“Excellent option in Prague”
Reviewed 14 June 2014 via mobile

The place is perfectly located, just beside the noise, but in an outstanding and quiet place (quite difficult to find though). The room was beyond our expectations, the service was excellent (we stayed in a first floor, there is no elevator). The weak point is the breakfast, far worst than the apartment. Very good option for a Prague first time visit.

Dear Alejomvcc,

thank you very much for your feedback!

We are very glad to hear you liked Merchant's Yard Residence so much. Usually, the expectations are higher than reality, we are flattered that the room at Merchant's Yard Residence was the opposite for you. We would appreciate more details about the breakfast, what specifically we could improve.

everything was excellent. Beautiful room with view to the Lady before Tyn with the biggest bed I have ever seen. Central location which means more noise, but 2 minute walk from Old Town Square. The espresso machine outside the room for free coffee is a great idea! Breakfast needs improvement.

This residence is perfectly situated for exploring Prague. It's just off the old town square, where the astronomical clock is. Just about everything you would want to see is within walking distance . My wife and I stayed for 7 nights, and we only used a taxi once, and never used the metro or buses. The residence is not itself a hotel, but the hotel Metamorphosis, which is across the street, acts as a surrogate. You check in there, and go to them for any queries. The front desk staff at the Metamorphosis do any excellent job. David was particularly helpful. The rooms at the Merchant's yard are very comfortable, with quality fixtures and furnishings. We were one the top floor, the third floor, which gave a view of the church on old town square from a small window. My wife was a little disappointed with the room we were in, as it didn't look like the rooms shown on the website, though I thought it had its own charm, being an attic space. The beds were comfortable, though it was not a queen or king-size bed, but rather two large singles that are pushed together. I have to say, I found this a bit annoying, as it made cuddling my wife in the middle of the night difficult to do, and I would have much preferred a standard queen or king bed. There is no room service at the merchant's yard, as it's not actually a hotel, though one night when I just wanted to eat a pizza one of the staff from the Metamorphosis actually walked me to a small pizza joint near to the hotel. As my wife has written in her review, organizing transport to and from the airport was a tad difficult. We had arranged to pay the hotel for the ride from the airport, but when we got there the driver had not been given instructions and was expecting to be paid, so we paid him. Going back to the airport, our car was either very late or didn't show up at all, but Hotel Metamorphosis was able to very quite arrange a substitute, so everything worked out fine. The one thing we though was very average about staying at the Merchant's yard was the breakfast, which was served at a restaurant across the street. The bacon and eggs they served were incredibly greasy, and everything else was pretty blah, completely fake orange juice, tepid coffee, and so on.

All in all, we enjoyed our stay at the Merchant's Yard. If the two beds were made one and a more palatable breakfast were served, I'd probably give it 5 stars.

Room Tip: If you like the rooms shown on the website, ask for one specifically.

Dear azzabazza18,
we are very glad you liked your stay at Merchant's Yard Residence!
It is great to hear that the staff at the reception was helpful and kind, that the beds were comfortable, that you liked the design of the room, and we hope you enjoyed the top floor view!
We have of course reported the confusion about the transfers to the transfer company and they promised to never repeat that. Please, accept our apology, we are happy that the staff managed to solve it.
We hope that you will visit our hotel again in future, we will do everything for your stay to be flawless! In case you have a specific wish for the room you would like to book, feel free to express it via email.
Have a lovely day.

We arranged a pick up from the airport through the hotel. It costs a bit more, but it was very professional, and was also a very nice, clean car. We had arranged to pay for this to the hotel, but that was not communicated to the driver, so we had to pay cash on arrival to the driver, who spoke very little English. Thankfully, we had managed to pick up some Czech crowns on our way out of the airport (not good rates),otherwise, we would not have been able to do this. The room was large and clean and well maintained through out our stay. I booked this hotel because we prefer to stay in smaller, more unique hotels, and I loved the look of the wooden beamed ceilings. However, the room we were given is not shown on their website. It looked like the blue curtained room, but not as well decorated, and with, well, not very interesting colors. I would say that if it matters, you should ask to see if the room you want is available. The beds, although not great for cuddling (2 beds put together) are quite comfortable, with one exception. The pillows seem quite old and are very lumpy!

The one thing that really disappointed me was the breakfast. Other reviewers have noted that it isn't that great, but we've dealt with that before. It seemed okay, if greasy, at first. However, after a couple of days my husband (and eventually me, too) started to feel gassy. This was the only place we were regularly eating meals, so we chalked it up to the greasy breakfast foods, and stuck to bread and yogurt (it got better after that).

Check in was quick and perfunctory. Otherwise, the front desk was very helpful. Note that you are in a separate building from both the front desk and the restaurant, so there is no regular contact with any hotel staff unless you call or go over. Also, the front desk is part of the Metamorphosis hotel, which is not the same as the management that we emailed to set everything up (including our rides to and from the airport). All went well until after check out. We waited for our car, which we set up via email before we arrived. However, the car never showed. The gentleman at the front desk informed us that the driver that The Merchant's management uses is different from the one that they use, and they did not have direct contact with that driver. After waiting as long as we thought prudent, he called his own driver who arrived 5-10 minutes later.

Room Tip: Ask for the room you want if it matters to you! Some are definitely better than others when it come...

Great room, location and services! The staff was extremely accommodating and knowledgable. We arrived early morning and they stored our car, showed us sites to see, booked us a tour and made us an appointment for the beer spa. The room was clean and the bed was very comfortable. I would definitely recommend this hotel to others.
