Mala Strana Carnival (masopust) with stops by the pubs
This is Czech tradition. The people come together and celebrate period before Lent. We are the group, which like Prague old center. But city center for pilgrims (this is practically race suicide), not only for the hotels and institutions.
The meet point is in U černého vola pub. The band bang out, all prepare masks, with the help the beer and shorts of course (adults) and shroving can begin. Carriage and pair go at the beginning and old car with firemen at the end. Between is variety of the mask (traditionally the bear with the bear-leader, the rip, the butcher, the death, the bride and groom, chimneyer). And the program – all masks have to come to Kampa! The first stop is by the Masaryk sculpture by Prague castle – all sing in honour of the first Czechoslovak president. And then begin schuss to Kampa, but with pub stops. My most favourite pubs are U krále brabantského and U hrocha. The staff is very pleasant. The Czech feast go on U krále brabantského (delicious headcheese=tlačenka and hash-and-crumbs sausage=jitrnice) and excellent Pilsner beer by U hrocha. The end of this hard march is below the Charles Bridge at Kampa. The hunter has to kill the bear, but the bear is so beseech … The bear stayed living, so we must meet us next year again!
