A very nice small hotel within 10 minutes by tram from the well-known Squire with St. Vaclav monument and National Museum from which you can go further to other places of interest in the Old City of Prague.

the rooms are good enough, and clean. but the breakfast is basic, nothing special.

very good hotel for traveling and sightseeing.

I stayed at this hotel with a large (37) group of college students I was taking on a trip to Central Europe. The hotel is an excellent choice for such a group for several reasons. First, it is only three tram stops from Wenceslaus Square and so very convenient to the city center. Second, there are several nice neighborhood restaurants within half a block where the staff speaks either plenty or at least enough English (and Italian) to smooth over any menu issues (and they are used to and tolerant of tourists). Third, there is an Internet cafe across the street--something VERY important to my students. Finally, the staff of the hotel was very friendly and helpful. The breakfast buffet was great--none of my students complained about the food at all, which is a real achievement by the hotel. The rooms were a bit small, so if it's big rooms you want, then try somewhere else. But they were clean and well-maintained. Only one of the students reported any problem--a hot water failure--and it was resolved the same day. I recommend this hotel.

Just had one overnighter at this 2/3* Hotel Ariston Jan 28th 2007.
Booked thro ---.com weren't expecting much as really reasonable for a treble and a double rooms (less than £80 including breakfasts). Kind of thought it would be more like hostel accommodation but actually it was really very nice and had every amentity you could wish for - spotlessly clean, convenient for sightseeing (x3tram stops from Wenceslas Sq) and a warm and friendly atmosphere.
We were on the top floor (good lift) which meant that the street level tram noise was not an issue for us but if you were lower down it might be worth taking a set of earplugs.
Even tho it was lateish on a Sunday night we went across the road 20 metres up the slope for a tasty meal and some drinks in a really great bar with an easy going sociable atmosphere.
Would definatly use this place again.

My friend and I(both 18) are just back from a 2 night break at this hotel. The hotel is clean, tidy, staff are friendly and beds are comfortable. The hotel is located about a five-ten minute walk from the main attractions of the old town squaer and wenceslaus square, there are trams that leave from just outside the hotel but we found the walk easy so didnt use them. The hotel is very quiet and it is mainly older couples that we found to be staying. The hotel ask that there is silence between 10pm and 7am which everybody seemed to recognise although we never heard any of the other guests. I would recommend that you use the supermarkets just down from the hotel as they are cheaper than the ones in the centre, also do not use the bottle of water that the hotel leaves in your room as the charge lots more than the supermarkets about. The chinese restaurant just over the road and down a bit serves very good food and is also very cheap. Hope you have as great a time as we had, it was amazing!!

We stayed at the Ariston ( original hotel, not the annexe over the road ) in mid-August 2006. We were with two other middle aged couples.

Unfortunately, when we arrived for our mid-week break there was no water. (ie no washing, no flushing) This was apparently the second consecutive day this had happened and seemed to be connected to the large amount of construction / renovation work currently underway in the city.

Our rooms were a bit gloomy, but well away from tram noise, which other guest comments have mentioned. We were more conscious of noise from neighbouring residents, but only on one night.

Apart from that we were content with everything. Friendly, helpful staff, clean rooms, well looked after in a domestic sense. Breakfast adequate. Convenient for tram into city centre. However - beware of the local tax charge for hotel accommodation. We were stung for an extra 22% above the price I was quoted on-line with the booking agency when I made the reservations.

Now comes the health warning. Unlike a previous guest's comment we couldn't get a 3-day tram pass from the hotel reception. We purchased these from the Tourist Information Centre beside the Astronomical Clock. Unfortunately, we were unaware that they had to be validated on first use, information which wasn't provided at point of sale, although on subsequent examination it was on the ticket. ( even if as a group of 60 year olds we had been able to read the small print )

You can guess what's coming next. The shame of it! A group of God fearing presbyterian Scots, nicked for riding a tram with unvalidated tickets. We were confronted by a surly (smelly) unsympathetic ticket inspector with selective understanding of English. He wasn't interested in our pleas of ignorance and insisted that since we had been in the city for two days already (from our hotel documents which we niavely showed him) we were attempting to travel illegally. We protested politely. Then the Police arrived as back-up ! Discretion being the better part of valour we stumped up 500 krowns each. At least we managed to hold onto our tickets, which had cost 220 Krowns each, so we continued on our way, chastened, furious and embarrassed.

So beware - it ain't only pickpockets you need to look out for on the trams !

Ian, DUNDEE
