“A gem - hopefully not to be spoilt by too many visitors!”
Reviewed 18 January 2009

We arrived at around 2am, having been delayed at Heathrow for nearly 10 hours. I called the hotel before to let them know we would be late, and they confirmed that they were open 24/7 and would keep our room for us, which was great. When we got to the airport, the hotel reception gave us the number of a reliable taxi firm (dial 14014 from your mobile when you get to Prague), which was great as there are many taxis hanging around the arrival hall, and it is easy to get ripped off!

The room in the hotel was fabulous, very large, clean, recently refurbished and perfect for our stay. Beds were comfortable and the two pillows per bed was a nice touch! The bathroom was decorated to a high standard, and the toiletries supplied were nice. Breakfast was a decent continental spread, complete with some really lovely cake from a local bakery.

Location-wise, we were 5 mins away from the Old Town and Charles Bridge. Walking to the Castle / Mala Strana area probably took 20 mins, but this isn't a problem when the walk is so nice! The hotel is opposite a police station, and there are a couple of bars nearby, but we were amazed at just how quiet the hotel was at night. We were there during snow and a cold snap, but the rooms were warm and comfortable.

We've been to Prague before, and the 4 star we stayed in before wasn't a patch on the Unitas! We'd absolutely stay here again.

Prague Zoo is a must - but be prepared to walk, as it is very large and situated around a steep hill! It looks like there's a chairlift in the summer, but not in the winter. We had pleasant meals in Cowboys (Mala Strana) and U Vejvodu (Pilsner Urquell beerhall near the hotel) but be careful of the 19% tax added to your bill!

  • Liked — Large rooms, friendly staff, good breakfast - great value for money!
  • Disliked — The coffee and tea facilities - lovely location and idea, but limited options....

I absolutely loved this hotel. I would recommend it to anyone. The rooms were clean and very spacious, particularly in comparison with most European hotels. The staff was very helpful. My Mother bought some Christmas ornaments and wanted to mail them back to the U.S. but ran into trouble because no one at the post office spoke English. A member of the hotel staff took the package to the post office personally, and mailed it for us. This went above and beyond in my opinion. The hotel also has a great location and in central to almost everything in Prague. I liked this hotel so much, I am booking it again for another trip to Prague.

This place is no longer a pension and has been converted into a lovely 4 star hotel. The decor is beautiful and simple and the rooms are spacious. Also the staff are very helpful and friendly and the breakfast is incredible - I would recommend the ham and eggs!! They also serve until 11.30 at the weekend, which is great if you have overindulged the night before.

The location is very central - perfect for exploring Prague, and there are lots of lovely pubs and eateries nearby.

  • Liked — The large rooms and the breakfast
  • Disliked — Nothing!

I have stayed at this place three years ago when it was still a hostel, and the location is perfect. Its a short walk to anything you want to see in Prague, and also close to public transport if you want to see something outside Prague. There are many restaurants and bars close, and they are all really cheap (if you stay away from the old town square of course).

When I returned this time with my boyfriend, it was a natural choice to go back to Unitas, as I knew the location was good. It was of course a bonus that the hotel had been renovated, this made it more suitable for a romantic getaway! And the hotel completely exceeded my expectations.

The rooms are huge, with really nice bathrooms as well. The staff is nice and welcoming, and they are very helpful (we asked them alot for advices for restaurants, places to go, and how to get there, they never seemed to get sick of us!). The hotel is clean, and the breakfast is really nice. It is a big buffet, and you can order pancake or omelets if you like that. We didnt have any problems with there not being enough food (like the last reviewer had).

I will recommend this hotel to anyone going to Prague, loved it!

My wife and I (40`s but young at heart) have just returned from our first visit. We found the location ideal as you were in the centre of every attraction, all of which we walked to within minutes with no need for public transport (with perhaps the exception of the castle if you were less able). Charles Bridge, astronomical clock, wenclesslass square all within 15 mins slow walk. The location is peacful with no noise, and there are a few bars in the same street. Within 5 minutes walk of the hotel you will encounter several bars and restaurants catering for all tastes and reasonably priced. The best we found was a place called Blatnice at Michalska 6-8 (you simply have to go here for excellent food and so cheap. We never go anywhere twice but this time we couldn`t help ourselves!).
The Hotel is very clean with spacious rooms and comfortable beds, and superior bathrooms. The rooms are all recently decorated to a high standard and very comfortable. The down side we found with the hotel was that the towels were only changed once in 4 days (and only after we asked) and at breakfast whilst there is a very good selection they tend to let the food on offer run out totaly before replenishing it (again only after you have asked). So on our first morning we assumed that what was left out what what was available and went away dissapointed. Overall we would recommend for location and cleanliness, however be prepared to ask for things you would normally take for granted. Having said that when you do ask, the staff do provide what is requested straight away. (maybe if asked enough this will become standard service??).

  • Liked — Brilliant location and cleanliness
  • Disliked — Having to ask for things to be done which should be automatic for staff (and is in other hotels).

My wife and I stayed at the Unitas the last week of August, 2008. Pay no attention to any of the reviews prior to several months ago. This is not a pension! the Grey Nuns sold this place and it is now an excellent four star hotel in a perfect location. My travel agent had to talk me into this one because there were no accurate reviews at the time. I'm glad I listened because this is one of the best places I have ever stayed at in Europe. The newly remodeled rooms are huge, with every modern convenience including air conditioning that actually works!

The price is terrific as well, only around $170.00 per night tax included with a wonderful cooked to order full breakfast included. The staff were all helpful and spoke excellent English. It is a 10 minute walk to all the great locations in Old Town.

My only advice about our stay is to verify the fare to the train station with the cab driver. it seems that the person who picked us up wasn't a real cab driver, but probably a friend or relative of the person at the front desk who called. He tried to charge us more than what the front desk clerk said it would be, but quickly backed down when I told him my price.
Book this place before the rate goes up!

The Pension Unitas has just finished a major renovation and is simply amazing. The property is gorgeous, with massive, beautifully furnished rooms for a great price, and the location is ideal. We were shocked when we arrived, thinking we must have arrived at the wrong place. It has to be the best deal in Prague.
