The hotel I originally wanted was booked, so a representative from AMOMA.com called to ask if I'd rather be put at the Charles Hotel. I reluctantly said, "Sure," so I had no idea what to expect when I got there. But I was pleasantly surprised!

Our room was on the third/fourth floor. It was clean and definitely had a Bohemian charm about it, from the wallpaper to the wood beam ceilings. Sure, there were a couple of cracks in the walls/floors, but nothing that caused concern. The bathroom was very modern, so I'm sure it was recently remodeled. The shower was great, with consistent hot water and beautiful features.

The service was very nice and helpful, from check-in to check-out. I was glad that breakfast was included, as that helped keep our costs down. It was buffet-style with a decent amount of options. I have a lot of food allergies/sensitivities, so I couldn't eat the fresh fruit or yogurt, but there was whole wheat bread available for toast, cold cuts and cheese, and pastries, so I was fine. The coffee machine is key!

And the location was phenomenal! The Charles Bridge is all of a two-minute walk away, so the whole city was at our feet really, really easily. We only used transportation to get to/from the airport/train station, and after exploring the Castle because we were exhausted of all that walking! The bus stop is only a block away.

Overall, we had a great stay at the Charles Hotel. Like some other reviewers said, it's definitely not a 4-star-looking hotel, but it was charming, so we enjoyed. I'd recommend to anyone coming to Prague for sightseeing, not someone who wants to stay cooped up in the room.

Room Tip: Ask for a higher-level floor; we didn't hear any noise on the 3rd/4th.

A group of friends and I went for a short break and stayed at the Charles. Absolutely brilliant location. It's convenient for all that you want to see on a short break. The hotel itself is lovely with wonderful high ceilings and lots of historic detail. There was a minor issue with our rooms but that was sorted out quickly and breakfast is tucked away in a airless basement. We also had problems with our shower however none of this distracted from the charm of the hotel. The staff were very helpful whenever we had a question or issue to resolve. We would stay here again.

I booked my room on Booking.com and asked for a quiet room but didn't get one. That could be because Booking.com never relayed that information but it was the ONLY drawback to our entire stay. The room was huge, extremely clean and the staff were always smiling and very nice. The decor was unique and the breakfast included with the booking was a smaller version of a typical hotel free breakfast. The dining room is small and everyone staying in the hotel congregates into the room kind of at the same time. The gentleman who cleaned our table and restocked the buffet line was really nice and did a great job.

As other people stated, the room did get a little noisy because of the bar downstairs. The owners of the bar don't seem to care their customers are making a lot of street noise and I think it has more to do with the casual attitude of the city more than anything. The room was cold with air conditioning on one side but the bedroom did get hot. A simple solution would be a ceiling fan right above the bed. It would drown out the street noise and help circulate the air. The location was great (1 block from the tram) and a three minute walk to the Charles Bridge. The bed was extremely comfortable and it was really hard to get out of it. 100% recommend this hotel.

Room Tip: I can only say my room was a bit noisy but I live in downtown Barcelona so I am used to it.

we stayed there 4 nights between 25-29 of May. The following points came as a surprise to us:
1. Elevator - in bad condition. stops at wrong floors. jerks when arrives to destination. Dirty.
2. Breakfast room - Poor selection of food. not friendly personnel. Poor level of cleanliness.
3. Room - OK. But room service when cleaning - very poor. Old cups, left on table / Noise level - un bearable. we were in room 201 on the second floor, and almost all night there was noise from nearby bars and from traffic. Especially from 4-5 in the morning when cleaning trucks arrive to the street. The engine is being heared for almost an hour since they stop right near hotel entrance.
4. Shower - with ot propert door. it splashes the whole room. There is no way to take there as shower without getting out into a puddle.

Mostly concerning is the fact that the above points are knowen to hotel management from previous reviews and nothing was done so far..

Room Tip: Must read reviews prior to choosing a hotel.

Dear Mr. Solomon T,
thank you for your review.
We are sorry that you did not like our hotel and maybe neither our historical town neighborhood (you rated low the Charles Bridge and St. Vitus Cathedral too).
Our beautiful city and romantic hotel have rather historic character, which brings great things and also some bad things (narrow streets with a lot of people, protected buildings,...).

Elevator in our old building is a big compromise and we are glad to be allowed to build it for our guests.
We had no similar reports regarding breakfast and will appreciate more details by email.

I will investigate the room service - it seems that measures should be taken (we have already done some since you left our hotel).

Please accept our apology for experienced inconvenience. We will do our best to investigate your complaints as soon as possible and accept effective solutions.

Regards from Prague,
Zuzana Saskova

Dear Ellen,
thank you very much for your important feedback.
I am very sorry to read that our cleaning didn´t made their work properly - please accept our big apology! It really doesn´t happen in our hotel...and I will make sure it will not happen any more.
Could you please send us dates of your stay by email? It will help me to find out who was responsible for cleaning of your room. Thank you for your time and help.

Our hotel is regarded to be one of more quiet hotels in the very center, but we can not guarantee quiet on the street, which might be occasionally too loud.

I hope to be able to offer you much better experience for your future stay in our beautiful Prague!

This is a small 26 room hotel right near the Charles Bridge. The rooms are all different but have superb bathrooms and excellent bed linen in common. We had one room with an interesting painted ceiling and one with a wooden plank ceiling. The hotel has a very small lift so it was not a problem being on the third floor. As with all central hotels there is some street noise at night, more noticeable in some rooms than others. The room had kettle, cups etc and coffee and tea and this was also always avail in reception area. Breakfast was good, not memorable, but fresh fruit, somehthing cooked each day and selection of pastries. dining area a bit dark. Overall would certainly return here. staff helpful and friendly.

Room Tip: 308 at back at very quiet
