“Best hotel I've been too!”
5 of 5 bubbles Reviewed 22 June 2009

Design Hotel Sax is extremely charming. It might not be the most luxurious hotel I have ever been to, but it is definitely the hotel with most charm and character. The rooms were clean, included an aircon, had huge beautiful windows and a flat-screen TV.

We had a basic package which included:
- Wonderful breakfast with cheese, bread, and a meny from which we could order omelettes, panncakes, etc, which was included in the breakfast.
- Afternoon tea with coffee, tea, wine, beer, cakes etc.
- Laptop with free internet access in the room. This was really appreciated since we looked up museums, restaurants and other stuff each morning.

The staff was awesome and very friendly. The hotel is a few steps away from the main road in Lesser Town (Mala Strana) and just a 5-10 minute walk to the main bride that takes you over to the Old Town.

There were plenty of restaurants, cafés and shops around the hotel. The hotel was easy to find and the atmosphere was perfect.

This is one of the best hotels I have evern been to and if I ever go back to Prague (which I probably will in the near future since I really loved the city), I will most definitely stay at Design Hotel Sax again.

Myself and my wife stayed here for a long weekend away, we found the style and the look of the hotel fantastic as other people have said but i had a few negatives about the place which i have to share.
My main one is the bar area and the bar staff, firstly its rarely open and there's no atmosphere in there at all, it feels like your in a library. We came back for the complimentary tea-time drinks and when my wife went for a second glass of wine the barman pulled a moody face, he looked like he was going to throw her out! (we would have gladly paid for a second one if it was the case) and this particular barman needs a lesson on how to smile.
They have wallpaper in the bathroom which is peeling off due to the moisture in the air.
The rest of the staff were friendly but the atmosphere is way too professional for my liking, i really liked our room and the hotel is very cool but the staffs atitude doesn't go with the look of the hotel, which is laid back and fun.
You'll love the retro feel of the place but i'd doubt i'd go back after experiencing it once as i just didn't feel that well looked after for what i had paid.
Oh and by the way whats with the two single matresses on a double bed?

This wonderful hotel is located in an exceedingly charming neighborhood not too far from Prague's delightful attractions. The staff was very friendly and thoughtful. The breakfasts were delicious and filling. And the rooms were adorably vintage. Would recommend this hotel without hesitation. And we had a night free!

I liked this place. The location's good, the staff are really welcoming and well trained, the rooms are sizeable and well decorated and furnished, the beds are comfortable, everything is clean. They don't serve dinner, but there's no shortage of restaurants nearby -- I especially recommend Cowboys (for steaks) and Gitanes (for Czech food), both of which are in easy walking distance. Breakfasts are excellent, and they serve free coffee and cakes between 4.00 p.m. and 6.00 p.m.!

But if you really want to know what the people are like, let me tell you that we left a soft toy behind -- a piglet, of immense sentimental value. They found him, parcelled him up and mailed him back, free of charge. My job is such that I spend six months a year in hotels and, let me tell you, not many places would have done that. Five star.

I stayed at Sax for the weekend with my boyfriend. The area is perfect (the taxi-driver told us it is the safest are in Prague because of the US embassay nearby) and 10 min walk from castle. Central but not too central that it's noisey.

We arrived early and were given coffee and juice complimentary in the lobby. The hotel interior is lovely, the room smaller than expected ( we booked the mid-price room but discovered it was no bigger than lower priced room). Having said that, it was cosy and the atmosphere in the hotel very relaxing.

Every service is catered for; dvds in room, laptop, and nice bath products. The coffee is very good, there is wine and juices, snacks and pasteries and all complimentary. They offer a free 1 hour private spa during your stay which was great (funky retro room with jacuzzi, sauna and tv). Be careful to book in advance and call to see if it is ready if you are out. We booked it in advance and returned to find out it wasn't ready cos the water was cold. This was disappointing after a hot day walking around ( would have taken a cold soak to be honest) and also for the fact it wasn't worth going back out at that time as we had to leave in two hours for the opera.

Breakfast at the hotel is great. There is a buffet (with top quality organic products) and an a la carte menu all free. There is a huge selection.

Overall, i'd highly recommend this hotel. Great area, fab services and very relaxing atmosphere.

If you're looking for a fine Hotel in almost the centre of Prague you are in the right place with Hotel Sax. The hotel is decorated very nice in the 70st style. In 10 minutes walk you are right in de hart of Prague. We liked the free use of the laptop, the complementary tea or drinks in the afternoon. These are the little things thats make a difference that stands out of other hotels. The staff is very nice and very willing to make your stay good. Breakfast is good and that you can choose from a menu.
I can recommend the Jazz-boat trip. Look at www.jazzboat.cz.
We have discovered Prague by foot and walked a lot, but we have seen the most.
Anyway, we had a very nice stay of 6 days and the weather was great, we had sun for al the days we were staying.

After booking online, we were quite curious if the hotel could live up to our expectations based on the website. And it did, greatly. A perfect gentleman picked us up from the airport (great car!) an drove us in 20mins to the hotel. Check-in was quick and polite, she even knew who we where before even having shown a passport! The room was great, the TV/DVD and DVD collection a great way to relax after a day's walk, and the breakfast a superb way to kickstart the day. All-in-all a great place to stay, with absolute value for money! Definately worth recommending!
