Based on the reviews we tried Il Convento last night...and are going back tonight. It's easy to find and no more than a 10 min. walk from anywhere in the Old City and seems to be poplular w/the locals. I had the Czech Menu that included the variety of wine w/each course. Splendid! And a great value. The food was outstanding....my husband had the risotto which was freshly made, rich & creamy. What a treat! Initially we were going to eat in the courtyard, but there was a loud band playing at a nearby venue that forced us inside. And we are glad we did. The interior is dark wood, romantic and our waiter, Michael, was a delight and very helpful. He spoke wonderful English and made recommendations that were spot-on! We ended our evening w/the creme brulee. Not the normal vanilla.....3 dishes of different flavors: chocolate, banana and mint. Lovely ending to a wonderful meal. Expensive? Not considering all the terrific flavors we experienced. Try it....you won't be disappointed and ask for Michael...you won't be disapointed in the service.

I picked this restaurant based on other reviews. And I have to say that nobody overrated the restaurant. From outside it doesn't look to attractive, hidden away in a city center domestic kind of building, where you expect flats or offices. However, when inside it's a absolutely gem. Both in terms of decoration and food. There's a great garden as well for outdoor dining weather permitting. The service was excellent and non-intrusive. The food was brilliant! Nothing less than brilliant. Nice sized portions and extremely rich. Only reason that I'm not giving highest rating, was the bread. A restaurant of this caliber can't server non-fresh bread - which was what I got. But again, it's definitely worth visiting the restaurant. Bon appetit.

From the outside, the building which houses Il Convento was in keeping with the surroundings, near the theatre. Inside, we found a beautiful setting for what was a delicious meal with excellent service.

After placing our order, our waitress brought a generous basket of freshly baked bread and rolls. This was closely followed by an amuse bouche with compliments of the chef and consisted of a small circle of duck terrine with micro-salad and chutney. Delicious!

We decided that two courses would be sufficient (as we had eaten a lot at lunchtime!) and so opted for main courses and deserts. The main courses arrived and were slightly different to the menu – for example, my chicken was advertised with zucchini and grilled eggplant but arrived with asparagus instead and on a bed of spaghetti – but this was not an issue for me.

Service was good, with our waitress checking on us from time to time and making a recommendation for deserts. We were both glad to heed her recommendation of the ‘special’ strawberry ravioli and the variations of crème brulee. The ravioli were filled with a strawberry mix and served with sour cream which produced a divine combination. The crème brulee variations were a trio of substantial sized dishes, each delicately flavoured. Neither recommendation disappointed us!

We would highly recommended Il Convento for a reasonably priced meal in lovely surroundings.

We found this restaurant when we were walking down the Narodni street. We said lets try it and we did not regret. The staff is excelent the food was brilliant and the garden is so pretty. Please try this place and you will be taken to another world of gastronomy.

First, the sommelier. This man loves his job. He was really keen to try and understand what we wanted. He was delighted when he found out we understood just a little about wine, and he made it his mission to provide us with the exact flavour we were after. If you want a glass, even to sit outside in the garden one evening, just go there. Pricewise, service-wise, etc., it's all unbeatable.

Food. The five course degustation was flawless in service. The cuisine was mostly French, quite rich and buttery. Everything was delicious. The overall menu though, I am told, is more international. I was shocked by the panna cotta dessert. I am not keen on sweets, but that combination of fresh mint and strawberry had me pining.

All in all...pretty damn good, but the sommelier should get some kind of award. Top class.
