“Terrific hotel in great, quiet location”
4 of 5 bubbles Reviewed 20 September 2006

Very much enjoyed our stay. The hotel was an oasis in the middle of a busy, noisy city. Despite being on a quiet street, you're only a block or two from main thoroughfares and city sights. There's a terrific restaurant/bar at the end of the block. (Chlupatyno Ducha) Very cheap beer and reasonably-priced food such as pizzas and soups. My wife and I also followed the Cloister Inn recommendation of Restaurant Stoleti, which is also just down the block. While upscale by Prague standards, the prices were very reasonable and the food and service were excellent.

Hotel felt very safe and all staff was pleasant and attentive. I had the hotel arrange for airport pickup, which was inexpensive and on-time. A 5am departure back to the airport similarly presented no problems.

Stayed 7-11th Sept. Second time staying here. We were reassured reading the posts here again that by and large people remain pleased with the hotel and so do we
We went to go to our room and were given directions to get out of lift on floor two, follow the red line in the carpet and take lift to 5th floor. Having read some comments on her about this part of the building we were a bit concerned about this. As you follow the line you have to go down a small set of stairs and along a long corridor, into a very small lift to floor the fourth floor and up a set of stairs to the fifth. This was troublesome with one very heavy suitcase. Note to self: next time bring two small suit cases! There was no view from the room as we looked out into a small enclosed space that held the lift. This wasn't a problem for us and this proved to be a quieter part of hotel and to be fair they try not to allocate these rooms to older guests. I recommend hotel to all my friends and family. Only fault: Hotel reception doesn't give a very warm welcome (Czech culture?) ie "Paula" and when checking out took key and grunted. (However very good at everything else)

  • Liked — location and cleanliness
  • Disliked — poor welcome and departure manners
  • Tips/Secrets — Use 2 smaller suitcases instead of one large

We were looking for a centrally located, well priced, clean, contemporary property in the heart of Prague and found it in the Cloiser Inn. We especially enjoyed the breakfast buffet and friendly hotel staff. We look forward to returning to the Cloister Inn! Bonnie/Rhode Island

My wife and I have just had our 25yr anniversary trip to Prague, and stayed at The Cloister Inn Hotel We have no real complaints and really enjoyed our stay in Prague and the hotel.

The staff were very friendly and helpful, and spoke a lot better English than I do Czech.

We had an air-conditioned room on the 2nd floor that overlooked Konvikska Street, but rarely turned the air-conditioning on. The bed was comfortable enough, but after traipsing around town and up to the castle in the heat of the 17th-21st July I could have slept on a sheet of MDF!!

The rooms were kept spotlessly clean, and the shower and towels were much in demand when getting back from town.

The one small criticism I have is that the small fridge in the room was not kept stocked, and actually had very little in it in the way of spirits and liqeurs to start with (One miniature bottle of Jim Beam and one of Bailey's), and the Baileys was not replaced the following day after being consumed the previous evening. had to stick with real Bud, shame that!!!

But there again, I should really being trying to find something to complain about , so Mr Vidimja (sorry if that is wrong) contacts me to offer me free accomodation!!!

Breakfast was awesome, as much as you could eat, to set you up for the days adventure, and all fresh every day. The only people I saw sat in the corridor were people who were unwilling to sit at a table next to one already occupied, because the main dining room was never full when we were there. And we eat at various times.

A recommended by other people, The Stoleti Restaurant just down the road is worth a visit, 2 drinks each, 2 maincourses and 2 sweets, under 600 crowns. Also found one called Restaurant Konvikt in Bartolomejska Street, in street behind the Cloisters, that was even better value, real Czech cooking and customers.

Location of the hotel is brilliant, away from the bright lights and noisy trams (we spoke to one couple from New Zealand who had a non air-conditioned room, so had to leave windows open, only trouble was the trams start very early). There was no need to use public transport, but we did jump on a tram one day just for the experience.

We made our own way to and from the airport, saving over a 1000 crowns, using bus 119 to the end of it's journey at Dejvicka metro station, then underground to Narodni, much more exiting than boring taxi. Public transport was spotless, bus, metro and trams.

Would I visit Prague again, without a doubt, would I stay at the Cloister Inn again, YES, YES, YES. 4nights/£360 including mini-bar and laundry, I am not going to start complaning at them prices.

I'm surprised to have read several negative reviews! While I don't doubt that the travellers did have the probelms they specified, please keep in mind that most people who post reviews are people who have had negative experiences. So here I am, Cloister Inn--I got your back!

First of all, the location is fabulous, but at the same time, it is SO QUIET! We loved that. I travelled with my dad in one room and me and my best girlfriend in the room next door. When we got there, it was too early to check in, but the staff kindly held our luggage in a luggage room for our convenience.

Next, it is SO CLEAN! They offer a free tea bar in the lobby all the time, as well as free internet. While we were emailing home about our adventures, we'd have a cup of tea. It became a daily game to see how long it would take the staff to clean up our tea cups, saucers and spoons when we finished. I think the longest it took was like 40 seconds! My granny would have been proud!

Next, I thought it was charming. We had to go all around Robin Hood's barn so to speak to get to our rooms, but I thought it was cool how the hotel had so many nooks & crannies. When we went into my dad's room, it was night and there was an eerie shadow of a giant hand on the wall. We opened the curtains and found out that he got the room that had a giant saint statue glued to the wall out on the street side. We thought that was very funny since he is man of the cloth!

Breakfast: if you like Czechish food, it rocked! All kinds of stuff! Not only that, the breakfast room is really nice AND they were playing ABBA Gold on the speaker system!!!

Lastly, I like how the management responds to the reviews. It shows they really care. It's the only hotel i've seen on here who do. You go, Cloister!!!

Our family of 7 stayed here in 3 rooms for one night at the end of our bicycle trip from Prague to Budapest. We wanted lodging close to the Old Town Center, the St. Charles Bridge, the Jewish Quarter, etc. at a reasonable price. The Cloister Inn fit that bill. It was a short walk through interesting side streets to the main plaza, where we watched the Czech Republic play USA in World Cup Soccer on several big screens amid lots of partying. But once we left the plaza, it was a very quiet and peaceful walk back to The Cloister Inn. We had a 7 a.m. flight out of Prague, and the staff had a 'to go" sack breakfast for each of us as we checked out early that morning. The hotel staff also arranged for our pick-up at the train station when we arrived in the afternoon, and our transport to the airport early the next morning. They really made our brief stay easy and pleasant. We would stay here again!

Fortunately, we didn't have any of the problems mentioned in earlier reviews. We found our room to be bright, nicely decorated and very clean. We were in the old section but we did have A/C. That made a huge difference as it was very hot outside. The hotel doesn't look very exciting from the outside, but inside the lobby is welcoming and modern and the free internet is fantastic! The staff was attentive and spoke very good English. The location is great because it's an easy walk to Old Town Square and Charles Bridge but it's on a quiet street. If you are looking for a small, cozy feeling place then this isn't for you. But if you are fine with a less personal, typical hotel feel then you'll be happy here.

One word of caution about Prague- we loved the city but in early July it was absolutely packed with tourists. Sometimes we felt like we were in an amusement park. We still enjoyed our visit and we're glad we went, but I can see why visiting at a different time of the year might be better.
