including giftwrapping, VAT airport refund paperwork, overseas shipping arrangements, customized ordering from the factories – all efficiently performed by a personable staff. The shops also sell the best guidebook to the city and its environs: Karen Feldman’s “Prague – Artel-Style”, which is also available via Amazon. This useful and delightfully personal guide is all you will need to explore the popular and the unusual sites of this beautiful city – as they say, “Don’t leave home without it!” I miss Prague and the Artel shops so much!
