We've just come back from a short trip to Prague. We stayed at Marriott from 3-6/1/2009. The rooms are spacious and clean. The bed is amazing! I've never slept better in a hotel. The location is excellent, when you are on vacation. just afew meters fron powder tower. there is a market next to the hotel and a big mall 100 meters away. We were disappointed by the poor breakfast. Not at all a 5 five hotel breakfast. And we were surprised to see different prices, to be more exact double prices, between the two hotel bars! The spa facilities were OK, though the pool water was a bit cold, for an indoor pool. I don't know how the other 5 star hotels are in Prague, but this one is more like a 4 star hotel, comparing it to others i've stayed in other countries.

Beautiful hotel in a good location but there were a few issues that, by the end of my stay, really bothered me. I stayed on a concierge floor which can usually be counted on for fairly decent snacks and drinks in the evening, but not at this Marriott. The food was of very poor quality and not appetizing at all. The drinks were fine but based on an honor system and not complimentary as I am accustomed to in a Marriott. I was ok with it and dutifully recorded my drinks and left the card at the attendant's desk. However, this apparently wasn't good enough because the bossy attendant kept going around reminding everyone it was a honor system (apparently not understanding the honor part) and insisting they wrote down what they drank on the spot. It was very insulting. The manager even swept through one evening glaring at everyone, greeting no one, like he was checking up on us, it was weird.

Internet access was another big issue. Not only was it ridiculously expensive ($33/24hrs) it wasn't included in the concierge floor rate! When I objected, I was advised that there were two computers in the concierge lounge that I was welcome to use, as if that was an acceptable alternative. There was also no wireless access in the rooms so that if you broke down and bought the internet package you were tethered by a foot-long cord to the desk. Just to add to the quirkiness, you could however take your laptop to a public area (after purchasing the package, of course) and get wireless. It would take someone smarter than me to figure out the logic behind that...

Finally, ordering a taxi through the concierge cost almost twice as much as walking a few feet outside and getting one yourself. But unless you ask, they don't tell you that they charge almost double. I ended up using the the one that the concierge ordered because he dropped his price after I refused to pay the higher rate and he proceeded to drive me to the airport at 140 MILES AN HOUR. I kid you not - it was extraordinary.

The overall impression then was that the hotel was absolutely determined to get every dime they could out of me as a guest. In this case it backfired because I became just as determined to spend as little money as possible in the hotel. Usually I would splurge on room service and spa treatments, but not this time.

Also, as a woman traveling alone, I felt that I wasn't treated with as much courtesy and respect by the female staff as I would have been if I were a man. Several of them were positively snippy with me and dismissive in a way I doubt very much they would have been with a man. I think American women tend to take (fairly) equal treatment for granted so it's a shock to run into that kind of thing.

This hotel is good if you are looking for a well located hotel (which in prague is VERY important) - you can walk to old town and all the major sites from here. It is comfortable - the rooms are nice - marriott standards etc. Only major complaint is there hotel pickup service from the airport. And i have experienced this in all 3 of my stays at this hotel. Though you organize a pickup in your hotel reservation - the driver tells you that you have to pay him in cash and that charging it to the room isn't possible. Well that is terribly unprofessional and not good for the business traveler. On the 3rd visit to this hotel i even emailed the concierge directly to explain that i do NOT want this to happen again. I was assured it wouldn't, and then it did. Just take a regular taxi when you get there....

Paid $125 nightly on Priceline for the Hotel and probably can't get a better deal anywhere for this type location. Hotel was in prime area of Prague and really was convenient to almost everything. It's a block away from the Tour Groups, blocks from the Central Square and convenient to almost all in Prague. The city itself is real pretty and the Hotel adds to the visit. Rooms were clean and the only room problems I had were the Internet charges of approx $30 a day and the housekeeper who gave out towels as if she was doing the wash herself. It became a pain to continuously ask for additional towels when it should have been there daily. The buffet breakfast is great. Food was plentiful and everything was refilled all the time. Pleasant work staff at the hotel made things so much better. Make certain you see the Marionette show Don Giovanni if in town and witness the scene in the Central Square on a Sat night. Prague is a great town and enjoy every moment as we did!
