Owner description: The Old Town Hall is one of the most significant monuments in the Czech Republic. It was established in 1338 as the administrative seat for Prague's Old Town. Now, it is mainly used for the ceremonial purposes of the capital city, Prague. The historical town hall consists of a set of five medieval houses, the corner of which is adorned with a historical astronomical clock, a gothic oriel window and a massive rectangular tower. The lookout gallery on the town hall tower offers the most beautiful view of Prague. A tour of the historical halls in the Old Town Hall is a unique experience. The expensively decorated rooms date from various periods and are examples of the remarkable development of the town hall complex. The guided tours in various languages are organised in hourly intervals.

To put it very simply and cut the long story short, if you are in Prague and you do NOT visit the Old Town Hall with its world-renowned Astronomical Clock, well, you don't have the slightest idea of what you missed and may God have mercy on your soul ! :-) Seriously, this is one of the very top sightseeings in Prague (Praha) / CZ !!! The other one top sightseeing will then be, the also famous, Charles Bridge and you can always have a look at my 1000000% trust-worthy Review of the Bridge. Whilst you will be looking upwards to see the Astronomical Clock, which is attached to the Old Town Hall itself, have a small eye around for any pick-pocketers springing into (illegal) actions. Of course, as the area is being supervised by Police, the above does not usually represent a serious threat to your wealth. And do NOT leave your Camera "at home", you will regret that!

Go both during the day and at night. The restaurants are great, and every hour on the dot, a little surprise from the astronomical clock!

Great place to people watch. There are lots of people in front of the clock on the hour to watch it do its thing. Afterwards, people gravitate to the center of the square to watch the street performers.

Read about the clock or get someone to explain it to you and then watch at the top of the hour. Don't set your expectations too high and be ready for thick crowds who'll be watching along with you.

It's certainly an engineering marvel but if you're looking for a show at the top of the hour, prepare to be disappointed.

The astronomical clock tower attraction goes like this. Wait on line to buy a ticket. Walk up about 4 floors or take an elevator and then wait on another slower line to begin the ascent to the tower. Either wait on another line for the elevator to the tower or climb another 4 or 5 flights. In any event you will next find yourself in a very small space waiting on another very slow line to ultimately stand by a view and move as slowly around the tower as the slowest person on the line allows. I said to myself what if someone, heaven forbid got sick or if there was a fire, how would we get out of here. The big pay off for all this waiting was a view that was not as good as the one at the old Charles Bridge Tower.
