Although I would not go there for the food, the food is OK and reasonably priced. The great attraction is the place itself. It epitomises central Europe in its appearance and atmosphere and the table beer service is second to none. Its always the first place I visit in Prague

We knew nothing about this restaurant when we walked in on our first night in Prague looking to try some Czech food. The waiter wasn't that effusive but then again in a lot of places in Prague you get some dour staff but that is how they are out there - it's not Los Angeles have a nice day type of place. The food was pretty good, my pork was lovely and tender and the sauce very tasty. My wife thought her meal with bread dumplings was delicious. Price wise not over the top but you do pay city centre prices as you are in the Old Square. Perhaps not one of the best restaurants in Prague but certainly not the worst

From the moment we walked in to the jarring accordion music, our group of 6 was unsure as to the quality of this so-called 'traditional' establishment.

From the outset, we were offered 'free' drinks for 80CZK, which we only narrowly avoided paying from a rather grumpy waitress. We ordered fairly standard dishes, the goulash was exceedingly below par and the Carbonara pasta was quite frankly obscene - overloaded with garlic which left 2 of us feeling sick for the rest of the day.

At the end of the meal we were given a hand written bill with more than 300CZK above the expected price. Not being able to read Czech, we at first assumed it was a service charge, but after asking the waitress we were informed that we were being charged for the accordion player and that it had been clearly stated on the menu. After inspection, this was a lie and we ended up having to pay the extra.

Thoroughly do not reccommend this restaurant.

We're suckers for cats....and we did like the food, and because we were warned by hotel staff that there would be an attempt to extort $ we were able to avoid some of the issues (example REFUSE the drink the waitress brings you that might seem gratis...nothing is grattis). Also odd, they stick tourist back in a room labelled "reserved". Just an odd place...e.g., Wouldn't have wanted to give them a credit card. But for food i had nice basilica salmon dish and hubby had czech dumplings with meat. Bread is hearty and good.

So in summary, cheap (when you pay only for what you ordered) good food and good beer.

P.s. we probably would not have gone there had we read TA reviews in advance;). But hotel staff said it was a good / cheap example of local food and beer. So if you are up for an adventure...and have cash...

Hidden fees. They overcharge you with many different ways. The waiters are extremely rude. We called the police because we had to pay things that we did not order but that was not helpful (the police actually back them up with just do not doing anything).
