We stayed at Hotel Merkur for 3 nights and it was just what we wanted whilst keeping the costs of our holiday down. Located next to Florenc station and about 15 minutes walk to Old Town Square.

The rooms are a good size and clean and comfortable. However, walls are fairly thin so can hear outside and sometimes next door. Try and avoid room 105 as the staff phone is right outside the door and the ringing occurs fairly early in the morning and takes a while for anyone to answer this phone. If not, it keeps ringing. Luckily we were getting up early anyway but for those who want a lie in, then this isn't ideal.

The staff were friendly and helpful. We had travelled overnight and were shattered. We arrived in Prague a couple of hours before we were allowed to check in but they were helpful enough to get our room ready for us to have a couple hours sleep before sightseeing. This did us a world of good else we wouldn't have enjoyed the first day of Prague as much as we did.

Breakfast is basic. Bread, cheese, ham, cereal, yoghurt, fruit, etc.

All in all, a good stay.

Room Tip: Avoid room 105 where the staff phone is situated right outside the door. Other rooms on the first fl...

I stayed here with my wife and 6 friends for my 30th birthday in May this year.

The hotel is in a great location, it's 200 yards away from a high street yet far away enough to not hear anything. The high street takes you to the centre of Prague and the hotel is a 15 min walk to the Charles Bridge. This way you can stay away from the noise but be close enough to get there on foot.

The staff were very helpful, offering us directions and calling taxis whenever we wanted. Couldn't fault them.

The room was great, very large and clean and the bed was comfy.

I can't comment on the breakfast as we were never up early enough to eat...

What's stopping this review being 5/5 was the:

> The chambermaids were very noisy. It's 8am, they have their carts and they're making their way down the corridor to see if they can get into your room to clean it. But they are VERY loud and constantly talk/shout to each other. If you're an early bird then it won't bother you but if you want a bit longer in bed bring ear plugs. This happened every morning.

> The bathroom was great but it had no shower ! It had a shower hose but it didn't have any fixings to hold it up - this was apparent in all rooms our friends had. Having a bath every day was slightly annoying.

Overall this was a great hotel and if I ever returned to Prague I would probably stay here.

We stayed at the Hotel Merkur for 5 nights. Is in a quiet area, about 15mins walk to the Old Town area. The room was huge with a big comfortable bed. Was serviced daily. Breakfast was pretty good. Good selection of cold foods & a choice of two different hot dishes. The big let down for this hotel was it isn't air conditioned and not even a fan was provided. Our room was so hot (with no breeze whatsoever) that some nights it was very hard to sleep. If visiting Prague in the winter I would recommend the hotel... If in the summer... Find somewhere with air conditioning!!

A conveniently located hotel with very nice staff, both at the front desk as well as in the breakfast room.
With a rather plain/drab exterior facade, the interiors of the hotel have an old-world charm, particularly the long corridors with green carpets, the small elevator and CRT TVs in rooms that lend an 80s ambience. The dining area, rooms and toilets are very clean.
WiFi was complimentary and coverage was good in the room. The safe locker in the room was helpful. The lack of air-conditioning did not hurt much in mid-June, but might prove uncomfortable in hotter weather.
The hotel is a sub-5 minute walk from the Florenc Metro station, tram and bus stop. So, reaching other parts of Praha while sticking to public transport isn't a hassle.

Don't be scared of by the hotel's old fashioned interior. Yes, the curtains and furniture look like it dates from the 80's but this hotel is super clean and the rooms are comfortable. The only negative thing was that the rooms are not air conditioned.

We enjoyed our stay at the Hotel Merkur. The staff was extremely friendly and helpful. The breakfast was also great with a variety of pastries, fruit and cheeses to choose from. The breakfast is a cold and hot buffet. The location is also great - the train station is around the corner. We did not use it much as we walked from the Hotel to the Old Town of Prague (historical centre) everyday. There is a lot of nice things to see while walking from the Hotel. At the back of the Hotel there are two fairly nice Italian restaurants were we dined in the evening. There is also a McDonalds in the same street at the Hotel. For the price, this hotel is a great find!

Room Tip: Choose a room not facing the main street - As it can be a bit noise with all the traffic passing by...
