We stayed at the Riverside at the end of February and could not be more pleased with our stay. We stayed in the Family Suite, which is a Riverview Suite and Standard room (with a view of the river as well, but smaller) connected with the door open. It was HUGE. We could have made it work in the Suite, but we loved the two bathrooms (excellent for families like ours: 4 yr old and 2 yr old). The staff was excellent and helped us travel via the trams and walking around. Its a great 20 minute walk up to Old Town, the Castle, everything that you need to see when visiting Prague. Go to the Black Rooster restaurant as they recommend, excellent taste of Czech cuisine. I could go on and on for this place, we loved it. If we return to Prague, this place is it!

Receptionists the most helpful and courteous at all times we have ever found,, even greater when you arrive at 11.00pm. Hotel clean with some rooms with a balcony and great view to the castle and across the river to the Old Town. Beds are very comfortable, rooms well furnished , bathroom superb with robes, good soaps etc but no slippers. We had just one breakfast which is served in the windowless basement but with a live cam feed of the exterior played on one of the walls.Food was fine but hot buffet very limited....do not pay 20 euros for breakfast...we paid 15 and that was for convenience on day 1....walk for 5 mins on the hotel side of the river and at the next bridge turn left on a main road and you will see the Restaurace Savoy and buy the Savoy special for a super meal at a great price.
It is a good 20 mins to Charles Bridge walking but very pleasant, trams are frequent either side of the river and get some 24 hour tickets from the hotel for 3 crowns.
No dining room in the hotel, it has a small bar which doubles as a lounge but closes at 12.00. We had good value in a junior suite for £76 a night...there are lots of bargains to be had in Prague at present so do not book here for silly money...it is comfortable but you will find as good at present .

Due to the abundant number of high reviews, we stayed at the hotel from 12th February with friends and my comments are in the context that this is a 5 star rated hotel..

Non of our group would recommend.

Initial impression was of a dingy exterior. This improved on entrance but only to find a very restricted area inside. One room for reception, one for bar. No lounge area and no restaurant.

The room was up to 5 star standard but insufficiently lit. Also, there were no robes or slippers - but provided on request.. House service failed to replenish bathroom items efficiently. and the simulated wooden floor was also very slippery and potentially dangerous.

To receive people, this was done in the bar, where smoking was permitted, so no option for non-smokers (I am a smoker).. Had to go and get your own ashtray most of the time. The Bar serves as meeting area, waiting point for taxis and bar. As it is so small, it often was full with people sitting at empty tables and our group could not even find a table to have a coffee sometimes.

The bar proved to be poorly staffed given that there was only one person each shift and they had to deal with room service also so disappeared for long periods of time. Because there was no restaurant, one had to resort to expensive room service. The bar is small and closed at 12pm. Tourists returning back after a night out were not even able to sit down anywhere as they closed the bar doors.

Stay in the bar after 12 drinking and you get a very irritated bar man. "i have to start again at 8am". But it was 30 minutes after 12.

We thought it was nice of them to invite us for Valentines cocktails only to find an incredible price - we thought it was a free gesture.

Breakfast. A relatively minor cold buffet selection but sufficient. If you like hot food as part of your breakfast then forget it - the hot stove was empty each day and not replenished often. The range of hot food was also limited. The biggest complaint is coffee. They serve it, but rather they don't as the semi-concious waitress spent most time staring into space. We were nevertheless clever enough to find the coffee container in the corner ourselves and from day 2 helped ourselves thereby breaking the rules.

Room service was prompt, presumably for the tips as no other service was so prompt. The food quality was poor. Avoid the hamburgers, they try to be clever and make them themselves with ground beef but consistently fail. My advice, just buy in some quality burgers and grill em!

Travel proved a scandal! The taxi's arranged by the hotel were 3 times more expensive than normal taxis (ignoring the unregulated other taxis). Even when we specified City Taxi, they sent the Hotel taxi or even another hotel's taxi. These taxis were not luxury and no different to the general taxis just 3 times more expensive. Taxis are a serious problem in Prague generally with variable pricing that produce massive differences. Our tip, always ask for City Taxis!

Our overall impression was that the hotel did not merit 5 star status, service was less than average, food poor, breakfast under par and the attempt to maximise on any possible extras to the extreme. We felt that we were victims of a small hotel conspiracy.

The only good thing was the view of the river.

Quite frankly, my group were disappointed. To us, a hotel that offers low attraction prices and kills you on the extras.

This was a great hotel. We booked for around $100 per night. The room was very clean with a modern shower and bathroom. Robes were provided also which was nice. Also, wine was left for us in the room when we checked in. The people that worked there were quite good at making recommendations close by since it isn't in the touristy area. But we found that it was a quick walk or bus ride to the centre, and it was nice that it was on the other side of the river away from the business. I would definitely recommend this hotel

The Riverside is a great smaller hotel looking out on the river in Prague. It is in a great old building with a lot of character. All of the rooms are different, some with a small balcony, some looking out on the river. The staff was very friendly and helpful and trying very hard to be a 5 star hotel. The rooms are very comfortable and tastefully done, with great bathrooms. The hotel has a very nice lobby bar that seats maybe 20 people. The included breakfast was excellent and probably the best scrambled eggs I have ever had. My only complaint is the location. The hotel is in a nice part of town and has some great views of the river, however, it is a cab ride or bus ride to the commercial and historic heart of the city. I like having bars, restaurants, and shopping very near by. The nearest places to eat and shop are over the bridge, which can be a long walk on a cold day. If you don't care about having food and shopping nearby this is a great place and well worth considering. If you like being closer to the historic center or food and shopping you may want to consider other hotels.

  • Liked — Great atmosphere and staff. Great breakfast.
  • Disliked — Felt isolated from historic and commercial core.

We had a great time at this place!!
The stuff was really nice and helpful. Even if they did not have our reservation when we arrived, we were allocated in a very nice room. It was not luxurious but cozy and with nice view to the river!
The breakfast was nice but not rich for a SLH and the dinner that we had in our room was tasty and not very expensive.
The place is not in the middle of the noizy city, but still just 10 min walk to the old city..
We recommend this hotel to as many as possible who wants to have a nice short stay at Prague.
We will definetely go back to Riverside Hotel!
