“Roman Bily Tour Guide”
Reviewed 26 November 2013

I booked a private tour of the Jewish Quarter after reading the great reviews about Roman Bily. Not only were we impressed, but we went ahead and booked another tour the next day with Roman of the underground city in Prague.
Roman is energetic and passionate about his country and he is a historian as well. You won't regret a tour with Roman. Normally, I am not much of a tour guide person- but am so thankful that I booked both of these Prague tours. Would definitely highly recommend him for anyone interested in getting to know Prague on a more intimate level.

“History all around you”
Reviewed 26 November 2013

The Jewish Quarter (Josefov) is a place that deserves a visit accompanied by a guide. There are many walking tours that offer tours that visit the neighborhood. The many synagogues and old buildings have their attraction by themselves but it's the historical facts that make them more worthy to be visited. From the time the first Jews moved to there, what happened during 19th century and during WWII is the background that enhances the charm of the place.

“If you like history”
Reviewed 24 November 2013

At first, I just wanted to see the Jewish Cemetery, but when I was about to buy the ticket the lady told me it was a full pass for every part of the museum, i already were there, so i agreed to buy the whole pass.

It was a great visit, maybe you can se some part one day and the other part the next day because is a loot to see and it is better if you have time to appreciate it. I loved being there, is a place really special and worth visiting.

“Sad Monument”
Reviewed 22 November 2013

More than one hundred thousand jews lived in Prague on the eve of WWII. Two thousand live now today. What a sad Monument of so successful and talented a community that contributed so much over almost 1000 years to what Prague has become. The whole jewish quarter is a silent testimony of the capabilities and talents of this people dehumanised and decimated by the civilized german nation.

“Small and crowded”
Reviewed 16 November 2013

It was hot in July, and the crowds at the Jewish museum were single-mindedly moving through. The wall of names was a place to stop and contemplate, but the gravestones outside under the trees were jumbled and stacked, making everything seem more surreal. The area around the museum consisted of small shops and booths selling all manner of souvenirs. To my surprise, there was an extra charge to take photographs, which I thought was mildly disgusting. All in all, if you are determined to see this, go early or when the crowds dissipate.

Dear stillhall,
Thank you for your comments.
We are very happy that JMP is consistently the most visited museum in the Czech Republic, annually visited by 550.000 to 600.000 visitors. During the high season, especially during certain hours, such an interest can make your visit less pleasant, as you say.
The ticket is valid for seven day so we also highly recommend to come in the earlier morning possibly more in the afternoon to fully enjoy your visit.
Regarding offered souvenirs around JMP, the museum is responsible only for those stalls in front of the Pinkas Synagogue. We believe that those souvenirs are stylish. JMP has nothing in common with the assortment of other stalls in the former Prague's Jewish Town and we agree with you that its quality is rather low.
The sites of the JMP are truly worldwide unique that is why we consider the fee for taking pictures legitimate. Regarding our policy on following the rules of picture taking, we rely on the common decency of our visitors rather than strictly insisting on paying the fee.
Thank you for your understanding and we will look forward your next visit of the Jewish Museum in Prague!
