“Great Hotel - better than expected”
Reviewed 26 October 2008

My husband and I were picked up at the airport by the hotel driver, as this was our first time in Prague and arriving late evening we were unsure about public transport. The receptionist was helpful and offered us free complimentary drinks from the bar, as this was a special birthday/anniversary gift. Our room on the 3rd floor was very spacious, extremely pleasant and very clean. There was plenty storage, mini bar, tea and coffee making facilities. The traffic noise was minimal and the location was ideal, just out the centre, within walking distance. The breakfast room was small with plenty to eat, buffet style hot and cold. The restaurant in the basement, also small, but the meals were lovely, especially the goulash and dumplings and a lot cheaper than town prices. The Tram is 2 minutes from the hotel, as is the shopping centre with a massive Tesco's funnily enough. Returning back to the airport was very easy to do, got on the Tram No20, followed by the Airport Express Bus, No 119, only costing 26Kc each for the whole journey. Tickets available from the Hotel Reception. Would highly recommend this hotel and would definately stay again.

We just returned from a four night stay at the Hotel Julian and could not have been more pleased. The room was spacious, the bathroom huge and well appointed and the location was excellent. Most of all, the staff were professional and helpful in so many ways. We used the very convenient and easy to use tram system for most of our travel around town, combined with the underground subway system. The front desk sold transport tickets, which added to the convenience of our stay. The room noise was minimal, as the hotel is located on a side street and windows are double glazed. We found the breakfast to be plentiful and appreciated the healthy options of fresh fruit and a variety of yogurt. We also appreciated the well appointed sitting area, free access to internet and the hotel pub. We definitely would recomend this hotel for a stay in Prague.

We stayed here for 4 nights in early October, and have few complaints. The room was very sufficient with everything we needed, plus the bathroom was lovely with an excellent shower. The hotel is a 15 minute walk (or quick tram ride) to the old town square which could get tiresome if you wish to return to your room during the day. But it does give you a chance to stay in a pleasant and peaceful area, away from the crowds.

Our only complaint is with the breakfast, which would have been very nice if there was in fact any left! Each morning we ventured down an hour before breakfast closed and each time we found no cooked food of any sort, even the toast and fruit salad had already gone. And when requesting more food to be cooked the staff advised this was not possible.

So overall a very clean and comfortable stay at the Julian with all the necessary amenities, but we suggest rising early for breakfast to avoid dissapointment.

I just experienced Hotel Julian for one week. It was like my home away from home. For guests who like to get a real slice of local life this is the perfect place (trams, commuters, everyday shopping, the metro rush hour, etc.). However, if you only have limited time, you would be better served to stay closer to town. If you are the type who likes to be able to return to your room several times a day (to drop stuff off, freshen up a bit, change for the opera, etc.) you will find that it is a bit out of the way. Again, if you want to get a good take on everyday life, and you are an experienced traveler with extra time, this place is a real gem. In addition, I couldn't wait to get up for the breakfast buffet! (coffee with condensed milk, delicious toast and jam, homemade scrambled eggs and fried eggs, etc.). Also, how great was it to be able to use the computer near the front desk to check my email every night (no charge)! The lobby area had couches and chairs and was a great place to wait for a ride or just to hang out. If you check in before your room is ready, there is a shower downstairs at the health spa that you are allowed to use (a Godsend after a long flight!) and gigantic lockers to stow your luggage while you go out for the day. I recommend taking a city tour for a few hours to get oriented and by the time you come back, you will already have the lay of the land ........

We have just returned from a 3 night stay at this hotel and thoroughly enjoyed it. It was conveniently positioned to get easy access to most places either by walking or tram (stop just round the corner), yet in a quiet side street so very peaceful.

The reception, lounge and breakfast room are traditionally furnished and they seemed to have kept the character of the old building very well. Our room was quite small , but had everything in it that we needed - plenty of storage space, clean, nicely decorated and comfy beds. the bathroom was also lovely, again plenty of shelf space for toiletries etc, lovely big fluffy towels and an excellent shower, no bath but that didn't bother us.

There was also a nice rooftop terrace where you could take your breakfast up to if you fancied eating al fresco, or also a nice place to have a drink and chill out in the early evening.

Downstairs in the basement was a small bar which had been very cleverly designed. The drinks there were amongst the cheapest we found which is unusual for hotel bars. they also served some light meals down there which we didn't try but looked and smelt very good!

Also in the basement was a small sauna, fitness room, 'late departures' shower room with toilet, again none of which we used but would've done had we needed to!" There were also luggage lockers there to use free of charge on departure day.

If I were to make any criticism at all of the hotel it would be that they cant seem to make a hot cup of tea in the breakfast room!
That said there are kettles with tea and coffee in all the bedrooms and I prefer coffee anyway so that was no big deal!

We also found a nice place to eat nearby. Meduzzy is a couple of minutes walk from the hotel, its on the right hand side as you walk towards the castle. We ate there twice, the prices were reasonable, the portions very generous and freshly cooked to order. Well worth a try.

We stayed at Julian for 8 nights during our Pargue vacation . It had been highly reccomended by family members, and their reccomendation was on spot.
Great Staff, Superbly Clean and comfortable Rooms, Good Location (easy access to Taxi's -AAA Taxis are the best- Trams and a 7 minute walk to Charles Bridge)
In a nutshell, the personal service and comfort were exemplary and above expectations.
A very warm and inviting Hotel, I seriously reccomend

overall we enjoyed our stay at hotel julian the staff were lovely and the lobby area was comfortable elegant and spacious the breakfast was basic but still enjoyed usual continental breakfast. The bar in the cellar was nice and we had a drink there but did not eat there. The hotel has good transport links with the centre with the tram stop being right outside the hotel. The room was adequate although did smell of cigarette smoke which was off putting but found that a lot of prague smells of smoke as there are hundreds of smokers which we are not used to now due to smoking ban. hope this review has helped!!!!!!!!
