First of all the overall feel this place resonates would lead me to recommend the Hotel. However, the devil is in the detail and that detail was rather disappointing at large.
With my friends in one room and myself and family in another (including infant) we all found the rooms to be noisy, whether that’s by the breakfast crowd in the morning. Breakfast is served on the same level as the “executive rooms” we booked. Or nearby construction from outside. We were not hindered by the trams.
The worse incident of our 9 night stay was the extremely rude neighboring guests. Two French women who on Friday and Saturday night, didn’t bother to actually go out in a nearby bar or club, but instead decided to get drunk both evenings in their room, sing and dance, till 3am. Being a weekend evening, we were quiet tolerant to 12m but after that, infant or not, we were as reasonable as anyone would be. The Hotel reception did not do a thing, such as talking to the guests which I thought is a reasonable thing to do. On the second evening of their partying at 12am, reception said they could move us rather than tackle the issue, which we declined as we were already in the executive rooms (best rooms) and we had unpacked, had an infant and it was 12am in the morning. Why not ask our neighbors to keep the noise down?
Anyway, moving on both rooms tended to be stinking hot and we could only open the windows to alleviate the humidity. There is no hair shampoo – just Dove Body wash.
Last negative is that it is pretty far out of town and slightly uphill. It’s not just across the water but some considerable distance. There are two tram lines (8 and 26) which go past the hotel and directly to the city. 50m away down the hill from the hotel is a stop which is between the Metro (Vitavska) and the hotel is extremely well serviced, we used this a lot.
We all thought the breakfast which was included, was terrible included sugar heavy juice, too sweet to drink. Eatable, but with Prague so affordable – could have easily skipped and eaten out.
Now saying all this, I am still going to recommend this Hotel! Am I crazy, no, just a realist who was extremely happy with the overall experience. The executive rooms and bathroom were large, and comfy. Everything else more than satisfactory including the friendliness of the day staff. Staff spoke clear Czech, English and Russian. Their directions to anywhere was “hopeless” and you were better off researching tram stops yourself. The Wifi was fine in the lobby/bar area and we could have excellent Skype chats back home.
Once we got use to the trams, travelling to and from the City was fine and even with a pram (stroller or push chair). The Czech locals were really nice helping us with the pram and somehow always made room in a packed tram.
Relative to other Hotels in Prague, the Belvedere was extremely affordable and they even let us pay after our stay. TV was adequate
Though I detailed my complaints, if you take away the rudeness of some other guests – and give the hotel the benefit of the doubt, it was an excellent stay.
Funny story : There is a true local smoke filled bar across the road. They don’t serve anything but Pils beer, no wine or spirits. I had a good laugh with the locals when I sat down at their table and tried to get anything but Pils. Yeah the beer is cheaper than bottled water – not kidding!
