Deciding not to eat breakfast at the hotel (was a bit pricey) we wandered down the hill to start our day looking at the Church of St. Nicholas and noticed a sign out the front of this restaurant advertising breakfast (tourist trap? perhaps). Thought we would give it a shot. Coffee was great, service was good (don't expect grand service or a smile in Prague, it's not in their culture, but that is okay with me. As long as the food is good or better, price is ok, the place is clean and service is within good time and the staff aren't rude, don't expect servers to suck up to you - it doesn't really happen many places anyway). A little bit pricey but still about half the price of the hotel. Ordered a cheese omelette which comes with bread, jam and butter and a salad and my husband ordered the baltic breakfast. An omelette is an omelette (except when it's not). My husbands dish was very good also. Recommend.

My wife and I are Prague resident's and have lived here for over 40 years. In all my time in the city, I have never experienced anything like this restaurant. If you are contemplating going. Don't.

The place was quiet on our arrival, not a soul sitting inside or outside, yet there must have been around 8 members of staff on duty, mostly just kids I assume students, with no passion or care towards this restaurant.

Firstly, we were not allowed to choose where we (the customers) wanted to sit, we were basically told where to sit by an absolute joke of a head waiter, in all the time we were there he seemed more concerned about his stomach and how many cigarettes he could smoke.

So, we were sat at a dirty table. 8 members of staff, yet sat at a dirty table. Alarm bells were ringing, we should have just left immediatley, stupidly, we didn't.

I ordered a beer (No gas, tastless) cold though, so at least they got that correct. My wife ordered what she described as a 'lacklustre'Gin and Tonic. Both of which cost 145 kc. Too expensive.

Our 'waiter'came to take our order, although the way in which he was dressed, he could have been anyone.

I ordered the 'specialty' Chicken and Absinthe. My wife the Aglio Olio pasta.

After a significant wait of around twenty minutes (In which time I seen the Head waiter go for two cigarettes and the 'chef' scream and swear at least six) I mean, we were the only two customers in the restaurant, what could he be screaming about at the top of his voice? Probably the fact that he was seen smoking outside, I then seen him go back into a kitchen and work without washing his hands or wear a hat. A complete no-no.

After the 20 mins of waiting and hounding of 8 waiters our food arrived. I took one look at my wife as the food arrived. She was impressed as I was at the presentation. Dour, bland, un colourful, un appealing to the eye. Just, that'll do type attitude.

My chicken thigh was served in a brown porcelain bowl on two leaves of iceberg lettuce, that was it. A waiter then came and poured an entire 40ml shot of absinthe over my chicken and lit it. Like I was supposed to be amazed at this 'showcase'. He had poured so much alcohol over my dish that it kept burning, in doing so the waiter managed to burn lettuce. Yes, you read that correctly. Burn lettuce.I had one bite, to try it. It was disgusting, like some sore of Quail drowning in alcohol.

My wife had ordered Aglio Olio pasta, this arrived with mushrooms in it. MUSHROOMS? In aglio olio? My wife is allergic to mushrooms, to which I pointed out to the waiter, he didn't care/offer a replacement, we were just expected to get on with it.

After 'finishing eating' we asked for the bill. The waiter asked if we would like dessert or a coffee. We didn't, unsurprisingly.

When the bill came the 'waiter' then took it upon himself to tell me that tip was not included on the bill.

I then told him that a tip was at the customers discretion and if I felt the need to leave one, I would. I didn't.

We left.

As we were leaving the waiter mentioned that they had a beer garden at the back of the restaurant if we were intetrested in having a drink!!!!!!!!!

We decided out of curiousity to take a llook.

A beer garden? What it is, is, a terrace with ten tables at the back of the restaurant. This was absolutley filthy, disgustingly filthy in fact. The last place in the worls I would like to have a drink would be this restaurant.

Avoid at all costs!!

Ambience 0/5
Service1/5
Food 0.5/5
Cost 1/5
Value for money 0.25/5

I cannot stress enough, avoid, there is probably ten restaurants in the same street that would happily have you as a customer.

I m Gary wagner, tourist from england. my wife and 2 sons and me, we visited the restaurant on September 22th for lunch
We were invited to seat in beer garden, because according to the instructions of someone who looks like the "manager" or "main waiter", if we don't want to eat , just drink we cant be at front terrace then we needed to seat in the "beer garden" that not exist and is just a ugly terrace at the back part of the restaurant, then we decided to move at front against the order of the manager,
The table was dirty and the blankets that they put for cover for the cold, the same
The staff of waiters are mainly teenagers , with no experience for serve, and this start since we seat, They gave us the menu without a word, no recommendations of nothing but a "nice angry mood"
A coca cola in small glass 55 crowns, more than 2 euros, the same with a beer 45 crowns when everywhere is 30 for half littler
We select Pork knee, goulash, chicken in absinth and hamburger, their "specialities".
The food needed more than 30 minutes to come, no matter that restaurant was almost empty
When food arrive, the new problems too. We complain for the pork knee, red inside the same with hamburguer that supposed was well done, the dumplings of goulash strong like a rock and the chicken in absinth a small portion not according with the price
The the waiter, a kid, not Czech like he explain to us, was angry for each of our complains, then the manager cam and without and apologize or explain took our plates and after 15 minutes more, bring again the food that was just warmed in oven, nothing else
We asked for bread and we received a small piece "ciabatta" that cost 60 crowns
All the time, the teenager waiter came and disturbs us with personal questions like where are we from, he told us his personal life and even gave us his mail and ask my daughter for her mail and the manager almost tackle the people that walk in the street offering the menu and instead to catch people, a lot of them avoid to walk in front of restaurant
We asked for coffee, they announced Illy brand, and when the coffee came the flavour is not Illy. I work for Illy company and I know the flaavor and characteristics of the product and this one is different. The answer of the waiter was, "drink it or leave it because we don't care if you think if is Iily or no"
We didn't receive any discount or apologize for the bad service and problems with the food. I asked if was possible to talk with the chef and the answer of the waiter is that the chef don't talk with customers because he is always busy, but during our meal time, the "chef" went to smoke out of the restaurant and the image of him was like a dirty person, maybe for this the type of food that he prepare
The menu not contains pictures, tables are dirty and they lie to the people with a beer garden that simply not exist, service slow and bad quality and the EXPENSIVE
I don't know how they said tht receive an award from trip advisor, I think that trip advisor need to be sure before to give awards about conditions of certain places like this
Please tourist and readers, don't consider this place inside your options in prague or you will loose time and money
Regards
Gary

Lets be concrete, the portions are small, quality poor and prices high compare with the same touristic restaurants in the area
Staff mostly compose of kids-teenagers with no experience for serve, and the oldest one, who is Arab like he said looks like clown making jokes and trying to speak languages that he don't know and instead to be nice, disturb the clients
All the staff always require tips for the service arguing that is not include, but the service is bad and tips need to be according to the quality and service
Dirty tables and they offer a beer garden and is just an ugly and dirty terrace
