Having been sent away from the hotel we booked because of a reservation mix-up we were directed to the Red Lion.

We stayed in the “apartment”. It was a double room with bathroom, toilet, corridor and twin room. The décor was very nice – lots of antique furniture and painted medieval wooden roof beams. There were good views of the hills and the rooms were very well heated. As the room faced the back of the building it was very quiet at night.

The bathroom had a bath which was welcome and we didn’t experience any water-pressure problems.

The hotel has some fairly steep stairs and no lift. Although not a problem for us, some people might struggle with their cases.

The location was great with a tram stop a five-minute walk below the hotel and the castle a ten-minute walk uphill.

Breakfast was good. There was a modest buffet of bread, cheese, ham, boiled eggs, cereals and fruit juice. The coffee was excellent but the fruit was slightly elderly and the juice not fresh. overall we were very happy.

I’d recommend the Red Lion: good location with rustic charm.

My friend and I just stayed at the Red Lion from mon - fri.
An unexpected treat was to be placed on the top floor with two spacious bedrooms for the price of one and excellent wiews.

Our room had a bathroom with a tub and also shower options, plenty of hot water and working fan in the bathroom.
There was cable TV / Radio and a fridge / minibar.

It felt much like having our own loft appartment - In March this was lovely - suppose it could be a bit too hot in summer.

Old, quaint and charming hotel - be aware that you need to carry your suitcases up and down all the stairs, and ours were quite heavy after some some serious shopping.
But we're in no way fit, and still managed without problem.

Friendly, but in no way 'in -your-face' staff in the reception
Be aware that reception is staffed from 07:00 - 19:00 only - so you need to call ahead if you arrive late. Guests are provided with their own set of keys - and if you, like us, share rooms but have an acute fear of losing your key and / or have somewhat different ideas of what time proper bedtime is - an extra key is provided for you.

According to my friend, the complemetary brekfast was nice.
I myself very much enjoyed the coffee machine in the reception area - excellent coffee - and you're also allowed to bring a cup to your room.

Beeing a caffeine - addict I would easily have given an extra half star for a kettle in the room and a few packets of instant coffee (again allow for a lot of stairs + lazy in the morning).
I like to sleep in - was awoken by bin-collectors a couple of times in the early morning, but when I closed the windows the sound was properly muted, and I had no prob. falling asleep again.

Also to our surprise: we apparantly had our very own brick-a-brack loving ghost living on - and lovingly furnishing- the roof :-)

I would not hesitate to book this hotel again or recommend it to someone else.

Rooms were in good state. We liked the authententic details on the ceiling and the wooden furniture. Rooms were very clean and large enough.
People at the reception are really friendly and willing to help. Breakfast was ok. Good choice and fresh fruit.

I agree on comments that hotel restaurant is not of good quality and really expensive in comparison to other restaurants in the same street.

We visited Prague in April, after a cruise down the Danube and a train ride from Budapest, Hungary. Be sure to have the hotel send a cab to the airport or train station for you; we never would have found the hotel on our own, and would still be wandering around Prague if we had not used this offer by the hotel, before our trip. Our cab driver was Thomas, and he was very helpful with information about the city, both on our trip to the hotel, and later to the airport. We had a wonderful room on the 2nd floor of the original hotel, and it was spacious and beautiful!! That said, I would advise anyone with back problems and/or a lot of luggage to get a room on ground level or in the newer Red Lion a block or so away. On our second night there, I blew out a major fuse or circuit breaker, and the maintenance guy came up at 10 PM and fixed things for us- - - so much for electrical transformers! The staff was wonderfully helpful and friendly; the receptionist even carried one of our BIG bags up the winding staircase for us. The breakfast was totally adequate, even if it was not exactly what we were used to; and we met some other travelers at breakfast, who gave us some good tips on good things to see in Prague. If you will take tram #22 when you return to the Mala Strana side of the river, and go UP to the Castle stop (unless you just LIKE walking on steep uphill streets after you've been walking ALL DAY), then you can walk Down to the hotel, which really helps! Prague is beautiful, and hopefully we can go again someday- - - there's enough to see if we could be there twice as long as we were!!

We really liked the hotel and would be back any time. Location is great, walking distance from everything. I don't think it's a four stars but rooms are charming and romantic, would recommend it!

The good - Excellent locations less than 5 minute walk to the castle. The room and bath were very clean, very spacious (room #22), nice historical character with stenciling on ceiling, the hotel was safe - they have a watchman all night at the entrance, the staff was friendly (for CZ standards), the bed was comfortable. No road or traffic noise. The restaurant for dinner was above expectations regarding quality. The complimentary breakfast was fare.

The bad - The room has no soundproofing (as you would expect for its age) so you can hear every step, voice and crying child above you. No air conditioning so sleeping can be difficult on hot nights. The restaurant is quite pricey compared to others in the area as they add on many extras. You go get a similar meal at 50-70% at nearby other restaurants. Parking through the hotel is very expensive but a 15 minute walk for reasonable parking (~$20/night) is nearby.

Not quite as good a hotel as it claims to be, but the rooms are very attractive and it is located in a nice part of the city.
The reception staff were a bit odd whenever I asked them a straight forward question, which I have no idea about why.
I won't be staying again, because unless you take a taxi everywhere you go for the whole week, your legs will be like jelly from walking up the cobbled streets everytime you want to walk back from Charles Bridge area.
I can't comment on the breakfast as I never made it down in time to try it, but I guess that is a compliment to the bed making.
They also have a laundry service and a price list is available in the room. This is a service I find particularly useful and they did a rather good job on ironing my shirts too.
Good hotel, but there are better places.

Romantic hotel Red Lion is located in an historic burgher house from the 15th century in the very centre of Prague. It lies directly on the Royal Route, only 400 metres from the Prague Castle and 500 metres from the Charles Bridge. All rooms have an enchanting view of Petrin, the Royal Route and the roofs of Mala Strana (Lesser Side) underneath the Prague Castle. They are equipped with historical furniture. In some rooms you will find the original painted wooden ceilings dating back to the 17th century. Hotel guests can enjoy lunches in the hotel restaurant with remarkable renaissance ceilings. The restaurant serves traditional Czech as well as international cuisine. Breakfast is served in the form of rich hot buffet. The pub U Cerveneho Lva invites you for a glass of wine or Pilsner beer. Its centuries old stone walls provide cool refuge from the heat in the summer, which makes the pub a perfect oasis to relax in. The bar, which dates back to 1350, is located in a lime stone cellar with Gothic vaulted ceilings. It serves a variety of hot and cold drinks. The pleasant atmosphere of the hotel patio invites our guests to relax. A limited number of parking places is available directly in front of the hotel.
