The Charles Hotel
Ranked #279 of 647 Hotels in Prague
Reviewed 6 January 2014

We stayed here for 3 nights just before Christmas, and enjoyed our rain free time in Prague very much.

Shortly after I booked our room, I e-mailed the hotel requesting a room on a higher floor, and enquiring about transport from the airport. I received a very friendly reply within minutes, confirming the room request would be met, and also informing us that they would arrange a pickup, and also one for the return journey. All in all a very positive first impression.

The hotel is very deceptive, especially the bedroom. It appeared initially to be old and a bit worn, but closer inspection revealed what was actually traditional décor, probably carried out within the last year or so. The bathroom was very modern, with a powerful shower, although with limited shelf space for odds and ends. I was fascinated by the wooden ceiling, complete with stencils, and the bed was deliciously comfortable.

Breakfast was simple, but perfectly adequate, and we didn't spend a lot of time in our room, with all the wonderful sights outside our door.

There's really nothing to add to previous comments about the hotel's great location, and the pubs and restaurants we visited in the surrounding area were, without exception, clean and inviting.

The city itself is magical at that time of year, with Christmas markets adding to the ambience. Our one disappointment was Wenceslas Square, which failed to meet our expectations. Otherwise, we had a completely trouble free and extremely enjoyable break, even if it was really cold. We just wrapped up well and savoured the sights.

The Charles is not a Hilton, Sheraton or Hyatt type hotel, but rather a small cosy friendly place to spend a few days. We liked it a lot!

This hotel is really well located literally 2 minutes from the Charles Bridge, with the castle just up the hill behind it. It's a real period piece and very much in keeping with this truly enchanting city.

Service was excellent - the staff quickly remedied a booking mix-up and our room was beautiful with high ceilings, and a modern shower with tons of hot water. Only problem was it was impossible to turn off the massive radiator or counteract the blast with air-conditioning - which meant opening the windows, not that attractive an option in December!

Very clean with some toiletries although milk was not replaced. Fridge in room useful for keeping water cool.

Some people have complained about the breakfast, which was in truth a complete feast (and we rather cheekily also made our packed lunches from it). Not gourmet, and the location is a bit claustrophobic, but there are plenty of options and it appeared to be replenished throughout.

The area is great for restaurants and bars, and reception staff were more than happy to help out with table reservations for more popular restaurants.

Close to public transport too - less than ten minutes walk to the Mala Strana metro station, which is a couple of stops from Dejvicka, which links up directly and regularly to the 119 airport bus - a 90 minute ticket for 32 CZK will save you a LOT on a transfer!

Recommended. I want to go back to Prague, and I'd definitely stay here again.

I booked this hotel for my partner and I to take a romantic trip away. The staff were lovely, the hotel is beautiful and I was very pleased with the service. The lesser quarter is a beautiful part of Prague to stay in and you are able to walk everywhere. The only problem I had was getting out of the bed as it was so comfortable!

I'll give you our Pros & Cons

Pros
1) Superb position, you virtually walk out the front door onto The Charles Bridge and easily walk to most of the attractions
2) Reception staff very friendly and helpful
3) Tea and coffee freely available through the day
4) Free wi-fi

Cons
1) Because it is so centrally placed there's lots of noise through the night; we were once woken at 3.00am by some revellers
2) The breakfast was one of the poorest we have received in recent hotel visits. Not much choice or quality and kept running out of things
3) Although they refer to a bar, there actually isn't' one and the 'Lounge' can hold about 5 or 6 people
4) Very small bathroom with nowhere to put anything. Just some shelves would have helped

Bit of a curates egg really. Did we enjoy our stay - definitely. Could it have been better- certainly

Room Tip: I dont know if there are any rooms not overlooking the main street, but would be preferable if avail...

This hotel was a stones throw from the Charles Bridge and within walking distance of all
the sights Prague has to offer. The hotel can be reached by public transportation from the airport.
We found everybody involved in running the hotel to be friendly and very helpful, nothing was to much trouble. Excursions can be booked at reception without any problems, a special mention to Alex who made our visit most welcome. Our room was spacious clean and had a beautiful painted ceiling. Bathroom was modern and well stocked.
Breakfast time there was plenty of choice to eat and drink hot and cold.
All in all this was a most enjoyable stay at this hotel.

Room Tip: All rooms were of an excellent standard

We stayed in this hotel and it yas a bit dissapointing. The room with shower was big enough, but we had no shower gel (but bath foam??), no slippers or bathcoat. When I asked it at the reception, they told me I could buy it somewhere behind the corner.
The location is perfect, receptionist friendly. Breakfast was very very poor

You could barely beat the location of this hotel - 2 minutes walk from Charles Bridge which in turn leads to the Old Square. Friendly and helpful staff, good assortment of food available for breakfast and large bedrooms. The decor is artistic and ingenious with hand painted exposed ceiling beams in our bedroom and an amazing painted scene in my brothers room. On recommendation by receptionist, we ate around the corner (by trams) at the Malostranka Deseda, Excellent value for money with traditional Czech food from the extensive menu - highly recommended.
