“nice walk”

Beautiful bridge connecting the two sides of Prague....the location of the bridge is such that you get a pictureque view of both sides of Prague. The bridge has some iconic bronze statues....although only a footbridge, it can get very busy in weekends.

“Wonderful, renovations are saving this landmark.”
5 of 5 bubbles Reviewed 12 May 2014

We visited Prague last year and a lot of the bridge was under renovation.

We went back last week and most of that has finished and the results are great.

Sympathetic repairs have made the Bridge safe and brought back parts that would otherwise be lost.

Go early or late to avoid the crowds.

For the sake of tradition and walking the famous Bridge it's a nice walk across the river to and from OLD TOWN......a variety of kiosks with handmade items from Prague....but VERY crowded

“FANTASTIC VIEWS FROM HERE..!!”
5 of 5 bubbles Reviewed 12 May 2014

First impressions were pretty good apart from the herds of grazing tourists wandering from the old town square and beyond, making this a very busy place indeed. Just beware of the pickpockets which thrive here too, as all it takes is one of those low life scum bags to ruin one's holiday by dipping your purse/wallet in a moment of complacency.
Now what this old bridge reminded me of were the Rialto bridge in Venice and the Ponte Vecchio bridge in Florence which were both way overcrowded and full of tacky souvenir shops, beggars, etc. The Iconic Charles bridge was exactly the same full off vendors, beggars and fellow tourists, all vying for a space to take photos, however the views were really good along with the famous history down the years, probably best to bring a good guide book taking your time and avoid being frog marched over the bridge by an overpriced hyper tour guide.!
For a small fee you can also climb the main gate/tower for more views at the start of the bridge only if you enjoy being in a claustrophobic space being trampled and elbowed by fellow tourists, but having said that we did enjoy our little walk over the bridge and with the looming, imposing castle above you was really worth the effort, there are also many good restaurants on the other side and well priced. Don't forget to rub the statue of Saint John Nepomuk, it's supposed to bring you luck here...!
I might add this bridge could also do with a good sand blasting to clean it up, as modern pollution has done it's work over the years..!
