Owner description: Prague Zoological Garden is situated near the center of the Czech capital, in a unique rugged landscape on the bank of the Vltava River. It opened in 1931 and during its existence of more than 80 years it has risen to become one of the most prestigious zoos in the world. Today, it is the second most visited tourist destination in the Czech Republic, just after Prague Castle. 4,600 animals and 680 species live in Prague Zoo. You can explore 12 pavilions and 150 exhibits over 58 hectares. The kids will love the Bororo Reserve, chairlift, mini-train, observation tower, paddling pool and Children’s Zoo. The pride of the zoo is its Elephant Valley, home to a sizeable herd of Asian elephants. The Giant Salamander House, where you can see the largest amphibians in the world – the critically endangered Chinese Giant Salamanders – is extraordinary as well; and the African House with an adjacent vast meadow inhabited by herds of antelopes and giraffes is worth your attention, too. However, Prague Zoo also has other interesting places: for instance, the Pavilion of Gorillas with the only breeding family of gorillas in the Czech Republic; Chambal, presenting one of the most endangered species of crocodiles in the world – gharials; or the Indonesian Jungle Pavilion, a giant greenhouse presenting a sample of the South Asian rainforest and its inhabitants.

“great for kids. they have a baby hippo”
Reviewed 6 May 2012

huge zoo. we spent like 4 hours there, but could easily devote the whole day to this zoo. there are plenty of playgrounds for kids here. giraffes, hippos, crocodiles, galapagos turtles... animals variety is enormous!

they are expanding their territory now. ducks are flying and walking freely, cheetahs were coming very close to us, and the glass was the only border between people and these really nice animals. you will find some very stunning views of the old town of Prague from the wooden tower in the zoo. the adult ticket costs 200 CZK. 0.4 of the kozel pilsen in a cafe-spot will cost you 89 CZK.

“A great way to spend a day in Prague with kids!”
Reviewed 3 May 2012

Easy to access with a bus from central Prague, we've spent a wonderful and interesting day both for me and for a 5 year old.
Getting away from the city and enjoying the quiet spacious Zoo is a great way to learn about the animals.
Close to the exit there also attractions for children not to be missed...a small train, a ski elevator and a playground.

“A little something for everyone”
Reviewed 3 May 2012

This may sound ignorant, but I'm not big on churches and historical sites when it comes to cities so this was a beautiful break from all the tourist traps. Whether is big animals or small, you see them all, pay a little extra and do some feeding

Terrible to find the zoo! We skipt out of it! The sign in the metro isn't right.
